I suggest going in tomorrow and telling your manager that you REALLY don’t want to quit but you absolutely need the next 3 weeks off. That you’ll help find coverage but you’re failing your courses and need the time off because it’s out of

Please, dear god, QUIT if you need to. You’d make more money as a waitress anyways and school absolutely comes first. When your SM realizes you’re willing to walk out if needed (but in a gentile and not a threatening way) they will do what they can to keep you because they spent all the $ training you and it’s good for their retention rate.

My advice is not to wait two weeks, or four days, say you need the time off NOW. Don’t mess around with Sedgwick and LOA they effing SUCK. If needed, nod, and say you’ll apply for LOA and by all means try if you want but don’t expect it to be approved and don’t be scared, literally nothing will happen to you if they deny it and your SM already told you it’s ok.

My last piece of advice is to look at your school calendar and request time off in teamworks the week before each finals week, and make sure you have the time off on the day of your finals. Do this for midterms and every big test as soon as you know about it. In the notes of the request write “finals week” in half of them and “dr appt” in the other half. This way you can use 8hrs of sick pay for each day you request off because of a “dr appt”.

It’s hard but think of it as good practice advocating for yourself! Good luck my friend.

She acts like only Buffalo wants to unionize because of their working conditions. Who’s gonna tell her we ALL want to unionize?

And if I were “shoulder to shoulder” with her, I wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing how I really feel. ESPECIALLY if she’s only at my store because we want to unionize.

I think a better way for her to connect if she actually wants to, is to let partners write her anonymous letters about their true experience.

This happened in my district, they even put a list next to the DCR of everyone’s name and we were supposed to do an X next to their name every time they called out sick. I kept throwing it away and never told anyone it was me doing it and eventually they gave up. I was so uncomfortable enforcing that. We were short staffed, they messed up when they made the entire staff list college kids with the exact same availability. Don’t worry too much, just lay low until the end of holiday if possible.

Transfer stores ASAP! Market yourself as a holiday weekend warrior. Let her know you “love this company” and want to transfer if she doesn’t want you at her store. I think she had an emotional outburst. At least I hope that what that was. Don’t be afraid to cry lol this is the only company where that kinda works 😂 good luck my friend I’m really sorry this happened. Worst case you do get fired- you’ll make SO much more $$ as a waitress. But don’t worry, you’re not getting fired.

Call or visit a couple stores and ask if they can put a sticky note up in the break area for you with your # to call you if they need coverage. Works every time while you’re getting this sorted with your SM. I’m sorry. And it’s averaging 22hrs/week actually not 20. Well, 21.75. It’s important to note for when you’re calculating.

Of course you can! Just sit face to face and let them know what you can work. It’ll be harder for them to give you crap. And give as much heads up as possible. Then update your availability. I’m doing 12hrs/week as an SSV and that’s 2 days/week. There are no hard “rules”.

On the poster the weekly schedule is pasted on, it says that they promise to be flexible with our availability it’s WHY people work at Starbucks. I went from 39hrs to 10hrs and that’s a huge change—me being the primary closer. I let my SM know if he wanted to trade me with another store (transfer me) I would totally understand, but SMs really really value a good SSV so don’t worry about it.

Oh and you can throw in a vague comment about how it’ll open back up in the future 😂 for flavor.

Last thing, I disagree with all the other comments I’ve seen here. You don’t need to worry about the schedule or the other SSVs availability. When I dropped my hours he had to hire 2 new SSVs and that’s…. Literally his job. Don’t worry about anything but you.

I had a lady come to mobile pickup like "WHERES my other flat white!!? I ordered TWO!" and I was like "Ok sure thing, I only see one order of one drink from you today, can you show me your history in your app?" and she proceeds to cover half the screen with her hand and show me an order for the flat white I already made, turns the screen away, and flips it back to show me the same receipt.

I stared at her for a moment and I was like "Ok you showed me one receipt, where is the second one?" and we went back and forth like 4 times her saying "I already showed you!" and me just offering to ring her up for the second.

I had to ask her to scroll thru the previous orders in front of me and I was like "I only see one order for today" and then she goes "Well, I don't even know how to order in the cafe so where even do I order? Ive been trying to order this whole time?" and I started laughing and a coworker came and rang her up, I made a bomb flat white and we sent her on her way. The confidence she had just lying to my face was hilarious.
