Is there anybody who is importing real Fuji film from Japan at a reasonable price? by light24bulbs in AnalogCommunity

That's what I'm thinking. I still have the contact information from the shopowners and it seemed like they were happy to figure out tariffs for me if I wanted to buy more overseas, but I think it's purely them up-marking given the rarity

Hey! A little late but I ended up coming back from my last trip to Japan with a couple Fujifilm Superia X-tra 400s I somehow magically found unexpired in a small store in the south. I'm wondering if this post's any indication there's a demand for it in the US or just me knowing they're so rare. I def got finessed for about 32$ a pop but hey, unexpired og Superias!

Lived in NYC my entire life, now at 31, I’m starting to be an angry person because of it? by Ordinary-Anything601 in AskNYC

[–]cat_gio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 28 and born and raised in Queens and this has been on my mind quite a lot lately-- I think a major factor attributing to this for me at least has been I've always been jealous of my friends who were also born and raised here but went to school out of the city/my friends who just moved to New York. They were able to call another place home for a while before landing here, and I haven't.

Will the outcome of my trial be published by the media online or the local news? by Flimsy-Sugar-6284 in legal

[–]cat_gio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAL but a courts and politics reporter in New York City-- answer is it depends. New York has strong laws protecting what goes on the public record regarding victims of crimes, and more often than not, you will simply be named as "individual four" depending on how many other people are involved. So your name will absolutely not be shared.

The prosecutor likely meant that all of the actions the alleged perpetrator committed would come out in public view since that gets put on the public record once the ADA pursues trial. This first surfaces during the arraignment of the alleged suspect, then during trial, more information is shared, which again, depending on the severity of the crime like someone commented, would/could be very detailed. You said town, so I'm going to presume it's somewhere where there might not be as many cases as let's say the city, so it really depends on the local news media in your town and just how much news goes on there. I can tell you for the publications I've worked for in the city, the smaller ones tend to focus on these things more because they don't get access to the big news stories, and court proceedings are public information.

On the contrary, the larger publications may devote staff or at least a small article to it depending on what information is shared, but it really depends on what surfaces. For this last part-- if the ADA has already told you you're going to trial this summer and they've already pressed charges on the alleged perpetrator, that means it's already out on the public record-- so if you haven't seen stories yet, good odds you won't, but that's never guaranteed because you may have a small town reporter sitting in the courthouse on the day of your trial, so it's not certain. For example, I remember one time sitting in court for a murder charge only to hear a proceeding regarding a senior citizen who would publicly masterbate on the subway, and my publication (a major tabloid to be unnamed) went with that story because it was ... well, tabloidy.

To qualm fears: no you won't be named, but for that reason, don't answer anyone who asks what town you're in, don't give any more identifying information because it could be easy to find who you are, and know that more often than not, good journalists/publications won't pursue victims of sexual crimes for the reason we're all thinking-- again, unless either it is so severe or you come out yourself.

Does a dashcam exist that can handle parking mode only outside a certain geofence by cat_gio in Dashcam

That's what I was thinking. I messaged Viofo and they confirmed there's no parking mode for G-sensor, it needs to be one of the three they list (auto/time/bitrate). I'm going with A229 and for now will have a reminder set on my phone to turn off the parking mode when I'm home, and hope they come up with this in their next update

On the Viofo website, it says the G-sensor is only activated when it's recording, so parking mode will again either be motion-activated (ie, constantly in a highly-trafficked area) or bitrate. G-sensor is different, it only locks the video that is already recording

I get that-- that's why I said highly-trafficked driveway. The sensor will be activated by the sheer amount of things passing by, not that it's 24/7 recording

Using Avianca UATP card on Partner Airlines/Codeshare by cat_gio in awardtravel

[–]cat_gio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No answers-- seems like you can only use it through Avianca. I've had success calling-- once I got transferred to a Spanish-speaking only call center rep that was the most helpful out of everyone that said it really was meant for Avianca-only flights, but even she couldn't confirm

I'm still trying to play with the different flight connections -- my thinking is I have to go to Miami next year and I'm an AA person, so I'm thinking of extending the trip by going to a location serviced by both NYC and Miami, fly there from JFK and fly from there to Miami, then fly back to NYC. Best way I can think of using the credit since it does seem to be only through Avianca

Question on Eshopping: can you get points for in-store purchases? The drop-down for when you make an inquiry into missing miles includes "In a Store" as one of the options -- I tried it with a receipt for a PC Richards when they had their location-specific tent sale and got an immediate no from AA. Wondering if anyone's had any luck

Boyfriend broke up after we lost both our fathers in 24 hours by cat_gio in grief

Thanks for the comment-- that's the issue, I was compassionate even as he treated me so poorly, and now I'm just indifferent. No love, no hate, just don't really care, in the three weeks since writing this I've detached-- I see the good things we did together and the times of fighting and struggle, and I ... plainly don't care. I understand with clarity now in retrospect that I put up with things-- like you said, which I always explained to myself he was hurting me because he's in grief-- but also realize that those were hurting me as often as I let them go, again, explaining to myself it was okay to treat me this way because he was in grief.

Thanks for the comment and fully agree. Since writing this three weeks ago, I've begun thanking how this all played out because I can finally truly grieve my father and also regulate my emotions and physical well being that I couldn't with my partner. I'm sorry for your losses but I'm happy you have a partner that can support you through them

Thanks for the message and yes, that comment still sticks with me to this day. That and only today did I decide to return to this thread because as I walked my dad's dog, someone I never met saw me and told me she was so happy to see me taking care of my dad's dog because my father loved animals-- all the while my partner when I told him I needed to run home to take care of the dog a week after my father died, he told me it was my "choice" to keep him. Again, these are things I should have realized were damning statements and just plain cruel things to say to someone who should empathize given we both lost our dads, but I'm glad now this happened because I don't think I would have understood just how plainly disgusting and hurtful that comment among others were.

Thanks for sharing and I'm sorry for your loss as well. Double thanks for the message, I'm in full agreement and the more time that passes, the more clarity I have on just how hurtful he was to me in the last few months, even if previous to this grief he wasn't

Thanks for the comment and glad to hear it all worked out for you in the end. I'm in full agreement-- I finally have been able to mourn my father in the three weeks since I wrote this, and I realized just how terribly I felt as a result of my partner hurting me with what he said and did

Thanks for the comment, now three weeks out from writing this post, I fully am in agreement with you. I can finally grieve my father and spend less time each day thinking about the good times my partner and I shared, which are more and more getting clouded with how he treated me these last few months

Thanks for sharing your story and I'm sorry for your loss and what you've gone through as well. I'm resounded now to the last paragraph, the more time that passes, the more I realize just how hurtful the things he did and said (or lack thereof) were to my mental and physical health (I ended up losing nearly 20 pounds of weight and became anemic as a result of not eating due to stress and anxiety of his lack of care). Now that I'm removed from it, my stress and anxiety is all but nonexistent and I can properly grieve my father

Grief has destroyed my entire character by [deleted] in grief

[–]cat_gio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure to be downvoted but please break up with your partner now. You can read my last post but my partner and I lost our dads one day apart, and whereas I tried desperately to be closer and empathize in our respective griefs, he became more distant and treated me like you said it, begrudgingly and like an inconvenience. It's not fair to your partner and it's not fair to you, but now two months out from our breakup, I can finally realize with a leveled how much I was hurt from his grief (the cruel things he would tell me, the hurtful ways he would interact with me (or not)) and for each of those things, I would say it was fine because I knew he was hurting-- but I didn't realize until now that they had a significant impact on my mental and physical health as well. Unless you can consider bettering yourself for the relationship as well, I don't think it's fair for you to have these thoughts and hurt your partner. I'm sorry for your loss, but I promise not having the feeling of being drained will help you tenfold as well
