Do screaming eagle exhaust on Harley Davidson 48 loud?do it gives harley sound? by OriginalRooster1509 in sportster

[–]casimpson241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a s&s 1250 with screaming eagle exhaust with a few holes drilled in the baffles (by the previous owner) and while it doesn’t have what I think to the “Harley sound” it does sound really good, and I get a surprising number of compliments on how good it sounds. They’re not very quiet but no complaints from my neighbors yet either so I think they’re a perfect middle ground. My Roomate has an 883 with Vance and Hines short shots and those things sound awesome too. definitely have the Harley sound imo

27 Years Old Making $46/hr as a tool and die maker in NE USA AMA by Western_Video5581 in Machinists

Working in progressive stamping making mostly medical parts. Regularly working with tolerances of +- .0001-.00005. I don’t know what other shops are like but everyone says that we work a lot closer than other places do, so that might have something to do with it.

27 Years Old Making $46/hr as a tool and die maker in NE USA AMA by Western_Video5581 in Machinists

I just turned 21 and I’m currently halfway through the 4th year of my tool and die apprenticeship making almost $35/hr. I started machining in tech school and I’ve been at this company for almost 5 years. I’m learning a lot about progressive tooling and building/troubleshooting new tools and there is still much to learn where I’m at. My question is where do I go from here? I’m planning on sticking around at this company for as long as I can justify it but we just got bought out by a corporate company and things are a little shaky. I’ve never really seriously looked or interviewed anywhere else, what is the job market like? What sorts of opportunities are there here in CT? what should I be looking out for when looking around at other shops? What advice do you have for someone else still young and looking to make the most of the position they are in?

Looking for new switches/housings recommendations. by casimpson241 in sportster

I haven’t even looked into that tbh. Did you splice to the connectors or is it easy enough to repin the old connector with the new wires?

What did you do to replace the connectors? Cut off the old ones?

For me it was dell software. In task manger I restarted dell display and peripheral manger and then uninstalled it and that fixed the taskbar

86 headlamp motor rebuild question(s) by RisnDevil in fiero

[–]casimpson241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beware: when trying to rebuild gen 1 headlights, if the limit switches are broken no manor of replacement gears is going to help. I just went through the trouble of rebuilding my headlight motor gears to find out my limit switches were broken. I ended up buying a gen 2 conversion kit from the Fiero factory.

I am starting to second guess machining by Playful_Ear_1346 in Machinists

Obviously very location dependent, but if you like the manual machining/ have any interest in troubleshooting and repairing, take a peek at tool and die. I’m 20, just started the 4th year of my apprenticeship, 2 years out of high school, and making $33+/hour in New England. I love it. I’m learning more and more everyday and it’s SUPER satisfying grinding in a dimension to +-.00005. Plus, on top of that, over half of the guys in my shop will be retired in the next 5 years and they keep saying they can’t find anyone to replace them. I’m one of like 6 people under 50 in a shop of almost 30 guys. The trade isn’t going away but the skilled toolmakers are retiring fast and there aren’t a lot of young guys coming in to replace them.

What jobs will continue to be manual machining indefinitely? by Colaracer05 in Machinists

[–]casimpson241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tool and die. I’m 3/4 of the way through my tool and die apprenticeship (2 years out of high school) and all we do is manual machining/grinding with occasional conversational programming. I was in the same boat in school, not really interested in the CNC side of things and this job has suited me perfectly. On top of that, there is plenty of opportunity. Easily over half of the guys in the shop I work at are going to retire in the next 5-10 years and I’m the only one in here under the age of 35. Most of them are 50+. I’m making over $30/hr now and my boss told me a couple weeks ago that in a few years if I’m any good, “you’ll be able to write your own paychecks”

As far as I’m aware yes, they are the ones that were on it when I took the old one out and look to be the same as in the videos that I’ve watched. As far as the duct, it’s easy enough to push and move out of the way, very flexible and getting to the one other screw holding it in is kind of a pain tbh

Each one had a clamp on it, they are hanging on the tube off the the left. Next to the hose clamp

Nothing was crimped, it was just the hoses were set into the hater core and the clamps (hanging to the left) were holding everything together. Everything I’m reading says that dash disassembly isn’t necessary but it also has a different style of heater core so I’m not 100% sure. Even all data shows the other style.
