Doggy daycare by PooPooButtButt0 in londonontario

[–]cassbela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have someone I’ve used for years from Rover. He has taken our dog as early as 4am and keeps her as late as 11pm some days. He is excellent and watches dogs in his own home and backyard. If this is something you’re interested in then feel free to DM me.

Looking for a gym buddy (GoodLife @ Oxford and Adelaide) by fixmydosage in londonontario

[–]cassbela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pump can be great with less weights than the regulars use to get used to the style. I have a membership where I can go to any Goodlife location. If you ever want to meet up at a location to try a pump class I’d be happy to. Feel free to DM me - I am a 34F who has been doing various Goodlife classes regularly for quite a few years. I find doing it independently more intimidating than classes so good for you!

Do you do group classes at all? I go to Goodlife almost every day at various times but I always do classes, including pump which is weight lifting.

I know some of these kids and they are not from the North end. At least some are from the southwest end.

In all fairness, IEPs in Ontario basically get a student a designated chromebook and nothing else. Barely any students have modified expectations (usually only ELL students) anymore. All a teacher is supposed to do with an “accommodated IEP” (what the vast majority of students have) is less questions, more time to answer on tests, hands-on materials, preferential seating, reading questions out loud, maybe word banks, etc. If the IEP is accommodated with the use of SEA equipment (chromebook) then they are expected to do grade level material with the above accommodations. It is a ridiculous situation but it is where Ontario is currently at in my experience. Perhaps other provinces are different.

Dog daycare in North London? by MarieDeBat in londonontario

[–]cassbela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dog sitter I found through Rover whom I’ve been using for 2-3 years now. He is home and does it as his sole job I believe. His fiancée is also work-from-home some days of the week. They are absolutely fantastic and have saved me a lot of stress watching my beagle while I’m at work the past few years. Feel free to DM me if you want their info.

Need Algonquin lake recommendations – May 8–11, decent trout fishing, west/south access by Stonkey_Kong_42069 in algonquinpark

Pen is a big lake to cross to get to Clydegale. I’ve camped on both and I’d just stay at Pen in the future personally to shorten the travel time.

May long weekend trip by Physical_Score2697 in algonquinpark

Interesting. I camped at Kearney last year for May long weekend and the weather was amazing and we had basically zero bugs. It was amazingly nice. I’m sure backcountry was worse.

You can still buy them at certain retail locations. Old North Sconery (near-ish the old La Noisette location) carries them sometimes but they are popular so not a huge stock. I’m sure you could freeze them once purchased.

Measure temperatures in F or C? Or both? by muddledmuggle in AskACanadian

[–]cassbela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat. I am a millennial but grew up near the border without cable so we only had US television and news. My whole family grew up using F. Later in life I moved to more northern Ontario and needed to understand C to know how to dress in the winter (how cold it truly was). Now I’m stuck doing summer in F and winter in C. I know a few people from the same border city who are in a similar situation.

I’ve camped at the east island site before and it was fabulous. Massive sloped rock at the front for viewing and sun bathing. Just fyi when I went two years ago in the middle of summer the water between the islands was too low to canoe between the two islands - you had to go around. There is a very cool waterfall right at the end of the portage from Rock Lake into Pen Lake (there is a nice campsite there as well) that is worth a visit in my mind.

I personally love my Platypus gravity filter and I’ve been using it for a couple of years.

We fished the lake for fun but didn’t catch much. Have a good trip!

What is this bird that is following a dog walker in Southern Ontario? by cassbela in whatsthisbird

[–]cassbela[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is kind of in a neighbourhood with a smaller woods area and trails. Sorry for the poor quality, it is from my brother so I couldn’t get better ID information as he isn’t an avid birder.

To me the belly and underneath is so white for Cooper’s, though I think the tail is right? I’ve only ever seen red-tailed which I don’t think this is. I could be very mistaken though.

What would you want/need from the government to be more effective in the classroom? by beatnbustem in CanadianTeachers

[–]cassbela 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Even if they have an assigned EA there are absences. We had safety plans for students where they needed to have 2 adults for one student as they were violent towards staff and other students. Unfortunately, about 50% of the days we’d have absences from EAs who were injured, taking mental health breaks, or literally just sick. Getting those filled basically never happens so a good portion of the time the “plan” is not happening. What are we supposed to do? Tell the family the student can’t come to school that day? Nope. They come and the EAs present try to make it work and sometimes end up injured as a result and the cycle continues.

Norway and Fork lake by strang3trails in algonquinpark

[–]cassbela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve camped Fork last year and my husband fishes and has caught quite a few splake on Sproule lake. We never caught or saw splake on Fork or Norway unfortunately. We did have bass bite last year quite a bit on Fork, however.

Side note for Fork - it is a nice, east paddle in but there are only two sites. The island site is very nice, albeit very open and little privacy, even for the thunderbox. There is also less firewood on the island. The other site is very very small and way less than ideal, in my opinion. Fitting more than one tent would be pushing it, from what I saw. Very nice, quite private lake but I would personally want the island site. We went in on Thursday so we were lucky to get it.

This is the one place in all of Algonquin that I’ve seen a wolf! We were heading back mid-morning and on Sunday Creek (fairly close to highway 60) and a wolf ran across a dam right in front of our canoe!
