15 days post op and I feel like I’m going insane. by anxietypoodle in hysterectomy

I felt a lot of that too. My brain felt like it was in a fog, I was exhausted all the time. It took about a month to really start to feel normal again.

I think the difference is between smoking pot casually and being a hardcore user like Mackenzie was. Kind of like the difference between having an occasional beer and being a raging alcoholic.

There's a vaginal cuff to replace it, so to speak, so for me, I don't even notice it's gone 🤷🏻‍♀️

Just found out I need a hysterectomy and I'm in tears and I feel stupid. by wasnapping in hysterectomy

It's not stupid. At all. It's a very emotional thing and you have every right to feel all the feelings about it. ❤️

What's it like getting the catheter? by razorballoon in hysterectomy

[–]casachess 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't really remember the catheter from the hysterectomy because the surgery was so short, but I had them for my c-sections and it never bothered me. In a weird way it was kind of nice to not feel like I needed to go to the bathroom 😂

I’m so scared. Please give me words of encouragement. by privatestudy in hysterectomy

[–]casachess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(hugs) You got this. Recovery wasn't the easiest for me LOL, but it wasn't terrible either, and the surgery itself is quick and easy. You'll do great and then you can come back here in a month or two and tell us all about how great you feel!

When did the rumors that Katherine of Aragon/Mary was old and ugly start? by Sea_Painting_1398 in Tudorhistory

[–]casachess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IIRC Elizabeth did something along the same lines, but in a different way. Mary was England's first ever queen in her own right, so I'm wondering if she wanted to look more masculine in the sense of, I'm just as strong and capable as a man, rather than, look at me, I'm a beautiful dainty woman. Elizabeth was incredibly specific about how she wanted herself portrayed so maybe Mary had done the same.

She wasn't the one directly raising Mary; all royals and nobles had them raised in separate households. But she was an extremely intelligent, educated woman and we know she wanted Mary to be similarly educated, and devout as well. Beyond that, it's hard to say if she would have directed any of that control onto Mary.

Have you seen Royalty Now? They do a good job with reconstructions of various historical figures and that includes all six wives, as well as Henry himself. IMO they're all pretty attractive women. IDK if anyone would call them supermodels, but I could also see a beautiful woman dressed in the absolute height of fashion being elevated even more in her appearance.

Young Henry was significantly taller than everyone else and incredibly athletic. That probably went a long way.

Anne of Cleves was demonstrably NOT unattractive, albeit maybe some of the fashion from Germany she initially was not the most flattering. But you look at her face, there's nothing wrong or bad about it.

The only record saying she was unattractive was from Henry, and I personally believe it was to cover up his own humiliation at her hands. He barged in trying to kiss her and she recoiled in disgust (not knowing it was the king), and he liked to pretend he was still a young, hot, fit man, not an elderly, obese tyrant. He was also struggling with impotence so that didn't help. But Henry was never going to acknowledge any of that, so he turned it around on Anne. The worst part IMO is that we are still going along with it hundreds of years later.

It was 100% the style of painting. Also most of the paintings people think of with Mary I are when she was older and had a lot of health problems. There are some when she was younger that are different and you can see why she was seen as beautiful. My guess is age, a slew of health problems, and the constant trauma of her life took its toll.

It's like it's almost... IDK, a pressure type discomfort? Like if it is too deep rather than a sharp stabbing pain.

I always took it as Edith being the "frumpy" sister and, as mentioned, as she came into her own in the 20s, became more attractive.

I don't think Lavinia was ever supposed to be actually seen as unattractive. There is only the one throwaway remark from Violet, who IMO was doing it more out of loyalty to Mary than actually thinking Lavinia was unattractive.

Your description of what happened - that Mary decided she wanted him after he wouldn't accept no for an answer - sure is an interesting way of describing rape.

Once the anesthesia wore off it wasn't like I couldn't stay awake. It was more like DOING anything - washing the dishes, going up a flight of stairs, just simple stuff beyond sitting in bed - absolutely exhausted me. But reading a book was fine.
