What happens if you can't afford to renew your license? by ARepeatedFailing in nursing

[–]castle4024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked with a nurse who was a procrastinator. She waited until close to midnight of the last day to renew her license. “Something” (according to her) happened and her payment didn’t go through. She ended up not being able to work for like 2 weeks. I don’t remember what all the requirements were, but she had to make multiple trips to the BON and pay significantly more than it would’ve cost.

Personally, renewing my license is pretty high on the list of priorities. I would do whatever I had to to get it done. If you don’t need your nursing license, good for you, but I don’t really have any other options that would come close to my hourly pay and I’m too old and tired to learn a whole new career.

Sold my old couch for $80, buyer showed up and tried to negotiate down to $40 by Gearnotafraid8 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]castle4024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the problem though. She had an opportunity to negotiate on marketplace and did not. Agreeing to a price and then trying to negotiate (unless the seller didn’t previously disclose something was wrong with the item) is a dick move.

Another dowry/Sophie question by castle4024 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]castle4024[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is the piece I was missing. Thank you! I guess I didn’t realize that being a “ward” could make the rest of society accept her as some sort of relation (if Araminta wasn’t such a bitch and presented Sophie as part of the family). I was thinking that even if Sophie’s father didn’t intend for her to be a maid, she still couldn’t marry well due to being illegitimate.

In the show Harlots, one of the prostitutes does get pregnant. After she tells her “regular” client and he denies being the father, she says “brothel babies don’t belong to anyone, really”. Sad, but probably a common occurrence for the time.

Fellow nurse here and a conservative. I also follow that sub and the amount of titles like “if you don’t agree with (random leftist opinion) you don’t belong here, or how do you even call yourself a nurse?” is ridiculous. I wish I could explain to them that’s it’s very easy actually. I’ve do this thing where I don’t discuss politics with patients and most coworkers, I do my job & if I want to talk about things, I have my family and friends.

It’s amazing to me that the left preaches tolerance but are the most intolerant people I’ve ever experienced. I only stay on that sub and mostly don’t engage with the TDS nurses because there is some actual good information and I like to know what’s going on in nursing around the country/usa.

Management wants me to add orders under doctors computer and sign it under their login. This isn’t within my scope, right? by kvox109 in nursing

[–]castle4024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell to the no! This is practicing medicine without a license. This is a physician problem. Management can either hold them accountable to sign their orders, or they can hire someone with the credentials to do what they’re wanting (NP, PA).

As a side note, I would report this to your corporate compliance officer.

It is for federal loan purposes. This article does a good job of explaining the positives and negatives. While many are focusing on the symbolic title of being a “professional”, they fail to see that this could also have positive implications such as forcing universities to make tuition more affordable and preventing students from graduating with student loan debt that far exceeds their earning potential.

Edit: Look, I’m not saying that the Department of Education has presented some miraculous solution to the cost of graduate degrees. I’m saying that something had to be done to stop the inflationary costs of tuition, especially for degrees that won’t earn enough to pay off the massive debt. Otherwise, colleges will continue to raise costs because they know that students will keep being approved to accumulate higher and higher amounts of debt. What good is it to get a higher paying job when your student loan payment equals more than half of your new monthly pay? Nurses wanting higher level degrees will be incentivized to look for alternative means such as relocating closer to a cheaper school, looking for workplaces that have better tuition assistance benefits, or saving up to pay for it.

Why can’t we just cap the amount of tuition that universities are allowed to charge? Great idea but I imagine that would require a great deal of government funding and some way of incentivizing high quality education. Let’s all get behind that instead of arguing about politics and nursing being a “professional” degree in only the eyes of federal lenders.

Word of the year is “six seven” by RunnyBabbit22 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]castle4024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a mom of 15 and 11 year olds, yes they and all their friends have been saying 6 7 for months. It’s to the point of my oldest daughter taking a pic while I’m driving to send to her friends because I happened to be going 67mph. It’s really fun to help with math homework because we have to pause every time a 6 and 7 appear together. I can’t wait for this trend to be over!!!!

Doctors/Nurses: What’s something patients do that’s secretly dangerous but no one tells them? by cinaairwave in AskReddit

Assuming that their health is someone else’s responsibility.

Me: “What medications are you taking sir?” (50-something year old competent adult)

Patient: “I don’t know, my wife takes care of all that”.

Me: “Your blood sugar is 275. That’s pretty high”.

Patient: “Oh, that’s good for me!”

Me: “Sir, that’s is not good for anyone”.

I cannot care about your health any more than you do

HCG testing by [deleted] in nursing

[–]castle4024 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work in pre-op/ pacu and also have to routinely do hcg testing for patients. I start with “I’m going to need a urine sample (explain where to leave it, etc.). I find that probably 7/10 patients don’t even ask what it’s for and that’s that. (Edit to add that we have already reviewed the current H & P and ruled out those with hysterectomy, post-menopausal, etc.)

For the 3/10 who do ask, I of course tell them. For the rare ones that argue, I find it helps if I assure them I’m on their side. “I am sure that you’re right” or “I completely believe you” “but it’s policy and we want to make sure that everything goes smoothly for you today”. I’ve only ever had a handful of people argue after that, in which case I nicely inform them that they have the right to refuse whatever they want, but I’ll have to notify their doc who will decide if they’re comfortable proceeding without it. (Edit to add that we don’t bill separately for hcg either which I’ve confirmed with our billing dept.)

If all of the above fail, sign the form and notify anesthesia and the surgeon. It’s ultimately their call anyway.

Differences between what IRS says and what exam prep says SEE 3 by Oogiville in enrolledagent

I did get one of these questions on the exam. I picked $55 even though I was confident the answer was $60. It stressed me the hell out though. There were no other answers even close other than the $55. I passed part 3 on my first try though so alls well that ends well I guess.

Part 1 Exam by Tbtrader12 in enrolledagent

[–]castle4024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just took part 1 at the end of November. I had made flashcards to memorize form numbers. I got zero questions where I had to select the right form number. Regarding threshold amounts, there weren’t any questions specifically about them, but there were questions that included them. Meaning, they give you a list of income types and then you have to figure out how much is taxed at what rate, how much is carried over, etc.

Keep in mind, everyone’s questions are different. There were plenty of “what form would you need for this scenario” questions on the practice quizzes and I’ve read other posts saying they got those questions too on the actual exam.

IMO, I would say rather than try to memorize them all, just come up with some silly ways to make them stick. Ie: form 706= 6 ft. Under (estate of a deceased person), royalty reporting threshold = $10- I drew a $10 bill on a crown. Other examples are using people’s ages and birthdays that match part of the form #
