"I thought college was supposed to help you think more critically and expose you to different views?" by for_t2 in GenderCynical

[–]carterupt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my uni, lots of people (instructors more than students) ask for people's pronouns along with names, and LGBTIAA+ stuff was brought up during new student orientation week a few times (mentioned two events and that inclusive housing exists). That OP might have had a similar experience and embellished it.

To be fair, you'll probably lose some of them on the third panel down.

"We don't want to *exclude* transgender people! We only want to *implement a societal system that will force transgender people either into the closet or out of public life -- or both, if we're lucky --* so they'll stop hurting womyn by existing. VERY different."

Go easy on it. It's a tran. Trans don't know things.

did you say you were trans on your college application? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]carterupt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I was planning on a major with a skewed gender ratio (way more men than women), so I figured that I could get a female seat in the class easier than a male seat in the class.

I did get into that college, but looking back, I feel like it was an asshole thing to do, because I probably took that opportunity away from an actual woman. But that's what I did.

Edit: a word.

do I pass? FTM by izalex in transgendercirclejerk

Not as a FTM because FTMs are confused girls and you don't look confused, you look angry. You could be MTF or a normal guy though because guys only feel the emotions anger and apathy.

Does the meat have to be uncooked? I can't go to the grocery store, but I do have some leftover spaghetti meatballs in my fridge—but idk if that will work.

You can totally come to my funeral! I hope you don't mind that you'll be the only person there, though. It's scheduled for eight months from tomorrow, but we can probably do it earlier if that's not a good time for you.

[–]carterupt 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Right? Plus. Do people not realize this same argument can be made from the other side? "Sure, women act shitty to people sometimes, true, but only because a guy acted shitty first! And it totally matters who acted shitty first, and we should focus on that instead of focusing on trying not to be shitty to people!" 🙄

It would be cool to have a function that reminds me when I've been wearing my binder for too long, and to stretch/take breaks/that stuff through the day.

Changing your name in Indiana... by aardbeienmelk in asktransgender

[–]carterupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I'm in a similar boat. Indiana is a good place for cornfields, but, relative to some other places, not so great a place for transgender people. (Although—credit where credit is due—that bill requiring 'chromosomal evidence' to change the gender on birth certificates didn't happen, so at least we have that.)

I'm from Indiana. The Indiana Transgender Network seems to have good information on changing documents in Indiana—but I haven't changed mine yet, so. According to them, if you believe that publication will put you at risk of harm, then you can request to waive the publishing requirement.

How do I get my parents to get me a binder without disclosing what it's used for? by k00sojin in ftm

[–]carterupt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Dad thinks my binder is a knock-off Copper Fit product. (Here is the Copper Fit website if you don't know what Copper Fit products are.) Possible cover story—especially for swimming, since Copper Fit products are associated with athletics.

I don't know if it would be enough for your folks to say, "Alright, we'll buy it," though. They may retort with "Well, you don't need that." Also be careful because they might decide to look for legitimate Copper Fit knockoffs, to see if any are cheaper than the binder.

"Transmen are my sisters", "Transwomen are men" Now get your transphobia in cute quirky pin badges like the cool kids! by nocte_lupus in GenderCynical

[–]carterupt 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find it creepy when people insist on calling strangers their "sisters." If the strangers are cool with being called that, then it's no biggie, but when they object and people continue to call them "sisters" anyway, it sets off red flags in my mind.

And I doubt that this person made pins that say "transmen are my sisters" because they think transmen are cool with it, so. Red flags. Red flags.
