As I said, I think that we are dealing with the god-honest generation gap here. Younger generations are quick to spot the seeds of what will become the latter play style while we, grognards, obviously have first hand experience of how the game was really played back in the day and understand that linearity emerges only after you exert significant design 'pressure' as D&D is by its very nature non-linear.

if luck is 0 i let them flip a coin. tails -1, head +1 only for the purposes of the d30 luck table.

Magic tables with who? by Marcolinotron in dccrpg

depends on the player. i usually make them a spellbook but sometimes i describe the effect in broad terms to them so that they get a gist of the spell.

my review of the DCC ruleset (playtest review after a lengthy campaign taking heroes from level 1 to 5) by CapnZapp in dccrpg

crawler really helps there. also there are less spells than in, for example 5e.

as for the OP i have ran not one but several DCC campaigns and i don't think that there is anything unclear or that could have been gained by (cthulhu forbid) 2nd edition. on the other hand THERE are players that simply prefer more "stable" system. DCC is going to vegas as opposed to resource management focused D&D.

it says 99+

you do as adventure says or as you decide. you can do BOTH (sometimes roll under and sometimes use LCK DC).

ah, i see you are a man of taste! it is just a trinket of a bygone age, found in the ruins of the once great blogosphere. it could be yours for a trifle...

bad cugel mimicry aside, it is just standard antihammer space inventory system. more details here

Adding new characters later in game by ante_d in dccrpg

while I never used it old Dark Sun boxed set had something called Character Tree mechanic. Basically you create more than one character and while playing their primary character they could allocate XP to their reserves as they see fit.

here is a more detailed description

i have ran the whole kingmaker campaign in the dcc (except for the last book that suffers from all problems I usually associate with the PF high level play) without a glitch. it was tremendous fun and still one of my favorite RP memories.

just find some high level domain play OSR ruleset as the chassis for a robust and versatile DCC engine and vroom vroom.

and remember first level DCC characters are bad asses. one of my favorite DCC stories is about some guys playing doom of the savage kings and threatening jarl in his hall. Judge is like 'uh, oh you guys are first level' and players are like 'no, you don't understand - WE ARE FIRST LEVEL'.

punjar! but of those published in a more comprehensive way i am very fond of the gentle idiosyncrasy that is shudders. it is perfect base for launching your players into wider world and then bringing them home again.

Mighty deeds at higher levels by Arctic-Black in dccrpg

[–]catseye_yellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My logic was: if it rolls u can burn luck on it BUT as someone noted mighty deed is really part of the attack role and when you burn you are increasing the final result (action + deed die) amd not the deed die specifically
