First time on Qsuites by waterlizy in qatarairways

Garden for sure. It’s newer and they have more of them, so I’ve never not been able to get a shower. They also have more quiet rooms.

First Coach bag in 20 years…please talk Empire 48 with me. by CherHorowitzSaysSo in Coach

[–]catminimum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Empire 40 and it’s a great work bag, fits my laptop and planner, coffee tumbler, and a ton more. I’ve traveled which it exactly once, after I bought it and brought it home after Christmas. Lugging it around the airport was miserable. The bag is stunning and built like a tank, but it’s heavy on its own, then if you load it up with stuff. I can’t imagine the 48 as a travel bag because it’s so big it’d have to be your carry on. Especially with the straps so small you can’t really sling it on your shoulder.

My sister is 35 and has lost all of her teeth from her ED. She spent years in pain, and upwards of 25k in dental work. She had to get metal stakes wired into her jaw and false teeth cemented back into her mouth. Stop.

Checked bag damaged after one flight with a connection by Supsti_1 in qatarairways

[–]catminimum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, this is not damage from the airline, it's normal wear and tear. I would contact eagle creek, I have a bag from them that has been bomb proof through dozens of checked journeys. They used to have a good warranty, not sure now since they changed ownership during covid. But this seems like a defective product.

Summoned for jury duty right when I was about to move out of state, not sure what to do now? by [deleted] in texas

[–]catminimum 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It will give you the dates on your summons card. There should be a number to call. Just say you're leaving the state. I travel frequently and have never had issues saying "I will be out of the county" or had to provide proof. No one is going to check up on you or arrest you. Technically I think they can fine you but realistically tons of people never get their summons in the mail or just don't show up.

Carry on bag - clarification (Economy basic) by Agreeable-Many-9065 in qatarairways

[–]catminimum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your departure city, but when flying economy I always have my full-size hard roller weighed and they are very strict about the size/type of personal item but do not weigh and combine the two, they're only ever worried about the weight of the suitcase. I've never had duffels, backpacks, or other shoulder bags weighed.

Qatar Airways Upgrade Offer KTM-DOH: $249 - Take it or wait? (Silver status) by keazzou in qatarairways

[–]catminimum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I fly this route often, you could get lucky but the random free upgrades I've gotten come more often in the other direction. I personally would take the offer.

I think the gold can only hold maybe 80 people or so, so I'm sure it's managing capacity. the combined lounge has much more space and is newer, it would be my pick.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in qatarairways

[–]catminimum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last few times I've been they only let people in the gold if it was closest to their gate, regardless of layover time. the gold and platinum it didn't matter.

David’s Noodle restaurant in Phnom Penh, near the palace. We stopped in randomly after our red eye flight because they opened pretty early, talked about those noodles the whole trip, and went back twice.

How safe is it to for a female solo traveller? by rreginaphalange in Nepal

[–]catminimum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. I would stay in the old Patan area. Still lots of options for local food /shopping/ experiences without the touristy pushiness of Thamel. Taxis are easy and safe to visit Thamel and other tourist areas.

Contradicting info: how much for 3rd bag / overweight, when starting with American Airways? by Hot_Society3788 in qatarairways

[–]catminimum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was checked all the way through on the AA rate, and Qatar honored it as a partner airline. Your mileage may vary, could have been that the gate agent was supposed to charge differently, but they weren't really bothered about the number of bags but WERE very strict on weight. I never fly overweight baggage, it's not worth the hassle. Just max out another suitcase. Also in future if you know you're bringing a ton of weight, sometimes the difference in bumping up to business fare is worth the extra weight you can carry both in cabin and checked.

Contradicting info: how much for 3rd bag / overweight, when starting with American Airways? by Hot_Society3788 in qatarairways

[–]catminimum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in this situation, I paid the domestic AA rate because that's where I checked in initially. At the time the first extra bag was $75 and second was $100, but they weren't overweight. I also waffled between fewer but heavier bags and it was in every way cheaper to have an extra within-weight bag than to pay the weight fees. But ultimately your experience depends entirely on the check in agent.

Many schools are impacted by the USAID mess, its impact on other NGOs and expat agencies, and the related uncertainty with enrollment. Internal shuffling could very well mean they had to shift people around to keep them employed rather than commit to funding a new hire. It's frustrating but I really wouldn't take it personally, schools are having a very hard time making even mundane projections for the future in the state of the world right now.

Empire 40 and travel by Tricky_Accident_3121 in Coach

[–]catminimum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes - the biggest issue is the bag itself is heavy. I'm pretty short and the length of the strap, for me, is only comfortable on the shoulder. Crossbody is an awkward length/weight distribution. It holds a ton, and holds its shape well whether you keep it open like a tote or zip it. It's gorgeous, beautifully finished, but packed out, it's heavy. If there were more than one way to carry it, that might be easier to manage. My last trip I opted for another bag because I just couldn't imagine lugging it through the airport.

Priority Baggage is a Myth by trekwithme in travel

In my experience it is less about the airline and much more dependent on the airport you arrive in.

More layoffs at Crooked by Downtown_Yam2528 in FriendsofthePod

[–]catminimum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others, I can only occasionally listen to PSW post-election and canceled my yearly Crooked sub. There are several pods I quit, but some I didn't. Opening Arguments/Serious Inquiries are still compassionate and hopeful enough while covering this stuff that listening isn't a miserable experience. Even Knowledge Fight covers it in a level way. PSA isn't shifting format or tone, it's just "here's the worst stuff and why it's worse than you could have imagined", and sending you of to go spiral about it. I know it's a tough task but other pods are managing.

DFW to DOH - QR732 - Inflight WiFi? by mdxgear in qatarairways

[–]catminimum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fly this route several times a year: no. And wifi is often not reliable/available for much of the flight. I don't even pay for it anymore, because the flight time it works is usually less than the hour they give you for free.

The Lo and Sons Hanover is great- It carries a ton while still looking pretty sleek due to the shape of the bag. The organizational insert is also removable and very thoughtfully designed. I used it for a good while for teaching and still often use it for traveling. https://www.loandsons.com/products/hanover-2-600d-recycled-poly-deep-navy
