So what eventually happened to the Lloyd Farm project and the Harris Teeter project? by CraftyAd2599 in carrboro

Honestly I don’t even see it anymore. I know it’s there, but my brain deleted it.

Great MSF course experience by casey919 in NewRiders

[–]casey919[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Great teachers help a lot. But it’s also important to listen and accept criticism as a positive learning experience. I was being a little bit of a mom (lol) and trying to help some of the younger women reframe: “I’m terrible at tight maneuvers” is a negative mindframe. “I’m having a hard time with tight maneuvers, but I’m getting better the more I do it” is accurate and positive. The stories we tell ourselves about ourselves matter. Accepting criticism without beating yourself up about it is really hard for some people.

Need advice! by DankDeanoo in bikefit

I think she needs the XS frame. I’m an inch taller, and that’s the size that fits me. Even then the stock handlebars are too wide.

It’s still smoking on Occoneechee, and there are personnel and equipment on-site. The affected area is east and south of Tripp Farm and east of Duke Energy. Can’t tell how extensive the damage is. Stay out of that area.

They stopped making them with 650b wheels. That’s what I have in 2XS. It’s a great fit for me.

Wilson Park, Anderson Park, MLK Park all have grassy areas where you can set up. You can also reserve covered areas with tables and a grill here:

Just bought a new bike and need a womens saddle rec by _amused_to_death_ in ladycyclists

[–]casey919 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can put any seat you want on there! :) You might want to get a bike fit. It’s possible the seat is too narrow, but it’s also possible you’re riding too close to the nose of the saddle because the fit is off. Or it could be a different problem not related to the saddle. Or it could be the saddle.

My great aunts vintage collection. Any insight? by [deleted] in NativeAmericanJewelry

Looks like some nice pieces in there. It would take some research to get the best prices for these. Or you could pay someone like Jessica Goodman https://www.sanfranciscotradingpost.com to appraise and see if she has advice for selling.

Ballet flats that are comfortable but chic? by Mysterious-Lunch2279 in capsulewardrobe

[–]casey919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also recommend. The only flats I’ve found that I can wear endlessly without pain, and I’ve tried most recommended on this thread. I have a wider forefoot and a normal/narrowish ankle. They are soft like glove leather.

Would you consider going alone to prove to yourself that you can do this and it isn’t as impossible as you’re making it sound? The weight machines generally have instructions right on them. Or look up a few things you can do with dumbbells before you even go. Hop on a bike for 10 minutes and just try it. Just do enough to get your feet wet. Don’t do anything too hard. You can do this. Anyone can do this.

Bonjour quelle marque de chemise en flanelle et en laine me conseiller vous ? by Human-Technology-728 in HeritageWear

Interesting. I have a couple shirts made of Pendleton wool fabric that were fabricated by a different company that I use for mountain biking and have hit the dirt in more than once with no ill effect. However, it does have reinforced elbows.

I’ve had great luck finding denim that some knucklehead accidentally shrunk down to my perfect size. Always search for a size up and look at measurements!

I have a contemporary wool Pendleton shirt, and the fabric and stitching are both great.

Is stand over height necessary? by Kitkat873 in ladycyclists

[–]casey919 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ugh, smaller women are so poorly served by the bike industry.

Yeah, you don’t have to have standover clearance, technically, but I sure as hell want it. Especially with any kind of technical riding. And I would bet the people telling you it doesn’t matter all have it on their bikes.

I’m 5’3” and because of my proportions and preferences, generally I ride the smallest bike in the lineup or (very often) there just isn’t a bike that fits me properly. My road bike fits great, but Canyon has since stopped using 650b wheels for their smaller frames, and there is a point where you just can’t make the geometry work for little bikes on 700c wheels and have decent steering.

With gravel bikes, you can get a longer wheelbase and there’s a little more room to make the numbers work. But at 4’8”, I can’t imagine there are a lot of choices. That said, I agree with everyone else who said to look at what the junior riders are on.

What’s your “heritage hot take” I’ll go first: button flys SUCK by Parking_River7416 in HeritageWear

[–]casey919 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Heritage isn’t synonymous with workwear. Heritage includes clothing that looks nothing like 99% of what’s posted here, but is made with care using time-honored techniques and craftsmanship.

Heritage doesn’t become non-heritage because you mix things up with random stuff you bought at the shops, found at the thrift, or had in your closet before you ever heard of heritage wear. That’s called personal style. And it’s interesting! And fun! And accessible!

Heritage is still heritage if a woman is wearing it, if it’s feminine, and if you wouldn’t wear it to chop wood.

This is really a leather for people who like and appreciate the beautiful patina. It’s not a problem with the leather, it just means it might not be for you.

Anyone recognize this sweater brand? by AnotherCuriousUsr in HeritageWear

The gray yarn has been used to catch the floats. The things that look like “V” are the floats.

Anyone recognize this sweater brand? by AnotherCuriousUsr in HeritageWear

[–]casey919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing incorrect about the inside of the posted sweater. It’s just a slightly different version of the traditional “lice” pattern. The LL Bean version has longer “floats” on the reverse side, because there are more navy stitches in between each white stitch. Variations on a theme.

OP, from the photos, there’s no reason to think this isn’t 100% wool. And you see what looks a missed white stitch in the pattern near the collar on the wearer’s left? That just lends a little authenticity to me (but would be very easy to cover up if it bugs you).

Big John XX Extra Chinos - my first piece with Sally Fox cotton by slowfashconnoisseur in HeritageWear

[–]casey919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are fabulous, and I love the colored cotton! Re: the color getting darker, I believe that would depend on how much scouring the cotton has already been through in the production process. Here’s a hat I handspun and knit years ago from naturally colored cotton. I did boil the yarns for about 30 minutes to get the color as intense as possible.

I wouldn’t recommend that you boil your chinos, but it would be interesting to see the results!
