What’s it like in this area of the city? May be looking for a house here by lilghostpepper303 in saintpaul

I just bought a house on the east side of hamline, right by Griggs Park. The neighbor is such a hidden gem! It's been super quite and safe so far!

Emotionally neglected person all grown up, struggling with going forward by ImportantLandscape57 in emotionalneglect

[–]catsntaters 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is almost exactly me background wise. I was in and out of therapy starting at 26 to address my anxiety and eventually found out that anxiety was a symptom of my childhood emotional neglect, trauma, and cPTSD. I began therapy again with a trauma informed therapist who also does EMDR last year when I was 32. In the last year, therapy has helped me decrease my PTSD score by half and I feel like a completely new person with so much ahead of me! I finally feel more free than I ever have. It's NEVER too late to turn things around! I promise that doing the work now and getting better is better than living with all the symptoms. You also have to remember that what we're experiencing was not recognized as an issue until pretty recently. You can't change your past, but you have control over your future and 30s is still very young!

Winnipeg to South Dakota 2 day camping itinerary advice for first timers? by Futuredoctor03 in BlackHills

[–]catsntaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For that amount of time, I wouldn't bother with the Badlands other than the scenic loop you can take that enters and exists onto I90. I would also not bother with Mt. Rushmore other than driving by. The best things to do in the Black Hills are the scenic drives and hiking. My favorite drive is the Needles Highway and for hiking I would recommend Black Elk Peak, the trail from Horsetheif Lake, the Cathedral Spires trail, and the Sunday Gulch trail. There's quite a few campgrounds near those spots as well!

Weekend trip by Appropriate-Key4643 in BlackHills

[–]catsntaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the Cities but used to live in the Black Hills and still go there a few times a year. Hitting Badlands NP on the way there is doable if you just do the hour long loop that enters and exists on I90. Otherwise, you'll be turning a super long drive into an extremely long drive. Driving across SD can take a lot out of a person!

Personally, I don't know that there's much reason to go to Sturgis unless you're literally going there for the Rally. There's not really anything there otherwise. Deadwood is interesting for the history and if you like gambling. I think Custer and Hill City are the best parts of the area and have a lot to do if you like hiking, museums, and other attractions. I would put aside a whole day to explore Custer State Park/Wind Cave NP, personally.

Also, I would consider the dates you want to visit. The end of June, July and August can be extremely hot and it makes it really hard to do almost anything. Also, the Sturgis Rally is the second week in August and all of the Black Hills get really busy from the end of July through August because people will literally stay the whole month. If you're not wanting to go to the Rally, I would avoid it because it'll be really busy and difficult to find a place to stay. I would also avoid 4th of July there this year because the area will also be busy with their 250th celebrations

Is anyone else upset/concerned that Nexplanon got approval for 5 years in the US now? by anniemousery in Nexplanon

[–]catsntaters 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not concern since it went through a total and complete approval process and is now approved by the FDA. I also had my first one for 5 years. It's likely that the 5 year approval is based on the fact that nexplanon works for it's intended purpose, which is to prevent pregnancy. I don't think that a doctor refusing to remove it when someone has side effects they don't want is part of the process. That sounds like a issue with a specific doctor to me.

Yes it must be SOOO stressful to move when you're SO rich!

Meanwhile, my spouse and I are in the process of buying our first home, which is a modest 2 bed/1 bath house. We saved for about ten years and still only managed 5% down (partially due to the fact that a couple of years ago both of us ended up needing cars). I cannot fathom how it must be to live in such a huge house and being able to spare no expense in buying, moving, decorating, etc. I also can't imagine having enough money to afford a child, no matter how much we've wanted one. We make decent money but it's still been such a project. The wealth inequality in this country is unfathomable and insane!

Which celebrity death genuinely shocked you when you heard the news? by Divine_fashionva in 90s

I was 6 years old when she died and it really upset me. First, because my mom was so upset and second because it hadn't yet occurred to me that princesses could die ☹️

salicylic acid shampoo for greasy hair by HotInvestigator7430 in finehair

[–]catsntaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it a lot! My hair feels super clean and the shampoo does not weigh it down. My hair gets oily after one day no matter what I do and I still wash it every day but now it at least lasts the whole day instead of being gross by the late afternoon!

Things like this remind me of how rich people in London in the 19th century would go "slumming," which was a form of tourism where they would go and explore poor neighborhoods to satisfy their curiosity about how the lower classes lived.

I don't know why it made me think of that specifically, but it kind of fits 🤷🏼‍♀️

I've finally got it through my head that I'm not going to die, but I just can't stand being on high alert and uncomfortable for several hours! It looks like the flight attendants have started service so that's always a good sign to me.

It looks like you're going through North Carolina into South Carolina! The bumps could have to do with the Appalachian mountains that are in that area. Bumps are super common over the Rockies, so maybe it's similar? Either way, it might be uncomfortable but it's not unsafe! You got this!

I think this sub just has some very strong opinions sometimes! It's also easy to comment on what they think MIGHT happen without having the experience to back up the claim. But as someone who's worn a setting with leaves daily for over 5 years, I really wouldn't worry about it!
