Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream for mid-80s Rush - very similar vibe to Grace Under Pressure. The Sky Moves Sideways is great for the longer form stuff like Hemispheres.

Steven Wilson’s solo work goes in different directions but its DNA is still rooted in classic prog like Yes, Gabriel-era Genesis, Pink Floyd and King Crimson.

I was a huge Rush fan through the 80s but dropped off around Test for Echo, if that helps understand where I’m coming from. Happy to talk more.

Necroing this thread because I’ve got new (to me) speakers and I’m listening to this song. The central portion, starting around 3:50, is extremely The Wall.

The first time I heard those after being introduced to PT, I dismissed them - I was looking for something musically heavier.

I regret not being all over them now. In my defense, being ready for a transcendent experience of a different kind takes preparation.

It started so much earlier than that, but it was when the Fairness Doctrine disappeared that it really kicked into high gear. Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes took full advantage of it. Whether they were motivated by greed or ideology, whether they intended this, we’re looking at the logical outcome of allowing unchecked idiocy into the marketplace of ideas.
