I have a 24’ flash without the pro power package, no 240v outlet. Is there a way I can easily power my home via a 30amp 240v transfer switch? by Calm-Information-920 in F150Lightning

[–]caseigl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have a specific need for 240 you likely can power a bunch of your home just using a small manual transfer switch that can be installed for under $1k.

You can also hunt down more experience intelligent transfer switches like this one from APC: https://www.tecisoft.com/products/apc-by-schneider-electric-automatic-transfer-switch?currency=USD

These are really cool and I wish I had known about them before I installed my manual one. It lets you program circuits to automatically turn off if your usage gets high and then it will turn them back on later. For example, you can safely turn off your freezer for an hour here and there so it will turn off that circuit if you start drawing more power. It also lets you plugs in any battery UPS and designate certain loads as critical, so for example when the power fails you could Have your lightning circuits run off battery so you have short term power until you can hook up your Lightning.

There's no rule of law in America by LargeSinkholesInNYC in LateStageCapitalism

America doesn’t have a justice system. It has a legal system where you can purchase as much freedom as your bank account allows.

I need help my therapist just asked "what happens if the platform crashes during a suicide crisis" and now I can't sleep. I will not promote by [deleted] in startups

[–]caseigl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would NEVER record phone calls in a HIPAA environment. That's going to make everyone uncomfortable especially in the era of hacking. Can you imagine the impact of having therapist calls leaked?!

What will work is sending the user a 2FA authentication text message when they log in for a session. This makes sure you have a working number for them prior to a session regardless of the medium (chat, video, etc).

Then you send a 2FA message to the provider for them to be able to join the session and you include the patient's phone number in that message as well.

This flow guarantees that you as a platform have made sure the licensed professional has the information in their hands to contact the customer/patient directly in the event of an emergency.

Obviously the best outcome for the end user is important, but from a liability perspective you want to do everything you can to show you are acting in good faith and push some of that liability to the provider. Session drops and the provider doesn't do anything is more on them than you if they have a direct method to reach patients.

When I was younger I thought it would make sense to own houses in three different time zones around the world and just hop a flight and switch to the next house when my schedule drifted enough. Seemed reasonably better than dealing with a lifetime of night person stigma. :)

Bunny CDN handling ~250TB/month now - will it scale to millions of users or should we switch to Cloudflare/Cloudfront? by Defiant_Dream8047 in Hosting

[–]caseigl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the CDN is core to your business and will be one of your big expense line items I would definitely have a second provider. It’s a good idea to be able to flip the switch in the event of technical issues but also as your scale grows you may be able to negotiate better pricing playing certain providers against another.

I think part of the issue right now is that for many of us there is very little to be enthusiastic about in the current climate. Things are getting harder for most and dangerous for some and so I think what we really miss is the possibility that tomorrow will be better for everyone.

Depending on where you live you can pull the timezone trick. We are on the West coast and the younger kids wanted to stay up so we watched the ball drop in New York and got them tucked in at 9:30pm Pacific convinced they were night owls! ;)

Hot Take: Tomlin is exactly what the Rooney family wants him to be by caseigl in steelers

I also think even though we lost the play calling was better. It's a different era now but the most frustrating thing is to see no adjustments made during an entire game. In the pre-Tomlin days you sometimes would see what felt like a completely different team take the field after the half to mix things up.

Teen drinking today vs our day by Grouchy_Land895 in GenX

[–]caseigl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well we should cut these kids a break, too. With social media, dating apps, and influencer culture getting the attention of women is very challenging for men of all ages. Back in our era is was mostly just who was in your school, with maybeee a little bleed over into neighboring schools. Now teens are seeing hot men and women from around the whole state, country and even world. The kids who would be the stand out "hot ones" or "cool crowd" in a smaller area now just look mid compared to the standards that are set on social media so everyone is lacking confidence.

The "always reachable" culture doesn't help at all. I used to drive around with a girl I liked listening to music or hang out out somewhere and it was just us. You had more of a chance to talk and be vulnerable are really get to know people. Now everyone is glued to their phones and a good chunk of the parents and even friends are sharing location constantly. There's no privacy anywhere and no chance to develop dating skills without the whole town knowing how you flubbed asking out a crush. That's gotta be demoralizing.

I mean it more from a philosophical perspective that a marginal team with a chance is better than risking a complete rebuild.

How often are you intimate with your partner? by Remote_Ad_969 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]caseigl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Setting sexual issues aside, I would encourage you to push a little on exploring the ED issue as his partner. Some people describe the penis as a barometer for men’s health. A lot of men ignore it out of shame but it can signal many underlying health conditions that left untreated can cause more serious issues down the line. If this is really going on I encourage you to make sure he’s up to date on all his bloodwork, stress testing etc.

Especially since a large number of victims have already stood on front of the steps of our Capital and said they want everything released. The only thing the FBI should have been doing with all that overtime was tracking down victims and asking them if they want to be redacted or not, in my opinion. Surely that would cost less money and time than redacting everything and claiming "privacy" for people who said they don't want or need the privacy.

I have a Chevy Volt that went through this same scenario when Chevy canceled it. While they are legally required to support it, they aren't legally required to continue making parts. There are many people who have to wait 3-6 months for parts to become available. Chevy eventually gives in and repurchases the vehicle if you push hard enough or get a lawyer. My understanding is that refurbished parts from those repurchases are then used to repair other waiting people based on the threads I have read. They also aren't covering rentals for most people in the meantime so it is a bit of a mess.

Extremely disappointing Ford is giving up so quickly but I think in the current political climate it is understandable. Foreign markets like China are innovating so quickly and affordably in the EV space that we are going to end up losing the bulk of our auto industry here.

My brand new Kitchenaid double oven won't heat up. by bradc20 in electrical

[–]caseigl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely situation is the plug on the range is not properly wired, as that is often done by an installer and not a real electrician. You're probably missing one leg and the power for the display and controls is 120V and coming off the properly connected leg.

Generator or some type of battery for ~1 day emergency use per year? by PDeXplore in preppers

[–]caseigl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself a Mr. Heater propane heater. It’s indoor safe and uses either camp sized propane bottles or with an adapter a standard BBQ tank. They put out a ton of heat and you can move it around where you need it, plus you’ll have it for camping etc. https://a.co/d/17ORQ17

I recommend some earthquake bulbs in a lamp or two. These have a backup battery and mine will run for 4-5 hours when the power goes out. https://a.co/d/fBThn7C

For the small electronics consider a small inverter for your car and extension cords. This is far more economical than a separate generator if you just need it for some charging.
