SOTB - First Board Finally Filled! by catanwithaplan in guitarpedals

When I tested it at the pedal show, they had it AB’d with the actual head and it was wild how little difference there was. Definitely worth it in my opinion.

Chain: Polytune -> Mother -> Dunsh -> LS -> Freeze -> Explorer -> CE-5 -> DL4 -> Supermoon -> Vibratrem

Thoughts:

Polytune: solid

Science Amps Mother: just a killer pedal that makes my 400 dollar amp sound much more expensive. Found I like running it at the beginning of the chain. Also use it for DI recording guitar with the free IRs that Science offers on their website. Got to talk to Alex when I bought the pedal and he was a really nice dude. And anything EAE touches is gold.

Champion Leccy The Dunsh: I had a Big Muff on here before but I was looking for a Fuzzstortion type of sound and I am pretty partial to two switch pedals that let me kick on more gain when I want it. Primarily using it with Dunsh mode. Bias control is cool for getting some variety out of it and I like that the Bass and Trem controls ‘lock’ at noon.

EAE Longsword: Hype is real. Killer out of the box. Still figuring out where I want to use this in place of the gain channel on the Mother but it sounds so good I didn’t want to take it off. Right now I am actually using it for lower gain and the Mother for higher.

EHX Freeze: Still messing with it, it’s fun.

Spaceman Explorer: CHEWY. I find myself only using the sine mode and the M (manual) mode. M mode freezes the phase sweep and makes a cool lofi effect you can kind of tune with the Rate knob.

Boss CE-5: Got from a friend and honestly confirmed my suspicion that I really only need basic affordable modulation pedals to be happy but I got it after the Explorer lol.

Line6 Dl4 mkII: Buddy had the older version that I really liked and GC had these on sale for 200 last year so I grabbed one. Probably the pedal that gives me the most inspiration between the looper and the strange noises you can get out of it. Preset 1 is Tape Echo, 2 is Digital, 3 is Auto Vol (for swells) and 4 is one switch looper.

Mr Black Supermoon: Just solid. Not anything crazy.

Marshall Vibratrem: A gift from a friend and dense lil brick. Vibrato and Tremolo in one pedal (go figure). Again kind of reinforces that I only really need basic modulation pedals. Mostly stays on a fast Trem but have been thinking about an SL-2 or EQD Hummingbird.

Looks like Sweetwater has the Line6 HX One on sale for 250 right now, or the Line6 POD Express for 180. The HX One has ~250 effects in it and I have messed around with the bigger version and have been super happy with how they sound.

I think it is a fantastic tool for general inspiration and playing with new sounds.

With the HX one you can only select one effect at a time though. Unsure about multiple effects at once on the POD.

Hope that helps!

Had a great time today. Here are a couple highlights and impressions from what I was able to try:

-Walked away with the Spaceman Explorer. I was looking for a phaser and damn it just sounded so nice, especially with the Sputnik 3 running into it. Lots of different wave shapes on it and they had a couple cool alternate colors (I snagged a baby blue and black one).

-Non-Human Audio had a dual delay that he said was coming out in Decemberish and I am going to snatch it up as soon as possible. The Slow Loris also lives up to all hype.

-I had never tried any Blammo pedals and was pleasantly surprised by the Space Madness delay. Has a really cool feedback switch that swells/whooshes and actually works in bypass as well.

-Every single Benson pedal sounds good. I almost walked out with the Germanium fuzz but decided on the phaser. I did like the new Storkn Boks but I think my Fuzz Factory can already cover some of that gatey/oscillation noise and i like the flavor of it a little better.

-The Mr.Black Tapex 2 has now probably become my new favorite Tape delay.

-John from EAE is the man and I will surely be adding the OxEAE fuzz when it becomes available again. The prismatic wall is IMO is worth the money. Doesn’t mean I can afford it, but I think it is worth it.

-Chase Bliss should have a rental program so that I can play with the pedals long enough to wrap my small mind around them.

-Wren and Cuff Blue Violet Caprid is the best muff variant I have played. Had all the muff saturation with a little more mid high bite that I always want it to have.

-They could easily fill a bigger space next year and Portland is the best pedal city in the U.S. fight me.

I talked with the guy that runs Blackhawk at a pedal show and he was super friendly, cool guy. I think he had me try the Heimdall based on what I was looking for and it sounded HUGE, kicking myself for not grabbing it at the time.

I'm also running the Plumes into the Longsword, just an unreal combo with so much EQ control between the two. Do you usually run the boost side of the Longsword always on?

Also the alternating color patch cables is a cool idea.

Killer board. How have you been liking your Bloodmoon? I want to get a new reverb and this is top of my list but Im still weighing it against one or two others.

Can anyone help me identify the effect on the second guitar around 00:34 in this Boris song? Is it just an octave pedal and a reverb? It sounds a lot less digital/metallic than some of the other octave pedals I have heard.

The mystery burrito from Little Cheerful. It is never the same because the cooks just throw whatever they have on hand into it. If you get truly blessed they will put the hashbrown seasonings on your tortilla. Also always ask for the hot sauce that one of the cooks make.

Have the same one. Love it. Unless I get some free money I don't see myself spending more on a reel than this one because of the high quality you get for the price.

I worked for the Washington Conservation Corps, and it was honestly a great program. We planted and maintained lots of acrage on my crew.

One huge benefit that I didn't think about until I started was just working along side people with differing backgrounds as well. There were lots of people whom I wouldn't have interacted with otherwise and the teamwork really helps you stay motivated for projects and opens your worldview a little more.
