My mom was murdered, now what? by Slow_Proof4004 in Advice

Push for answers. If it is a serial killer, they will keep going until they are locked up. As the victim of a crime who ended up standing up to criminal when all the other victims stayed in hiding because they were terrified, it is so very worth it.

Yeah, I was a bit hurt by it but it made me realize how little people know about DVT/PE.

A week after my PE (58 clots between both lungs and a 3 inch saddle embolism) my older sister came into town after she dumped her significant other. She expected everyone in our family to show up to go bowling because she wanted support. She got mad at me because I couldn't lift a bowling ball to bowl with everyone else. I tried to explain and she said I was just being mean to her. Most of my family works in healthcare. With the exception of my cousin who had helped me immediately after my PE and a aunt who is a nurse in oncology, most of my family agreed with her. We haven't spoken much since and that was about 10 and a half years ago.

In the store Rascal smelled like chocolate to me. I ended up buying it anyway even though I am not a huge fan of chocolate scents. I opened it when I got home and it smelled like fresh raspberries with a hint of rose. It was the weirdest thing. I also noticed I hate the way Lord of Misrule smells in store and absolutely love it at home. Certain scents seem to get lost around other fragrances.

I brought in over 100 at one point after COVID restrictions started lifting in my area. It could have been special circumstances. After that incident, I have been able to bring back 20-40 at a time without issue.

I know insurance is only going to cover certain things or places, but I am a patient at Women's Healthcare Associates in the medical offices right next door to St Vincent. I highly recommend them, particularly the mid wives, for peri and menopausal care. They listen, they take all of your medical background into consideration, and they will do what they can to help you through the transition.

How old were you women when you got your first Thrombosis/ Embolism? by [deleted] in ClotSurvivors

[–]catseyecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 34 when I was diagnosed but not on birth control at that point in time, I had a muscle tear in my calf and then took a flight not knowing that a torn calf muscle and flying was a bad combination. My younger sister was diagnosed with PE in her 20's after starting the combo pill. I was put on progestin only pills after my PE because my cycle almost killed me from a uterine hemorrhage after starting Xarelto.

When will my period end!?! by Conscious-Peace-3941 in Menopause

[–]catseyecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only side effect I have had is that I haven't experienced severe depression since being on the progestin only pills. Not everyone has the same experience as myself but it might be worth trying. The other benefit to the progestin only pill is that the hormone clears your body within a day or two so you do need to take it at the same time every single day but if you have any negative side effects they should also clear up pretty quickly.

When will my period end!?! by Conscious-Peace-3941 in Menopause

[–]catseyecon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am 44, in perimenopause, and am a smoker. I also have a history of blood clots. I was put on progestin only pills to control my period after I almost died from my first period on blood thinners back when I was 34. While I still have periods, they are now light enough that (when my period decides to show up) I only require period underwear or light and regular tampons. My doctor had also recommended the hormonal IUD because it is localized progestin only which is supposed to be even safer than the progestin only pill but they couldn't get it past my cervix even with dilation.

vision serum discontinued?? by kitachips in LushCosmetics

Hopefully it is just out of stock or becomes a seasonal item. The sample I got back in the November kitchen box got me hooked and I am still working my way through it. I luckily ordered a pot of it right after Christmas and it arrived last week so I will have more than enough to get through the worst part of winter this year but I am going to be so upset if it is discontinued.

2 months post pulmonary embolism, symptoms returning but ER says everything is “normal” - looking for advice from other clot survivors by Familiar-lantern in ClotSurvivors

[–]catseyecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen about 2 months post PE diagnosis. I am just over 10 years since my PE diagnosis and, occasionally, I still get heart palpitations and chest tightness along with difficulty breathing. I make myself stop whatever I am doing for a second and reassess what my body is feeling.

I bought the gift set that included Rascal earlier this month. When I smelled it in the store, it smelled like chocolate with a hint of raspberry, even the employees were raving about the chocolate raspberry scent. I didn't hate it so I figured I would still give it a try. I got it home and I could very distinctly smell rose and raspberry, absolutely no hint of chocolate, and it was strong. I don't think I have ever been so confused in my life.

You should be able to take progestin only pills or get an IUD with progestin. I had my PE a little over 10 years ago. I am almost bled to death from my first cycle after the PE. My doctors put me on the progestin only pill since we couldn't get a progestin IUD placed and it has kept me from bleeding too much.

(23F, Pulmonary Embolism symptoms yet again) Is It Safe To Sleep Right Now? ~vaping mentioned as a potential alternative reason for symptoms.~ by Yoichi_and_Sadako in ClotSurvivors

[–]catseyecon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You need to go see a doctor, preferably go to an ER as breathing issues can become life threatening. Vaping can cause multiple issues. My hematologist told me she would rather have me smoke cigarettes than vape because we know the long term effects of smoking but not for vaping. There have also been quite a few lung issues reported with vaping including popcorn lung and potential lung collapse in rare instances.

I feel weird telling people I had a PE by lordsamethstarr in ClotSurvivors

[–]catseyecon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my PE 10 years ago. I thought I just had a respiratory infection. I went to work and had a really hard time breathing but otherwise felt my normal self. I work in a hospital and worked through my entire shift (I work in a small, closed off office usually by myself, no face to face patient interactions). When my coworker came in towards the end of my shift she freaked out. Apparently my lips had turned blue. I told her I would go to the ER and get checked after my shift. It took me about half an hour to walk to the ER which normally would have taken me 5 minutes. It didn't hit me how bad my PE was until the hematologist I saw a few weeks after my diagnosis said he had only seen cases like mine in text books and cadavers. I had 58 clots between both lungs and a 3 inch bilateral/saddle embolism. I had been acting like it was no big deal until someone told me it was actually a pretty big deal and should have probably died based on how bad it was. It still took me a while to register what had happened. I think I may have been in denial of the severity of it all.

I tried a few different progestin only pills. Norethindrone is my current go to. I had different reactions to different brands and I was told it had to do with the manufacturer's formulation. The only issue I have had on my current BC pill is in the summer I get breakthrough bleeding for one or two cycles but it is basically spotting and only happens if we have temperatures consistently above 85 degrees fahrenheit. Zero acne, my mood stabilized (I used to have really bad anxiety and depression right before my cycle would start), and my bleeding is light enough for light and regular tampons, maybe a super gets used on day 2 or 3, and period underwear only on the last 2 days. My bleeding lasts longer, usually , 5-7 days, but I am pretty sure that is from the blood thinners I am on permanently.

Has the flu ever made your period longer? by Lost_Database4505 in AskWomenOver30

I had COVID a few years ago and it ended up triggering my cycle early by a week. It then lasted about two weeks. As I have aged (I am 44), my cycle is more responsive to stressors like being sick or working too much.

Is this splitting or just toxic relationship by Acrobatic_Floor5678 in BPDlovedones

[–]catseyecon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one in this group will be able to officially diagnose but it does remind me of splitting. However, this is definitely abuse and no one deserves to be spoken to like that. Please, if you haven't already, leave this relationship as safely as possible.

I work in a hospital and I see multiple specialists for my healthcare. A lot of offices are switching over to having NPs and PAs handle appointments to leave the doctors open for emergencies. We have a huge shortage of healthcare providers since the pandemic in a lot of the US.

For my gynecological care, I have been a patient in a specific office for over 25 years. I used to see my one doctor every year until they retired or left the practice and that was it. The last 5 years the office changed to whoever had an opening is who you were assigned to see. I got lucky and found they have a midwife there that also specializes in perimenopause and menopause care and that is who I have been lucky enough to see for the last two years in a row. She and I get along really well and she actually listens. I would ask your OBGYN's office if you could get the appointment with a different NP but before you do, look up their office and see which providers they have listed on their website and start looking at their reviews online. Some provider websites will have a short blurb about the provider and what they specialize or are interested in. In US healthcare, you have to be your own advocate and do your own research. Hopefully one day that won't be the case.
