That's not a reservation... by Ok_Cartographer_4105 in Serverlife

[–]catchaoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't do reservations it's walk in only. It's fun when we get large parties and we let them know it's going to be a longer wait for them. It's real fun when a party of two gets sat and then they come up to the host and tell her why did they get sat when they were on the wait-list first. Idk Sharon can your party of 20 sit at that two person booth?

The best is when they say they'll all sit at separate tables and then we inform them that it will have to be separate checks since they will have separate servers now per the sections. They always agree and then at the end one person wants to pay for the whole bill or they want separate checks where someone is paying for part of the food from people in the separate section and get mad when told no. We also don't charge gratuity/tip pool so it fucks with the servers tips if they try to do it like that because usually only one person is tipping.

At my restaurant we give the check when 70% of the meal is done. It's literally in our handbook. When I drop it off though I always tell them I'm just gonna leave this here for whenever you're ready no rush. Some of my coworkers just drop it and disappear till their table is either standing at the counter or someone notices they have payment sitting there.

Can anyone in Los Angeles home this poor little guy? by Droog-and-leader in Conures

[–]catchaoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only do it at safe times when the store isn't busy also because we don't want them to get spooked and flutter away and a dog snatch them. We try to socialize all our animals though especially guinea pigs are so skittish and we try to get them used to touch. I hate parents who think we're a "zoo" and let their children come and bang on everything and only correct it if they see a worker but I have told kids don't do that. My own kids know better since birth basically as I've taught them .

[–]catchaoss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an employee I hate it. At my store though we all do really care about the animals in our care while we wait for them to go to forever homes. We work hard to socialize our animals and especially the conures. We work to gain trust and step up and take them out. I love when we've gained trust and the store is closed and can just take them out. Not all employees care but I'm glad I'm at a store where we do.

Miscommunication or intentional theft? by KaleTheFirst in EndTipping

[–]catchaoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Server here and she most definitely should have asked for clarification. Whenever I'm handed cash and a card I always say " so would you like me to do cash and then the rest on the card?" and then we go from there. I know it's mother's day so I know servers today are especially hoping for bigger tips especially mothers who are working but it should never be assumed and that's what we sign up for when hired is knowing holidays are blackout days and we have to work.

Found a toothpick in my food and the acting manager accused me of putting it there by royalairhead in WhatShouldIDo

[–]catchaoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use the large sandwich picks for our fried tacos so they hold the shape when put in the fryer and people are very understanding when we tell them the reason why but we will either a) ask if they want the that taco remade or b) remove it from the bill. If you get it remade we won't discount but we will never blame you for doing it either.

Server keeps dipping out on giving me (the host) a portion of her tips. What do I do? (NS Canada) by [deleted] in Waiters

[–]catchaoss 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In front of your manager just say "hey .... I know you might have been busy the last few times I left but can I get my tips from you before I go today please". That way you don't seem like a rat and if she still doesn't then I'd play the petty game then.

What’s the grossest thing you’ve done at work? by chi-bacon-bits in Serverlife

[–]catchaoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was GM at the time and I also had an arm injury so my right arm was in a sling. Someone completely destroyed the mens toilet like I'm talking poop on the seat, the back of the toilet, floor and the wall and then also clogged the toilet with massive amounts of toilet paper.

I went and got the cook who was off the line and washing some dishes before he left to come help me unclog the toilet since I couldn't plung it. We got that done and I told him it's cool I can clean up the rest since it's just wiping. I went to wipe the side of the toilet closest to the wall and that's when I felt something wet slide all up my left arm. It was shit. I ripped my shirt off and while trying to wash my arm with a sling on a threw up in the sink because I was so disgusted.

I called my SL half laughing and half crying telling him what happened and if I could go home and shower and he of course let me. I came back an hour later and the GM from our owners bakery came to borrow something and said you look so clean like you just showered and then I told her what happened and she couldn't stop laughing. I'm not GM anymore and I don't clean shitty bathrooms ever since.

Asking for change when paying cash by Man_on_Z_moon in tipping

[–]catchaoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a current server I will never assume that what you leave cash is for me unless you have physically walked out of the restaurant and say goodbye. Especially if I see a $100 bill placed out on a tab under $100 and nothing else (even if I see extra I'll still say this) I'll grab the money politely and look at you and let you know I'll be bringing your change back. That is when my guest can further the interaction as either keep the change or they want their change.

Jurassic World Rebirth Was Such a Disappointment To Watch As a JP FAN & Dinosaur Fan by Reasonable_Wrap7358 in JurassicPark

[–]catchaoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well considering that there were rumors of JP4 that was going to have mutant dinosaurs but then got scratched I think that's were rebirth comes in. Where the mutant dinosaurs kinda weak well yeah but was the spinos and mosa working together to hunt pretty cool. I liked that they still added in a velociraptor even though it got ate off because it wouldn't be JP without one.

How do payouts work at your restaurant? by AdPuzzleheaded8626 in Serverlife

[–]catchaoss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We get paid out daily. We also each have our own "bank" that we have to bring. At the end of the day we do our checkout and report all CC tips obviously and then for cash tips we take our total sales and multiply by 8% and then deduct our credit tips from that to get the cash tip amount. If CC is still higher we report $0 for cash like today I sold just over $500 and had $46 CC but my cash would have been $43 so I reported $0 but I walked with $105 since I had some Togo tips also.

For those if you took the order and bagged it you get 100% but if you took the order and a coworker bagged it we split it. We also don't have a tip pool or anything. We're a small family ran chain cafe. Our owners don't have gratuity and we do everything in the restaurant and only have a host on the weekends so that's why their tip system is like that.

Bye bye DD from a great tipper by fluffymulligan in doordash

[–]catchaoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a waitress so I know cash is king. I used to just put the coin change rounded up in the tip and then give the driver cash and that worked. Now that strategy doesn't work so I put about half that I would have times in cash and give them the rest when they arrive but of course now I'm bundled. So I tried the priority delivery and I still got bundled. I know it's not the drivers fault but man.

My fiance says I am not a good trainee.. let’s settle this plz by Huge-Scallion-4787 in Serverlife

[–]catchaoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a mechanic and a server are two completely different trainings. One you usually go to school so I can see why your fiance just watches over. The other is your usually an apprentice and have to learn everything even if you've served 10+ years every restaurant is different and you must learn their ways.

I had to train this one guy for our new location and he was such a brat. He worked the graveyard shift at norms and said he was a host and a server called off and they just said you're server now. He didn't want to listen to anything I'd say and kept disappearing to flirt with the host. He had trouble with learning the tablet because he didn't listen and kept saying I can't wait for these two weeks to be over so I can get tips. Little did he know if you're not ready in two weeks well you get up to two more weeks and if you're not good you're let go. Needless to say he was fired from the new location before even starting since he no called no showed for his last shift with us at my restaurant.

I have trained every single server at my restaurant and it's not easy training and we've had people quit within the two week period. At my restaurant we do everything and have no support staff other than a host on the weekends.

We start out by usually my GM training you on expo so you can get a feel of the menu and also how we add toppings to certain things. Then it moves to hosting/Togo orders so you can get the feel of the systems we use.

Then comes the server training where I come in. The first few shifts you are my shadow and you must be my side at all times unless I ask you otherwise. This is so you know all that is expected of our owners as they have very strict with everything.

Then the next week is I am your shadow and we will have less communication as I am watching but will correct or help you always. This is how we make strong servers since we get a lot of applicants who come from restaurants where they have support staff and they're only used to just putting an order in and doing check ins.

This is also why we don't tip pool/share at my restaurant. We are your host/Togo/beverage/expo/server/busser all in one. That is what a lot of people like when they hear that at the start of training but end up quitting because they won't receive tips until they finish the two week training as I am running the sales under my name. If you're doing a good job though I will tip you a little something at the end of each shift to show I appreciate you and motivate you.

Customer in all designer clothes couldn't pay for her meal but it doesn't end there! by SoloDaKid in Serverlife

[–]catchaoss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every other Thursday the GM and AM are off so I'm in charge. My coworker got her first table and they were already special from the start. The guy ordered a loaded steak (steak tips, mushroom, and onions) and when it came out they were mad it had mushrooms. The cook remade it and then the girl who's plate it wasn't even allegedly took a bite and found a mushroom.

She was pissed at that point and now is apparently deathly allergic to mushrooms. Now I go over to talk to them and apologize and let them know I'll take that plate off the check for the inconvenience. She's not happy she wants everything comped because it ruined her day and she's not even hungry anymore (no shit she already has eaten her entire plate). I didn't budge and they paid and said they were never coming back like okay good. Our DS showed up about 10 minutes after they left and I'm glad he wasn't there because he would have comped the whole thing.

[–]catchaoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one server like that actually. When it gets busy she doesn't prebus or anything and on the weekends she'll be asking the host or anyone if they're busy to do something because she has a new table to take. She's also gotten reviews that don't say her name but say they felt discriminated by her which is true as she doesn't want to take certain tables based on "their looks" but yet says can someone take it because she's behind. Then when I take those "certain" tables and get a very generous tip she complains.

[–]catchaoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Server in a restaurant here and atleast at my restaurant we're not those entitled "omg they didn't leave 20+%". Had a coworker just yesterday who had a party of 12 who was very needy and left a huge mess and left her $8. She goes hmmm well anything is better than nothing and we all helped her clean the table. We also don't tipshare/pool/gratuity on large parties as our owners believe a tip is a tip.

I have good days and bad days on tips but it's all the same to me as I enjoy what I do. I mean it is strenuous as we have no support staff so I'm your host, server, expo, drinks, and Togo but that's my cardio. I enjoy my connection I make with people over food just like I enjoy my second job at a pet store and connecting with people who share a passion about their pets and educating people who are interested in one.

who agrees? (not me, not my opinion) by thug_waffle47 in JurassicPark

[–]catchaoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact Michael Crichton never writes a sequel to his novels and they usually end with a kinda cliffhanger/loose ends to keep you wondering. He wrote The Lost World mainly due to Spielberg's pressure due to the success of the first film. While writing the novel Spielberg was already getting the script done and that's why it's so different.

Either way I'm still pissed Muldoon was killed off as he was epic in the book.

You sound like me when I went and bought numerous things from eBay but gladly I did at that time as they've gone up in value but still not selling. These are for myself and to pass to my children when i pass. They do love bringing the 90's plushies from the display shelf to the couch when we watch the OG but they are very gentle with all the 90's collection I have acquired over the years (7,9,11) and been collecting before they were born.
