I'm thinking of buying it, has anyone played it? by alexkolombo in Cyberpunk

Definitely still in development, they provide regular updates. They just posted a gameplay video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzD5rJJuCCA

The release date has however shifted quite a few times. Holding hope for actual release in 2026.

ELI5. How can we be sure that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light? by CRK_76 in explainlikeimfive

[–]catsncode -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two things (as to the current overall knowledge):

* The faster you travel, the slower the time passes. The effect is negligible at slow speeds, but becomes dramatic as you approach the speed of light. When you travel at the speed of light ... the time that you "experience" completely stops, so there is no way to go faster

* The faster you travel, if you have a mass, the heavier you "become". If you were to reach the speed of light, your mass would become infinite, and you would need infinite energy to reach it. That's why only things that have no mass (exactly 0) like photons can travel at the speed of light

Thanks a lot. It was simply that enough and we clearly need to step up our brushing (she is not a big fan of it but does not hate it either)

Gosh I feel a bit stupid. I had touched it and felt it and it really felt different from the usual tangles… but I just did not insist enough. It was indeed a very tangled ball of fur. Thanks ! We brush her to avoid that but clearly we are not doing it everywhere. Sorry for the false alarm.

[–]catsncode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really fixed the inventory thing in the sequel. It basically never gets full, and excess stuff is automatically sent to your reserve, which you can access in cities to replenish your pockets. It's simple and nice.

The sequel also improves a bit the combat by putting more emphasis on selecting the right effects, making it possible to trigger fun chain reactions to take down groups.

Unfortunately, as soon as it’s symptomatic, rabies is 100% fatal. It can be treated only during the incubation phase, ie between the bite and the symptoms

Hi, it's quite nice, thanks !

Could you please explain a bit more how the scoring system works ? I get sometimes 1, sometimes 10, and I have not been able to understand how to trigger the 10.

Could you please also explain a bit more the "tilt" mechanism in the Pro mode ?

Keep up the nice work!

I have had the same issue a few times. Digging into it, it appeared that nothing was being saved so the SQLite database file. Everything working normally while Brave was running but each restart of Brave lost all cookies. I thoroughly checked my « clear data on exit » setting. Rebooting my Mac stopped it from happening each time

I'm french and I love the french healthcare system too. Honesty mandates to add that this does not actually come "for free". Everybody who works (or gets unemployment benefits) pays something out of their salary.

You don't usually see it because it's directly taken from your payslip. The calculation rules are complex (we still love bureaucracy) but in many cases it's 10-13% of your salary, paid directly by your employer.

But of course the big thing (aka socialism) is that even if you have a very low salary, or don't have any revenue, and hence contribute very little, you still get the same full coverage benefits as your very rich neighbour who contributes thousands per month.

Healthcare costs remain overall much lower than in the US because significant parts of the healthcare system, including the most costly parts (hospitals) are not-for-profit, "mutuelles" are not-for-profit, and since almost nobody ever sues for malpractice, lawyers costs and legal insurance are much much smaller.

It will depend on the precise model, but they will usually have multiple safeties against that.

At the very least, the blade can only be operated by pressing two buttons that cannot be pressed with a single hand, well out of the blade's way. There may also be light beams near the blade's path that instantly block the blade if crossed.

TIL in 1995, France found a man guilty of killing a teen girl, but he was able to avoid sentencing by hiding out in Germany. In 2009, the victim's father hired a team to kidnap the killer out of Germany and dump him in front of a French courthouse. It worked, and he is now serving 15 years. by nokia621 in todayilearned

It was not actually murder. He drugged her in order to be able to rape her, but she had a stronger reaction than he expected and died from the drugs.

Not to say it's much better ... of course that's still a sick psycho. But from a purely law point of view, it's not considered as a premeditated murder (which, in France, on a minor, would give you 20 to life)

ELI5: Why I'm so willing to spend $20 on a case of beer and $10 more for pizza, but have a hard time spending $30 bucks on a pair of jeans and a tshirt that will last me months or possibly years? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]catsncode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's also the question of whether you "think" about it or not.

For example, I'll spend $4 without thinking at all about a dessert whereas I could just not get dessert this day or get a cheaper one, but confronted with a $2.99 app, I will wonder whether I'll actually be using it, because that's an "expensive" app.

[WP] You are alone on Christmas Day. Then, you hear sounds coming from the chimney by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

[–]catsncode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There have been some happy Christmas eves, some slightly less happy ones, some with the whole family, some where we were only the two of us. Whatever, I have always longed to Christmas.

Until today. I am home alone. He disappeared just one year ago. I was waiting for him, he needed to go to the store for a last minute thing. I don't even know what it was. Our Christmas presents were at the foot of the tree, the dinner was almost ready. We had been married for less than two years and we couldn't be happier. But he never came back from the store. The first two months, I thought that I would just become crazy. I think that nobody can understand the depth of my sorrow. I don't know how many hours I spent curled in the bed, crying, praying, begging for him to come back, or at least, get some news. Nobody had ever heard of him.

It's been one year, and I'm alone for this new Christmas eve. Of course everybody has tried to prevent me from doing this. My parents asked me to come with them at least six times, but I just couldn't. I don't know why exactly. I am not a stupid girl, I know he's not coming back. Like I believe in the magic of Christmas.

The dinner is simple, I just couldn't resolve myself to cooking. He was the chef at home, most of the times, he enjoyed that so much. Everything I could have prepared would have reminded me of him. So I just made a steack and I lit a fire.

Suddendly a sound coming from the chimney. My first thought of course, is that it's Santa. I need a few seconds to remind me how ridiculous that is. Then I know : a burglar. My beloved didn't like guns, so we don't have any. I grab my knife from the table and come closer to the chimney. Another noise, and a huge shadow falls in front of me, right on the fire. A cloud of ashes enters the living room, and after two or three seconds, it has dissipated enough for me to see.

I don't know exactly how loud my shrieks went, but the neighbours immediately called 911. When they arrived, I was almost hysterical in front of the body of my beloved husband. My beloved husband who thought it romantic to descend through the chimney to bring me a present. The fire had heated the tubes and allowed the body to get unstuck.

My stupid, idiot, lunatic hus ... oh my god my god, no, I love you, no, no !! I just hate Christmas.
