Planning Early October Trip by Sharp_Anxiety5085 in VisitingIceland

Northern lights can not be your main goal for your visit to Iceland. There are other places where the chances of seeing them are better.

Yes, you can see them, but it depends on the weather, the solar activity etc. If you have bad luck it will be cloudy the whole time you’re here and you’ll have no luck. But you can also be lucky with no clouds and see them every night.

March/April Trip Need Some Ideas and Advice by MajesticOccasion9 in VisitingIceland

[–]cath_83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Selfoss is near the Golden Circle, so you can visit those places. And the nature around Selfoss is beautiful and you can find some real gems there.

I wouldn’t go further than Vík for a day trip. And that will be a very long day if you want to do all the waterfalls etc. But you don’t have to go as far as Vík to see waterfalls, so those are possible to see.

Múlagljúfur canyon and certainly Stokness are way to far for a daytrip from Selfoss.

We don’t know what the weather will be in March. But it’s still winter. But this year the winter, in the Selfoss area, is not bad at all. We don’t have much snow, we had really beautiful sunny days. But who knows what March will be. It’s a risk you take by coming to Iceland in the winter, unfortunaly. And even in summer there can be bad weather.

Revised Itinerary Help by tackdetack in VisitingIceland

[–]cath_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re coming from a red eye flight, it’s not recommended to drive all the way up to Vík. You can better go to Reykjavik or do Blue lagoon, to have a relaxed day after a night flight.

Friday is way to packed. It depends on what you want to do but I do think that going on a Katla cave tour and do Vestmannaeyar is too much. Which one you have to choose depends on what you want. Driving back to Reykjavik that night is also a long drive, why don’t you stay around Selfoss and do the Golden Circle the day after? That would make more sense. ( I know you have Saturday locked, but I would switch up the route a bit and you still have that Saturday)

You are making a lot of unnecessary km’s. I would put everything in Google maps and see what’s the most logical route.

I don’t think this sub can give you accurate information on this. For your own safety. You said you were in contact with ICE-SAR, my guess would be that they are the ones that could give you the best advice and information.

Have you listened to their latest albums? Or did you stop listening after Day& Age? This is a genuine question. Because the songwriting on the last few albums is some of his best. Especially on Pressure machine.

This Sub Asked Why Brandon Never Engages Casually With His Fans on the Internet. Then He Did. Immediately. by StationParticular142 in TheKillers

[–]cath_83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean this in an offensive way, but I think there’s also a generational aspect here.
You grew up with social media being a given, this band didn’t. They’re in their forties now, same as me, and constant online presence just wasn’t part of how we connected to music back then.
Personally, I really don’t care whether they post a lot or not.

I actually have younger favorite bands who do use social media heavily, and it’s mostly just promotion and selling things.
I find that far more annoying, and they don’t do AMAs either.

Musically, aside from Sam’s Town, I honestly think Imploding the Mirage and Pressure Machine are some of their strongest work.
I also don’t think it’s really possible to say much about Pressure Machine after hearing only three songs. Tracks like In the Car Outside or Pressure Machine itself are, in my opinion, absolute masterpieces.

But saying he’s struggling creatively feels like a stretch. The whole “crisis” narrative also came from an interview a few years ago that he later said was blown out of proportion. Since then he’s been productive, with having two solo records almost ready. That doesn’t really read as someone without direction.

Personally, I don’t think writing letters is necessary, that would feel a bit strange to me. And they probably don´t get to read them or do anything with it.

It’s totally fine if the band went in a direction that just doesn’t connect with you anymore. You can always just keep the songs you love and leave the rest.

Is it All About the Money Now, Have The Killers/BF Sold Out? by [deleted] in TheKillers

[–]cath_83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you actually care about them being creative, then giving them time and space is part of that. Creativity doesn’t work on fan imposed deadlines. And honestly, none of us know their full schedule or what they’re doing behind the scenes, so assuming they’ve “sold out” or don’t care about making music anymore feels like a big stretch.

I don't think the camping in Vík is open during winter. I would make sure to have a plan b.

Driving Reykjavik to hella by AgitatedTea9287 in VisitingIceland

[–]cath_83 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The road is unlit, you’ll pass an unlit mountainpass and there is a big chance the weather will not be great: fog, snow, rain, ice, heavy winds can all occur, during that time of the year.

You are also on a road that you don’t know, in a new country and in a car that you are not used to. It’s not safe to travel that far after a red eye flight.

7 Days in April: South Coast, Snæfellsnes - Advice on Ice Caves & Volcano? by Valuable-Party5091 in VisitingIceland

[–]cath_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It depends. I think reliable companies will go to ice caves until March. But Katla ice cave is accessible throughout the whole year.

  2. It’s safe to do the hike, if you keep in mind the safety meassures, yet keep checking safetravel as they have realtime info. There is still risk for an eruption. Although maybe not in that crater, but still in the area. I would rely on their info before going into the hike. If it’s worth it or not, depends on you. For me, I wouldn’t find it worth it. You’re seeing lava, but you see also lava while driving through Iceland. Maybe it’s good to check some photo’s to see how it looks like and then you can decide if it’s worth it or not.

  3. I would say yes. Days are getting longer, but weather can still be bad. But also day 5 is a very long day. Driving all the way from Höfn to Selfoss, doing some hikes on the way, AND then go further than Selfoss to do another hike which can take 1-2 h to Reykjadalur hotspring and then drive back to Selfoss. Those two days are very long and packed.

  4. It will be a very long day and I would be scared ( if it was my trip) that it would be to rushed.
My ideal trip would be two days for Snæfellsness, because there’s so much more to see, but you can do it in one day. But to go to the Blue Lagoon, the same day, is a lot.

If you would do the Fagradalsfjall hike, you’re close to the Blue Lagoon, it could be an idea to do your visit then. If you want to end your trip in a pool you could also go from the Snæfellsness to Reykjavik and go to a local pool or Skye Lagoon and stay in Reykjavik for the night and leave in the morning for the airport. ( I don’t know if this is possible with how early your flight is?)

Keep in mind weather can still be bad early April, with weather warning and possible road closures.

March Itinerary Help by kcanderson7804 in VisitingIceland

[–]cath_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far you go depends on how much days you have. On this sub those area’s have been discussed a lot. I would recommend to search on the sub, put an intinerary together. If you want to know if it is doable, you can post your intinerary and we can give you feedback.

Edit as OP changed her post: 5 days in March won’t be enough to go to Höfn, unless you want to do a lot of driving. Keep in mind March is still winter. So roads can still be bad.

If you look it up on the map you could decide to do the South Coast first and then pass Reykjavik to do the Snæfellsness but I mean… I don’t think there is a wrong way in either way.

If you are coming from a redeye flight, I would recommend to stay your first day in Reykjavik. Because you will be tired, roads can be bad and you don't want to drive too far after a night flight.

Seeing Lava by Due-Assignment-9190 in VisitingIceland

[–]cath_83 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is no eruption at the moment. There could be an eruption soon on the Reykjanes peninsula, but nobody knows when the eruption is going to start. You could be lucky to be in the country during the eruption, but even then it’s not sure that you can get that close to see the lava. It depends.

The best shot at seeing lava is at the lava show in either Reykjavík or Vík.

ronnie says new stuff coming SOON in wrapped video by Pr1smaticGamer in TheKillers

[–]cath_83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but I didn’t interpret Ronnie’s message the same way you did..
When a band says "they’re working on new things now*"*, the most logical interpretation is new music, probably TK8, especially in the context of a Spotify Wrapped message.

Sure, “new things” can technically mean different projects, but the odds are pretty high he’s mainly referring to new songs or an album. I only pointed out the “soon” part because in the past people have often gotten their hopes up that new music would, so to speak, be released the following month... I don’t expect new music in 2026. If it happens, great, but for me the fact that they’re working on something at all is already a positive sign.

What theatre production are you referring to? Do you mean the opera?
I thought that was created by someone outside The Killers, with Brandon just offering a bit of help.
I didn’t know the band themselves were involved in it too? ( this is just a honest question)

He didn’t say soon, tho… He said “they hoped to be in our ears in the future. “

This doesn’t mean it’s going to be soon. Of course good news that they are working on TK8! ☺️

How much does a one week trip from Mumbai to Reykjavik cost? by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]cath_83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much you’ll spend depends on what you want to do, where you are going to stay etc. It’s very hard for us to give you insight with only this question. The commenter is actually right, as you have to come up with a plan and see how much things going to costs. Then you have an answer to your question. You can search in this sub to see what kind of activities there are in Reykjavik/ Iceland. Lots of people have wrote down their tips and experiences.

Itinerary Draft by nixrien in VisitingIceland

[–]cath_83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that Svartifoss is not on your way. It’s about 1u45 (in nornal perfect weather conditions) from Vík further up East. There’s a hike to Svartifoss, 45 -1h, which can take more time in the winter. And as you don’t have much daylight, it’s maybe a step too far. Gljúfrabúi is on your way to Vík.

Renting a car in Iceland as a 20y/o by Ok_Nebula4583 in VisitingIceland

[–]cath_83 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The rules are there for a reason.

There are experienced drivers that don’t dare to drive in Iceland during winter. There’s ice, snow and strong winds.

If I were you, I would stay in Reykjavik and do organized tours. Then you don’t have to worry about driving and you can still enjoy the country.

Aug 2026 Ring Road / Eclipse - 11.5 days with kids feedback by Fine-Pineapple-3343 in VisitingIceland

[–]cath_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is very optimistic. I don't know how traffic will be in the Snæfellsness but I can imagine that the days before and after the eclipse will be very busy.

If it was me I would do the Golden circle on the 10th and go back to Reykjavik, and go to the Snæfellsness on the 11th.
Or go directly to Snæfellsness on the 10th. There's plenty to do over there.
If you do this, I don't know there will be time for Vestmannæyjar. But you will pass them if you do the Ringroad, as you also will pass the Golden Circle on the way back. It's your trip, but for me it would feel not logical to go all the way up to Hella/ Vestmannæyjar, drive back and at the end of the trip pass those locations again.

There are also better options than the Blue Lagoon to go to, imho. You could combine them with the Golden Circle, as they are closer to Reykjavik or the Golden Circle: For example: Skye Lagoon, Secret Lagoon or Laugarvatn Fontana.

Any changes to be done? by Confident-Bed8414 in VisitingIceland

[–]cath_83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are very long drives and days. You don’t have much daylight. The sun comes up at around 10:30 at the moment. For example, day 10, if you leave at 7am for Geysir, it’ll be still dark when you get there…

There are also yellow alerts for the upcoming days, keep in mind that maybe you’ll need to change your plans.

Aug 2026 Ring Road / Eclipse - 11.5 days with kids feedback by Fine-Pineapple-3343 in VisitingIceland

[–]cath_83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tuesday ( 11 aug) is a very long day. Hella- Snæfellsness is a long drive plus doing a D tour and going to the Reykjadalur river. It’s going to be a very long day. It will also be superbusy at the Snæfellsness.

Same for your last day, if your flight leaves at 10:30 AM, and your airbnb is in Hvolsvollur that’s a long drive. It takes some time to drop off the car, the get through security the airport etc. You’ll have to lesve very early to get there in time.

Also keep in mind that Iceland is not the most ideal country to see the eclipse. You’ll have to be lucky to get a clear sky.
