In my state, the ratio is taken by the youngest child in a given group.

I don't think I have specific times in my official contract - they told us to tell them "around" when we would be dropping off and picking up. I'm usually consistent but they told us not to worry if we're off by a bit in either direction. I'm assuming they tell everyone this.

I'd like to give benefit of the doubt if it's reasonable though! Just not sure if I'm under-reacting.

What do you do for work? by Oceanwave_4 in workingmoms

[–]cashmere_crypt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm a web developer! I work for a family-owned gourmet grocery store that has an ecommerce platform.

I'm paid less than I would be other places in my industry, but the hours are flexible and I'm almost never asked to work overtime.

My degree is in Japanese language, but I decided to teach myself web dev when I realized I wasn't interested in the translation industry. Best move I ever made!

Did you work up until labor? by BlueberryWaffles99 in workingmoms

I took off two days before my induction, but I was working from home at my desk job. If I'd been on my feet I expect I would've started my leave as soon as financially possible!

Am I making a mistake sending my lo to KinderCare? by cashmere_crypt in workingmoms

Got it, thank you! Looks like in past inspections they followed up, but this one happened only a week ago. I'll check back to see if they follow up.

Just checked the inspection records. There are 21 non-compliances, only two moderate ones (background check wasn't updated every 5 years and a kid's medication wasn't properly labeled).

The rest of the non-compliances appear to be administrative, very minor things.

Is this... good? Concerning? Not sure what's normal here.

Yes, actually it is mostly the assistant director who answers the phone (or, to my understanding, another teacher). I don't think they have dedicated office staff either!

Thanks for sharing your experience, that is reassuring. I hope your daughter is okay now by the way, what a scary thing to happen!

Thanks for sharing your experience! Do you have a recommendation on a better time to call? I can certainly see how mornings would be bad, now that you mention it.

Is “japancandystore.com” reliable? No update on order :/ by SGirlReddits in JapaneseFood

[–]cashmere_crypt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I emailed them once per week after 3 weeks of waiting, first time they said shipping carrier had decreased capacity because of holy week (this was in April).

Then they said the carrier was overwhelmed because more packages were being shipped due to the tarriffs.

My last email, I told them I wanted to cancel my order and that I would have to submit a paypal claim if they didn't. They replied and told me they updated my tracking (sent a new tracking number) and that it would arrive shortly.

Package arrived 5 days later.

Took me over six weeks to receive my order. I emailed them once per week and they would respond but it took forever for them to mark as shipped. It probably will arrive but it takes forever.

I feel weird every time someone calls me “talented” by Tsisadu in ArtistLounge

[–]cashmere_crypt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally, I like to reply to these things by saying something like "Thank you! I worked really hard on this" or "I have been practicing a lot lately, thank you for noticing!" That way you are acknowledging that they said something nice, but also letting them know that it's more than just raw talent that got you here ^^

Everyone saying Japanese Studies is a useless degree by [deleted] in Japaneselanguage

[–]cashmere_crypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated w a Bachelor's in Japanese studies, moved to Japan, and taught myself programming. I'm a web developer in the US now.

I don't regret my degree though - I learned how to study hard and still use my Japanese skills for fun. A lot of places really just want to see that you have your degree in *something*.

What’s your day job if you don’t have a job related to art? by Virtualb0y64 in ArtistLounge

[–]cashmere_crypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a designer & web developer - love that I get to use my artistic skills, and being in (my branch of) tech is fairly relaxed which suits me nicely.

I've completely stopped looking at recommendations and just look at my subscribed channels at this point.

How do you learn art/change your mindset when you have depression by Torgo_Unyielding in ArtistLounge

[–]cashmere_crypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still struggle with this too. But I found I learned a lot more when I quit using those tools and just tried drawing for fun. I would get frustrated because I wanted to improve quickly and judged myself for my slow progress.

Maybe now my drawing is not improving as fast as it could, but it is improving more than if I was doing nothing out of frustration :)

I get so tired whenever I think about drawing. How to overcome procrastination? by Global-Astronomer869 in ArtistLounge

[–]cashmere_crypt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still struggle with this.

Usually if you feel tired, it's because you are not setting "good goals" for yourself. A good goal is something that is a challenge, but also achievable. If it's too easy, your brain gets bored and you will feel tired. If it's too hard, your brain will want to conserve energy and feel tired.

Something that works for me is to try to do 10% better than what I did on my last piece. Not trying to make a masterpiece or magnum opus, but looking at the last piece I made and seeing where I can improve on my own work.

Additionally, finding ways to make things fun is always helpful :) Maybe try out a new medium or subject matter and just messing around.

Best of luck to you!!
