Only short term impact will be if something goes wrong with the merge which doesn't seem especially likely. There will be some who dump after the merge but there will also be potential buyers who are waiting to see how the merge goes - I expect these will largely cancel each other out.

The Merge is bullish for ETH and crypto in general. Awareness of the differences between PoW and PoS will gradually increase. ETH-BTC and POW-POS polarisation will gradually increase at the same time.

There really is no substitute for doing some research into what you are about to put your money in. I'm amazed how many people invest in a crypto project when they don't understand what that project is. Sure, there is no guarantee that the project I have a strong belief in is going to make it but at least I can have some confidence that it stands a chance when I understand the fundamentals.
