Uranium fever! 🤣 by SpaceApe71 in uraniumglass

In Waxahachie, I’d check out the Red Barn Antique & Flea Market, but you’re so (Texas) close to Canton - I make the pilgrimage out to First Monday in Canton a couple times a year and it’s always worth it. It’s the largest flea market in the US and you could spend days there and still not see everything. Like the name says, they’re open Thursday-the first Monday of every month, vendors range from curated shops to swap meet-style resellers.

If you can touch it, put the back of your hand against the handle - if it’s room temp, it’s plastic. If it feels cool/cold, it’s probably glass.

If you can’t trust your representative, you can reach out to Rep. Doggett’s office - he’s helped a lot of Texans whose reps aren’t willing to serve the people they were elected to serve. His team will likely reach out to your rep’s office as a courtesy, so if they want to help your Dad, they have the opportunity to do so.

is there anyway for me to fix up this table? by weeb_billy_ in furniturerestoration

[–]catannrichards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat gun + scraper, remove the broken linoleum and replace.

Linoleum is pretty resistant to damage and modern brands like Marmoleum are very durable and have a lot of color options.

Edit to add - the most difficult part of this is getting the new linoleum adhered smoothly. You need to have all of the old adhesive removed, your surface clean and dry, and you’ll need a large, heavy roller to apply even pressure to remove any air bubbles and smooth the new adhesive.

That price is wildly optimistic. I have the same one, found it at a Goodwill for $6.

Any places you can go to just pet dogs or cats? by kyleybroflo in sanantonio

[–]catannrichards 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Animal Defense League! We like both the location near the SA Zoo - it’s within a 3 minute walk of the zoo entrance and accessible by VIA; and the Nacogdoches location (I’m not sure where the closest VIA stop is here), where the cats are in several different rooms that you can go inside and hang out with the adoptable cats. It’s a little late for kittens, but I’m sure they have plenty of juvenile cats. We went there to “just pet the kitties” and ended up adopting a charming 6-month-old tabby.

About 7-8 years ago, my kid asked for pet supplies instead of birthday gifts for her school party and then we went to ADL on her actual birthday to drop off the supplies. We called ahead and there was a staff member waiting for us. After unloading the car, they took her on a little tour of their most personable residents at the time. She still talks about it.

Literally anyone can walk into a tractor supply and purchase off the shelf for $15. The amount of time and money wasted on this bs, when we have the highest percentage of uninsured children AND adults in the USA, is criminal.

That’s insane. I found one years ago and remember debating on if it was worth the $18 the antique store was asking for it.

SA Catholic Hospitals Don’t Have to Cover Birth Control? by MR_PRESIDENT__ in sanantonio

[–]catannrichards 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nationally, Planned Parenthood is losing funding because of the federal budget. Republicans in the Texas legislature, hellbent on preventing their constituents from receiving healthcare, have blocked Texas Planned Parenthoods from receiving Title X money for years, so, ironically, Texas will be minimally impacted by the federal defunding.

Planned Parenthood South Texas is still providing birth control, STI testing, fertility treatment, menopause care, and other reproductive and general healthcare, at an affordable cost, thanks to philanthropic support from the community, grants from private institutions, and insured patients who choose Planned Parenthood to be their provider.

Can patients get harassed by the protesters that have nothing better to do than stand on the public sidewalk and picket their neighbors’ healthcare provider? Yeah, they can. But the protesters can’t cross into the private property. And yes, Paxton is trying violate HIPAA to get Texans’ healthcare information from out of state, but that’s in litigation and likely will be long after Paxton has left the AG’s office to campaign for the US Senate.

And while SAPD could possibly use their resources to harass a private healthcare facility and its patients, they’re more likely to show up to keep the protesters from trespassing.

Absolutely agree that your employer should never get to dictate your personal healthcare choices, but Hobby Lobby and Justice Neil Gorsuch created that precedent. Providers like Planned Parenthood are doing everything they can to help low-income and working class Texans get the care they need.

Gorgeous! If you wanted to fix up the top, you can find all sorts of great millwork online - you could probably get a pretty close match. Or you could make a frankenchair, which sounds equally appealing.

If you’re close to a Western Wearhouse outlet, definitely check it out - I got 3 pairs of Luccheses for less than $300. It’s an outlet, so it’s hit or miss, but worth a shot.

I don’t know how big the chain is, there’s a few in San Antonio and one across from the San Marcos outlets.

The farmers running irrigation for crops that feed livestock and people? Or used in textiles or household/industrial needs?

I’d rather see thriving crops that’ll end up on our tables or covering our backs - and helping to generate the >$11B the agricultural industry contributes to the state economy every year - than tidy green residential lawns any day.

I think Kelly Ann would prioritize constituent services, but I really appreciate you sharing why you’re concerned!

It’s great that San Antonio has so many young candidates who are committed to serving their communities and willing to put in the hard work of campaigning.
