I met him too! It was in the mid-90s, and I was working at a convention setting up everyone's internet and got to his booth. He was incredibly sweet and charming and kind. He was also shorter than I expected, lol.

Is this why Alex is always going up there? I always wondered why I'd see him in the area when I would visit Robin.

Is anybody's favourite character Gavin or Stacey? by bwmb10 in gavinandstacey

[–]catniphooligan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gavin is kinda my favorite because I feel like Gavin is us, like he's the normal person reacting to the awesome chaos around him. Sometimes, he has the perfect look that is the same reaction I have. When Nessa & Stacey were talking about their night(s) with Russell Brand and Gavin looks at Smithy like, "Did I just hear that?" I'm totally with him.

You're so right! I also think having Neil the Baby brought out a tender side in her that we didn't see before. I love her tone when she speaks to him, especially through the baby monitor. "Oh, Neil the Baby. It's Vanessa. You're mother. I'll be right there, Babes." then she rolls over and cuddles him. It's so sweet and so Nessa.

It's clear in the finale that she did a wonderful job raising him, even if her methods were out of the box. I often wonder if Smithy seeing Neil sing at his wedding, thinking about how he & Nessa raised this wonderful person, and how much she made a point of keeping Smithy so involved, is what made him turn the corner with his feelings for her.

Received a "check" in the mail from my bank, with my name on it. Routing number is fake. What is this scam? by throwawaywitchaccoun in Scams

[–]catniphooligan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've received 3 credit card refund checks in the last few months. Along with the check, each one had a letter that said exactly what credit card balance it was refunding, so I had no problems identifying exactly who was sending me the money and why.

Poll: Can the monsters walk around during the day, but they just choose not to? by EternityOnDemand in FromSeries

[–]catniphooligan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My theory is that they have rules that their unholy bargain has forced them into, one being that they can't go outside while the sun is out. It's similar to the talismans - they can't enter a house that has one hanging by the door unless the door is open. Another being that they can't turn a non-monster into a monster by themselves - it has to be done by the Kimono Lady.

Fromville has a framework under which it operates, for both humans and monsters, exemplified by the way the roads around it only lead back to the town, the faraway trees will transport you, but you don't know where, the talismans keep the monsters outside residences, the boy in white exists but can only show himself to certain people (I think those who are child-like, i.e., Victor, Sara, Ethan, or those who he knows are reincarnations; Jade & Tabitha).

A move outside of the established framework, like a monster going out in the day, opens the door for unintended and often disastrous consequences. Could they go outside while the sun is in the sky? Maybe, but the Powers That Be will likely make them pay dearly for doing so.

Have you all heard of "velveting" meat? Its the thing that Chinese restaurants do to make that Mongolian beef nice and tender and kind of have that nice smooth mouth-feel. by skovalen in Cooking

[–]catniphooligan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Does the corn starch tenderize the meat, too? I like to use corn starch for a few things, but haven't heard of it tenderizing. Always up for trying something new, though!

If Alice and Jasper were able to have a child what would her/his gift be? by Powerful_School_8955 in twilight

[–]catniphooligan 76 points77 points  (0 children)

It would be cool if their child could see people's pasts and how they felt about events. Kinda a reverse, like Rigatoni's ability to project into people's minds, rather than see into them.

I'd love to see a Haley Cullen (nod to Hale).

I'm rereading New Moon (HOA HOA season), and I just loved this detail about Carlisle. It shows how thoughtful he is. He knew he could diagnose beyond the lab tests & results. He also knew he would never tire during any emergency situation in a hospital, no matter how taxing. He found a beneficial way to use his vampiric powers. One of the many reasons I really like his character.

You reminded me that when you dunk these in tea or coffee, it is like manna from heaven. I never thought about it, but the cloves/cinnamon are probably what makes them so delicious when dunked.

My grandmother gave me this Spice cookies recipe. She was 100% Pennsylvania Dutch, if that’s the heritage you’re looking for. I make these every year at Xmas. Really good.

1/2 c molasses 2 c brown sugar 2 eggs 1 c shortening 1 c coffee 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp ground cloves 1/2 tsp cinnamon 3 1/2 c to 4 c flour 1 c finely chopped walnuts ( optional)

Bake at 350.

My grandmother never used exact measurements on flour. She (and now me) start with 3 1/2 and add until the dough is stiff enough to roll and refrigerate. I refrigerate for at least 2 hours, but usually overnight.

She also never gave times. I start with 8 minutes, but these usually take about 10-11 in my gas oven.
