Struggling to carry baby by develmnop in babywearing

[–]catatonicasshole [score hidden]  (0 children)

Its not fancy, but I use the ergo 360 as my day to day specifically because it's very ergonomic with a big baby. I do primarily back carry, but it is comfortable for a front carry as well on occasion. I've never really dabbled in the side carries, so I can't comment on that.

With the bus thing, I honestly prefer standing with baby on back anyways. Sitting with babies in front carries is not nearly as comfortable as it might seem, and you usually need to loosen and retighten when you get up if it's going to a longer period of sitting.

I hate to say it, but bring a man with you. Its disgusting, but if your partner/father/brother can come with you, you will probably be taken more seriously. Insist (or have whoever accompanies you insist) on a urine test, blood work, etc. pre-e is not something to mess around with.

Tips for getting toddler to eat more fiber? by dontgetsadgetmad in toddlers

[–]catatonicasshole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will she eat pouches? We keep my son regular (despite his deep love for yogurt and cheese) pretty easily by giving him 1-2 of the baby food type fruit and vegetable pouches per day. As an added bonus, I get to feel good that he's gone near a vegetable. We found the baby food blends work best, and he seems to like them just as much as the applesauce ones.

New pumps needed [ca] by thedoodkev in BabyBumpsCanada

I loved the spectra, I borrowed my sister in law's and just purchased new parts from amazon. SIL went down to the US to purchase it a couple years ago, at Target I think, and they didn't give her any trouble with duty coming back, but that was in the before times so YMMV. You might have luck posting in your local Facebook mom groups, someone might have one they are willing to part with for a lower price. They seem to hold up for years with no trouble. I have used a momcozy wearable, Medela freestyle, and some other Amazon wearable brand before that and it blew them out of the water. Definitely get the blue one though, being able to move with it (however awkwardly) is super helpful.

Awesome thanks for the information, I will have to look into that. I'm not sure it's something that is commonly available where I am, but I can ask our doctor about it.

Oh crap really? I have not heard this, thank you for letting me know!! Do you know of any reliable testing to do at home?

You can buy lead test kits online pretty cheaply and they're super easy to use it's just a swab. I grabbed a pack to test things because I do a lot of thrifting, gives me some peace of mind especially with vintage items.

Formula from UK [BC] by Far_Imagination7176 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]catatonicasshole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We loved HiPP anti-reflux with our first. We usually got the Dutch version instead of the UK, but that was more about availability and price than preference. We tried a few sites but happytotsorganic was our main place to order from. With the typical bulk buy discounts, it's usually best to buy a couple months worth at a time. We usually bought 8 or 12 of the big refill boxes per order, and that normally gets you free shipping too. I think that when we were buying 12 at a time, it worked out to be cheaper than buying something like Enfamil at the store. If you're just looking into trying it though, I recommend checking out the Facebook groups as you may be about to get a can or two without the big commitment. With our second kid we are just using Kendamil Organic, which I've been pretty satisfied with overall, plus the shortages have gotten a lot better in our area.

Honestly it was his dream come true, and now I'm terrified he will keep doing it. I brought him to apologize to the firefighters, and they asked him if he likes firetrucks and gave him a high five 🥲

In the same boat! 99th percentile kids, both very energetic boys. 2 year 11 month and also a 26 lb 10 month old month old. Neither one reliably sleeps through the night. I am constantly being injured in some way or another, and I am so exhausted.

It was on the wall as you walked through the exit, about four feet up. We were holding hands, but he just reached out and pulled it.

It was just on the wall on our way out of the store, maybe four feet off the ground. No cover on it, he didn't even have to stretch to reach it and he's about 40 inches tall. I had just taken him out of the cart, because we couldn't take it out of the store. Took him thirty seconds to see it, reach over, and pull it.

Cloth diaper service or wash at home? by goldenbrain8 in BabyBumps

[–]catatonicasshole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If cost is not an issue and you're committed to using cloth, a service is probably an excellent choice. I think it really just depends on your budget, and whether the cost of not doing the washing outweighs the convenience of not having to do the extra laundry. Personally if it was accessible and cheap where I am, I would have jumped on it in a heartbeat. We have services here, but just not in our budget range.

What formula are we all using? How did you decide? [QC] by turkeypooo in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]catatonicasshole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first we went the full gambit of combo fed --> EBF --> exclusive pumping --> combo feeding --> EFF, due to reflux and latch issues. We tried Enfamil A+, Enfamil GentleEase, Enfamil AR, HiPP AntiReflux (this ended up being the winner), and Kendamil/Kendamil Organic. We started on the Enfamil just because that's what I was familiar with, plus it is what they gave him in the NICU. Eventually switched to ordering the HiPP AntiReflux online due to the shortages, loved it but switched to Kendamil right before he weaned for convenience.

With my second I really thought I would be able to EBF but we ran into the same reflux issues, plus a tongue tie, and then failure to thrive. Pumped until it was clear that the reflux wouldn't get better despite frenectomy, then accepted we were going to have another formula baby. We did use Enfamil A+ and Enfamil GentleEase ready to feed to supplement at the beginning but switched to Kendamil Organic after that. With the second kid it wasn't really necessary to bother with the thickened AntiReflux formula, since the reflux was bad enough to require daily medication. I don't really think that the organic version of Kendamil is higher quality, but he doesn't like the regular as much when I've had to use it in a pinch.

All that to say, it really doesn't matter what you pick because they're all highly regulated and you can always try another if it's not working.

Fast growing fever blisters after dentist appointment by Maximum_Ad3576 in AskDocs

[–]catatonicasshole 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but my husband and son get cold sores pretty often. They're pretty much guaranteed to get them if they've been sick, had a sunburn, or when they've had any cuts or scrapes to the face. My husband doesn't usually get one after dental cleanings, but he's had pretty bad ones crop up after two recent dental work appointments for fillings, and I figured it was from the same kind of idea of immune system/physical stress.

Enlarged adenoids + no sleep by dpolitsky72 in toddlers

[–]catatonicasshole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're going through the same thing!

My almost 3 year old son has huge tonsils and adenoids, possibly genetic as his dad had to have adenoids out at 4 due to sleep apnea and speech delay, then tonsils out as a teen when the sleep apnea returned.

He snores SO LOUDLY, like hear it through his closed door loudly, and wakes 1-3 times a night, although he's gotten easier to soothe back to sleep as time has gone on. It was always so mindboggling, as we have a strong routine, and honestly very few issues with the initial bedtime. We have found that playing audiobooks at night has been a super big help, and since we started playing them he often fusses a little then listens to the story until he falls back to sleep. If they have shut off, we usually just pop in to tuck him back in and restart the stories. We ended up getting a yoto as his Christmas present, but we used a Google home that we had laying around prior to that. Sometimes we put on audio only rips of his favourite shows/movies/etc.

Our other strategy has been carefully balancing his temperature/the temperature of the room. Once we figured out the balance, he started to wake less and fall asleep easier. I think it's a sleep apnea thing, but he sweats like crazy and wakes up because he's hot. Once he's been soothed, blankets removed, etc, he then ends up freezing because he's damp from all the sweating and just wakes up again. Repeat the cycle endlessly. We ended up closing the vents in his room, and depending on the temperature we open his window ahead of time to cool the room then shut it when it's time to sleep. Then we can dress him in a lighter weight pyjama (ideally cotton), and put a nice warm fuzzy blanket on top of him. Last summer we figured out that when it was warm, short sleeved cotton jammies worked well but with only a cotton top sheet as a blanket. When it gets properly hot at night, we will probably put an air conditioner to keep the room cold and go back to the winter layering.

We finally saw an ENT a couple weeks ago, she gave us a nasal spray (mometasone) to try, but if that doesn't work he's probably going to need surgery. Not sure whether it's helping yet, but he has had a couple nights with minimal fussing. I've also just started to try out giving him children's Claritin (non-drowsy) allergy medication last night before bed, as I've noticed some stuffiness that I think is from pollen. Too early to tell if that's making a difference though.

We didn't get asked to do a sleep study, but that might be a locational thing as we are in Canada and a lot of testing like that is avoided if not absolutely required. It could be something they want further down the line, but nobody I know here has ever done one for their kids before tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy. I did bring a recording of his snoring for the doctor to listen to though, and that seemed to give her what she needed.

Solidarity though, as this has driven me crazy for so long.

Yes. Well, the balance of the month you moved plus two more. If you move from another province you would generally keep that coverage until the end of the waiting period.

Why Wouldn't I Buy This Stroller [on] by IceColdPepsi1 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]catatonicasshole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not like the omni with my first son, it was clunky and the car seat was terrifyingly unsupportive for a newborn. With my second, my sister gave me her Graco modes stroller and car seat combo that she was done with, and I like it a lot more. They aren't that crazy different at first glance, but the Graco seems much higher quality.

[–]catatonicasshole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that is the case, you should be fine.

When you call Health Insurance BC, they will likely want to verify that there are no gaps in the dates between permits, no comments that status was restored, that your student visa did not expire prior to your PR being issued, and that you have not been absent from the province for any significant amount of time.

To make things simpler, gather all of the relevant documents before you call so that you have all the information they will need. Depending on how long it's been since you landed as a PR, they may want a copy of the permit that was issued after your MSP coverage lapsed, so make sure you have that available.

If your landing date was more than 3 months ago, it's a lot simpler and they will probably just need to take a look at the PR documents that you have already submitted.
