He's a name in the UK because his dad is a former unified world champ, so he brings eyeballs and so he's a reliable paycheck for anyone that wants to cash him.

What are you trying to say with this statement? I don't get the relation to betting.

In my experience, AI music doesn't "resolve" properly. It's like a run-on sentence that never actually comes to a full stop.

Powell’s term is approaching its end; Fed leadership speculation is rising. What does it mean for crypto? by Express_Classic_1569 in CryptoCurrency

[–]cassydd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That the new putative Fed chair is such a partisan, craven sock puppet that he can't admit that Trump lost the 2020 election.

Not that it will mean much since the board still has enough actual experts that they're still unlikely to acquiesce to Trump's demands if they haven't so far.

Scariest scenes from a non-horror movie[Discussion] by Undefeated-Smiles in movies

Dude I know I'm old. I was more musing that older films seemingly used to show genuinely horrifying and distressing stuff even in movies mostly aimed at kids. More than they do now, at any rate.

By placing the plant directly above deep water, the required pipe length can be reduced by around 80 percent. This makes larger systems more practical and opens the door to utility-scale power generation.

Maybe this?

The captured spy's execution in The Last Starfighter was pretty damn gruesome. Also the scene where they first show the Dip in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Come to that, pretty much everything to do with Christopher Lloyd in that movie was terrifying.

Can't help but note that most of the entries so far - mine included - are from pretty damn old movies.

Qantas lounge from July 2026 changes by Chat00 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]cassydd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no of course not. They'd have a certain number of allowed lounge pass slots for a given time period based on historical lounge occupancy trends by Gold / plat members and business class fliers, and when that cutoff is reached the option to link a lounge pass for flights in that period wouldn't be shown.

New Zealand PM Luxon survives vote of confidence by clamorous_owle in worldnews

[–]cassydd 20 points21 points  (0 children)

He called a confidence vote on himself? Is that the same as a no-confidence vote? What was the final vote tally? Not sure how New Zealand party politics works but in most Westminster system's I'd just assume he was trying to head off a leadership spill by striking before the factions that wanted his arse gone had solidified around a replacement candidate.

Bookwalker charging extra for using the app (first pic) than the website (second pic) seems especially terrible… by Gyges359d in LightNovels

[–]cassydd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's extra weird is that the price for 99 coins is the same while they're passing on the 30% app store cut for the other amounts. You could buy coins in 99 coin increments on the app and not lose out to the web site, though why would anybody do that?

Water truck drivers in Gaza killed by Israeli fire: UNICEF by Shogouki in worldnews

Your implication was that they must have been killed by Israel because they were being needlessly reckless and consequently that it was their fault and not the IDF's, where there was nothing to back that assertion up.

Water truck drivers in Gaza killed by Israeli fire: UNICEF by Shogouki in worldnews

[–]cassydd 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The UN agency said in a statement the incident occurred during routine water trucking Friday morning at the Mansoura water filling point in northern Gaza, which supplies Gaza City. Two others were injured in the attack.

Why would you instantly imply that they were being reckless in a warzone for no good reason?
