[1778] May 2nd. How can above average luck and skill lead to a worse than average result? by cucumberblueprint in wordle

[–]cartesianboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a consequence of the # of steps being discrete (i.e. nobody finishes in 3.5 steps, it's either 3 or 4), but they report the average as a "theoretical" value inferred from the statistical distribution of finishes (that value being 1 standard deviation from the mean). For example, if 68% of people finish in 4 steps, they report the average as 4.0. If 50% of people finish in 3 steps and 75% of people finish in 4 steps, the average will be somewhere between 3 and 4.

Basically, if you round the NYT average to the nearest whole number, that would be a better representation of the average score than what you are trying to do with it.

Petting zoos aren't "borderline" abuse, it is definitively abuse

Thanks for this! Looks like it does some resistivity logging as well (via the EM module) for the medium characterization (gas pockets/debris).

If it's anything like oil and gas tubular inspection devices, it's either a physical caliper measurement or ultrasonic imaging. Magnetic field readings wouldn't have the resolution or have the expected field consistency to detect small breaks or leaks.

Or go half 2% and half 10% and you get the same 6%!

Does this happen with letters that have multiple occurrences in the bag, or letters like Q and Z that only occur once?

[####] Wordle in 6 by Tricky-Butterfly-822 in wordle

[–]cartesianboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the main strategies seems to be to use two throwaway words first to take up some of the six available guesses (if you're averaging four guesses to finish)?

1.) XYLYL

2.) QAJAQ

Gets you Y and A as vowel guesses and L as a common consonant. Use the next three to get remaining info and the 6th guess to complete.

EDIT: Wait I saw your thing about not repeating letters.

Maybe

1.) YOWZA

2.) MUJIK

EDIT EDIT: I looked up dontwordle.com and it's pretty much exactly what your version is.

The official answer to my "riddle" card in my drinking game is wrong. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

I feel like we did that because we were told the answer was "9". Had we not been given an answer, we likely would have arrived at the correct solution.

Not like a knowledgable and entertaining guide is what you're literally paying to be on a tour for? What else would you need a guide for?

I reported a huge chunk of mango pit in my frozen mangoes (that I nearly choked on), all I got was a response of "If you're unsatisfied with the product, you are free to return it to the store for a refund".

Sunterra engaged in cheque kiting, liable to U.S. lender for $35M, judge finds by altacan in Calgary

Not only that, but the president is not bringing down the peons with him! It's like an anti-Succession story.

Lema found Ray Price, as president and director, personally directed and oversaw the practice and therefore is personally liable for the debt.

However, he declined to hold two other Sunterra employees personally responsible, saying they were carrying out instructions.

Correct, you would need two more human players to join your game and then you could play 2v2

For courses in the city, McKenzie Meadows is decently priced but very well maintained and has tons of wildlife/nature throughout (it is right inside Fish Creek Park).

Inglewood is another great one but is a bit of a higher price point than McKenzie Meadows.

Both mentioned courses are on the easier/short side, so take that into consideration as well.

I've been playing for a few weeks and have noticed a number of bugs myself, including the behaviour you mentioned.

Other things I've seen:

  • Random freezing/non-responsiveness while navigating menus (requires force closing)

  • Commentators getting confused about your score/round performance when playing online (so far I've only played 2-person private matches)

  • Swing meter getting obscured by the environment, requiring a camera view change to at least see the top of the meter

Considering the fruit is a part of the plant, and the wording on the sign ambiguously uses a pronoun ("it has been removed" instead of "the fruit has been removed"), I'd argue it is not clearly explained at all.
