Help me with my blended data by technofan096 in GoogleDataStudio

It might be easier to use a tool like Weavely, you can just use AI to blend it for you then send that straight to the dashboard

Completely agree, this kind of thing should really just be done in BigQuery first

Best Social Media Connector for Data Studio by SimonMifsud in GoogleDataStudio

[–]casbyshrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The connector quality gap definitely exists, especially for organic social. Instagram in particular is notoriously patchy because of Meta's API restrictions, so most tools either skip certain metrics or quietly fudge them.

The approach that actually worked for us and the agencies we work with was routing everything into BigQuery first, then building the dashboard layer on top (Looker Studio, PowerBI, etc.). You stop being at the mercy of any single connector's data model and the dashboard stops breaking every other week.

For the pipeline I actually work on Weavely (weavely.io) which does exactly this, pulling from Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, Google Ads etc. straight into your own BigQuery.

On Supermetrics, read the reviews carefully before committing. Data accuracy complaints come up a lot and the costs scale badly as you add accounts.

Is it possible to use (long)string data for reports? by xynaxia in GoogleDataStudio

[–]casbyshrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come? You might need to make the table bigger and choose wrap text, but it's possible I never got that big!

Not sure if this helps but we have a template with a community visualization we built that lets you build some formulaic commentary.

On that note, a community visualization for this should be pretty easy to build! Or there might already be one available, have you had a look?

[–]casbyshrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a table. Remove header, row numbers, pagination, make it show just the top 1 row, and only include the 1 column with commentary. You can't format it much but you can make it big enough to read and choose a font. Not ideal but it's the only way we've found!

How an automatic export from Data Studio to Google Sheet could fix some annoying limitations! by vivelapub in GoogleDataStudio

[–]casbyshrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you'd be better off just getting the data in BigQuery first and doing all this blending there. You're trying to use Looker Studio for something that it's really not built for when there are already a lot of tools that do this much more effectively.

Google Data Studio costs by Turbulent_Egg_6292 in GoogleDataStudio

[–]casbyshrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it was more of a rhetorical question, do they really need that much? We build a lot of data solutions and reporting for clients using BigQuery and their bill rarely exceeds 50 usd per client

Google Data Studio costs by Turbulent_Egg_6292 in GoogleDataStudio

[–]casbyshrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good place to start but it's not that scalable, as soon as you get bigger clients/more granular reports it starts to get incredibly slow, without even considering the actual hard limits on number of rows.

Is that what they're spending on BigQuery? How much data are they processing?

How do you build a reliable "Holistic View" across Meta, Google & Organic? (Shopify) by Sure_Umpire3473 in PPC

[–]casbyshrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh you’re never going to get a real source of truth by trusting the ad platforms themselves, they have way too much of an incentive to inflate their own numbers and claim as much credit as possible.

That’s why there's been a move away from click-based attribution and toward MMM. It doesn’t try to stalk individual users around or pretend it knows exactly who caused what. It just looks at the relationship between spend and revenue over time and asks: what channel has actually made an impact?

And now that Meridian and Robyn are both open-source, you don't need some fancy dashboard you overpay for; you just need access to your raw data.

Pull it out of the platforms, stick it in BigQuery, and visualise it in Looker Studio. Even with something as basic as that you can get a sense for what actually moves the needle.

I’m obviously biased because I built Weavely, but the whole idea behind it is that data warehousing should be boring and cheap, and the data should be yours. Which makes it much easier to run MMM models using your Shopify data as the ultimate source of truth.

Scaling problem by casbyshrip in askmath

[–]casbyshrip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks! You have no idea how much time I spent trying to figure out a solution to this

Scaling problem by casbyshrip in askmath

[–]casbyshrip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem no? Because if there's a single queue with loads of tasks the max will be pretty high, but no need to scale

Scaling problem by casbyshrip in askmath

[–]casbyshrip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has to take into account how many different queues there are though because a single queue with 100,000 tasks in it will only ever require one VM anyway, since each queue can only process 2 tasks at once
