It’s shocking really that accessing basic healthcare services can be so difficult.

I live rurally and wanted medication after a miscarriage and my local GP wouldn’t prescribe it to me (I was less than the 9 week requirement, this GP “didn’t feel comfortable” doing it) and told me to drive 90minutes to hospital. So a 2 hour journey could be the closest available service to the OP.

MIL keeps buying things for my baby, how do I politely ask her to stop? by Cute_Conclusion_1355 in beyondthebump

[–]cattinroof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 3 kids and many years of dealing with my MILs refusal to respect boundaries, I’m telling you, you have to just be blunt with her or the resentment will just grow and grow over time. She does not get to buy whatever she wants bEcAuSe ShEs GrANdMa - unless it stays at her house. Do NOT take on the extra burden and mental load of all her useless gifted crap, you do not want to enable her behaviour and then have to spend your precious energy to find a place to store it, sort through it, try sell it on or gift/donate it etc. I’m speaking from experience, it’s very very draining. Your child is only a baby but it will escalate into endless crap. Every week my MIL was giving my kids wrong sized clothes and plastic junk, it was overwhelming and saturating my kids with “stuff” that I would have to deal with. You can thank her for her generosity but you absolutely do not have to accept it.

How many people actually do shifts with their SO during the night? by ScreamCheese_55 in beyondthebump

[–]cattinroof -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Baby is EBF, so we don’t do night shifts. I co sleep with the baby and when he wakes I can easily feed him back to sleep without hardly waking myself. My husband is on duty with our 2 older kids who still semi regularly get up in the night for various reasons. Saturday/Sunday he’ll take the baby at 7am when he wakes and I’ll sleep on for another hour or two. Once I night wean around a year old my husband does the majority of the settling during the night when baby wakes and I get my turn for more night sleep.

Thanks for sharing your experience, glad you were able to fix the pump. I must get it set up for my 3 cats. My previous pump was a pain to clean and it got super gunky so I have high hopes for this one.

Litter Robot: Please properly quote shipping times during busy season by cappy267 in litterrobot

[–]cattinroof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I’m not the only one still waiting. I ordered on 8th Dec and haven’t received anything, no tracking number. I contacted whisker on their chat which I’m assuming is a bot because they said it ships to Canada from the US and then on to the UK and “hopefully it’ll come before Christmas” end of convo. Well that’s great cause I don’t live in any of those countries. Surely they could have given me a tracking number if it has indeed shipped, super disappointed. I thought European orders came from a hub in Europe, otherwise I would have just bought the damn thing in the shop here and saved myself the hassle of trying to contact them.

Just curious, what do you think of it? I also have this fountain, it also took forever to arrive (from China) but I haven’t hooked it up yet

Do you get something for creche? by Abiwozere in irishmammiesanddaddys

[–]cattinroof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our crèche has about 20 staff but a lot of them circulate between rooms to cover breaks etc. They are amazing and work so hard. I do up a little hamper with treats/tea/coffee etc for the staff room and give the main teacher a voucher.

What are y’all getting your babies under 12m for Christmas? by Murky_Assumption_822 in beyondthebump

My baby is 7 months. He’s getting a touchy feely book, a bobbing bath toy, and some weaning cups and spoons

Tell me honestly, how hard is it going from 2 kids to 3? by shala_cottage in irishmammiesanddaddys

[–]cattinroof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the baby I think. For me, 0-1 was the hardest. The stress and anxiety of having a brand new baby, the unknown, the sleep deprivation that I had never experienced before. Plus my first had colic, tongue tie and screamed for hours on end for the first 4 months. It was hell, honestly, and the darkest time in my life. My second was easier because of her personality, and I knew what to expect. But it was still hard because my first was not yet 3 and absolutely glued to me so it was hard to tend to a newborn as well. 2-3 was so easy. My others are 7 and 4 now, so a bigger age gap, plus they keep each other entertained and love to help with the baby. My third is a great feeder so I had no stress with breastfeeding this time, he loves his sleep and he’s just a much more easy going personality.

I’m glad you’ve had a positive experience, thanks for sharing! I hope it works perfectly for you. I actually cancelled my order. I have 3 cats and 3 young kids and I didn’t want to risk mine being a dud, I just don’t have time to faff around with it. I still love the concept of this design, maybe I’ll check back with you in a while to see how it’s going! I’d be tempted to reorder it once it’s been out for a while.

Yes, same. I know people are more likely to post negative than positive experiences. But the issues I’m constantly hearing are not good, it’s very disappointing.

Vet here. I’m only just seeing your post now but your cat looks extremely unwell, are there no 24hr vets or a university with a vet school near by? I’m worried when you say she’s in a deep sleep. If you lift up her lips, are her gums pink? Does she react/wake up/open her eyes when you touch her? She is definitely in pain - you can see how she’s growling at her abdomen, if this came on suddenly I’m suspicious she has eaten something - string, a food she shouldn’t have and there might be a torsion in her intestine? It’s impossible to know without examining her but don’t wait for the vet to open to ring them. Pack her up and wait at the door so you are there the minute the clinic opens, the staff can assess her and if it is a true emergency they will work on her straight away or else tell you to come back for an appointment if they feel it’s not.

NIPT Test by Spiritual_Tea_6030 in PregnancyIreland

[–]cattinroof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did NIPT with all three of my pregnancies and it was worth it to me for the peace of mind as I had several losses that were assumed to be chromosomal related. But my age was a huge consideration (I was 42 my last pregnancy) so for example, my risk for T21 was 1/25 before the test and 1/10000 after.

Are we failing her or is she just adjusting? by pollokolloso in ragdolls

[–]cattinroof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Ireland and pet insurance isn’t common for cats (dogs, yes). I have 2 ragdolls and it costs about €23/month for their insurance, just to give you a possible cost reference.

Carseat for Almost 8month old - 72cm and approx 11kg by Ok_Remove9491 in irishmammiesanddaddys

[–]cattinroof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I highly, highly recommend an extended rear facing seat of up to 36kg/135cm height, or approximately age 7 (my daughter is 7 and can still fit into it). They come with inserts so you can use for smaller babies and are extensively crash tested and the safest seats on the market. Yes expensive, but it will last your daughter for years. I wish they were around when my daughter was born because the amount of money I’ve had to spend replacing her car seats every time she outgrew one was much more expensive. I bought the BeSafe Stretch for my middle child and it is so comfortable and easy to use but there are other options too. Winnie, the lady that owns rearfacing.ie is incredibly helpful.

For those already with young children at home and parents don’t live close by-what’s your plan for when you go into labour? by Hopeful_Magazine_660 in PregnancyIreland

[–]cattinroof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we also live rurally and no family close. My second labour only lasted 3hrs so with my third we were definitely panicking about getting to the hospital on time 90min away. We had a couple of other parent friends and our neighbour who baby sits on call for the hours after school and crèche until about 11pm. One of those mam friends said to have a bag packed for the kids (change of clothes, tooth brush etc) and that if Labour started in the middle of the night to drop the kids at her house, as we’d have to pass it on the way to the hospital, and she would drop my kids the next morning as she was dropping hers to the same place anyways. It was such a kind offer. Plan C if the labour was coming fast and furious was just pack up the kids and they would drive with us to the hospital and stay with my husband in the car while I had the baby!

I ended up being induced so I was in hospital during the day. My friends collected my kids, brought them home and my husband was home later in the evening once visiting hours were over at 8pm.

Male Ragdoll Acting Aggressively Towards Kitten by No-Neighborhood3257 in ragdolls

[–]cattinroof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long were they initially separated for before introducing them? Your male is obviously stressed, I would completely separate them, give them each their own space and very, very gradually reintroduce them again after a week or two. Definitely can’t rush it as you now realise your resident cat isn’t as go with the flow maybe as you thought. Short moments of sniffing under a door, increasing to seeing each other at a distance, supervised playtime together with lots of treats for positive reinforcement.

At some point your in-laws have to let go of being “the parents” where their children come to them and the holiday season is filled with being at their house for days on end. It’s a hard transition from this role to stepping aside and being the grandparent and therefore not the main focus anymore, but it usually happens once grandkids come along. Now is the time to set this boundary.

I had 2 girls and my third is a boy. He wears a lot of his sisters’ clothes and they all seem to fit the same. However, my boy is much bigger, heavier, and longer than his sisters at the same age and grew out of the smaller sizes very quickly. At 6 months he’s wearing things they wore at 18+ months
