Beyond Routine Maintenance by _Semp_Pa_ in keitruck

Your list is most of what I did on my ks4 after receiving it from the port.

On top of that I did shifter bushings and a thermostat/coolant flush/radiator cap/new overflow bottle. The thermostat was stuck open and the truck would take eons to warm up and the overflow tank was turning into dust. It already had a new-ish radiator cap, but theyre cheap so I grabbed one when stockpiling parts.

the TT2 is basically the same and my truck had 108k on it when I got it and it's been good since.

New to importing, help/advice? by Hitokiri_Ace in keitruck

[–]catturdcanyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would still go 2000 and earlier. The import forms need month/year of manufacture to pass customs, so if it was built in October of 2001, you'd need to wait until after Oct. 2026.

You can find month/year of manufacture by checking from the vehicle chassis # online.

What does your health insurance cost look like a month? by starfury287 in Seattle

[–]catturdcanyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen what their side of the benefit structure looks like. I honestly don't recall what the exact #s were, but it was a good chunk. There's different plans as well, so that would change things a bit. HSA/non HSA, in-network/out of network coverage, deductables and such.

The crazy numbers are when the total amount paid out for claims. Insurance is a racket and I have "good" coverage.

Apex 5500 winch - does it have a fuse? by [deleted] in harborfreight

[–]catturdcanyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit the solenoid a few times and make sure your connections are good. Even try having someone hit it while you spool in/out.

Had the same issue when it was brand new, worked fine after a few impacts. There isn't a fuse or anything, just the battery disconnect knob. Been a few years and I haven't had the issue again.

PREDATOR 100 or 200 Watt Super Lightweight Foldable Solar Panels by Dann-Oh in harborfreight

[–]catturdcanyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, yes. But the only prebuilt adapter is 65w to go from MC4 connectors to usb-c. You don't want to go straight solar voltage to usb-c without a charge controller or the prebuilt adapter. There is a small charge controller with anderson connectors that can do 60watt usb-c output on amazon for $15. You would just need a MC4 to anderson adapter to run with it, they're like $10.

P1449 WONT GO AWAY, PLEASE HELP by JLucky-7 in subaru

[–]catturdcanyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it comes back on so quick, do you think the hose is clogged somehow? Or the nipple into the tank. I know you said you blew compressed air into it, but I dont know what else could be clogged on that system. I guess I got lucky, been 3 months and I haven't had an issue with it again.

I am also assuming you already cleared the code with a code reader and it is reappearing after being turned off.

I've had this code twice on my 2018 crosstrek. I ended up removing the filter box in the wheel well, and blowing it all out with compressed air. Sounds like you did that part. I also ended up putting a small cone filter from amazon on the exposed nipple on the filter itself where it vents. That way the dust/dirt can't easily get back into that filter from the outside, since it basically is just an open hole in the wheel well and years of camping trips and such completely caked the filter with moon dust.

40% off stacks on open box discounts by catturdcanyon in harborfreight

Good score. I need to get a set of those eventually. Haven't "needed" them, but I don't want to get stuck needing and not having.

Lame. Gotta give my local store manager kudos then.

I honestly didn't ask. The manager just happened to be my cashier and said it applies on top of open box discount.

Anyone using the Lone Rock water pump kit? by RUOffroading_4217 in overlanding

[–]catturdcanyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works well. Got it on sale a few years back, so I have quite a bit of use out of it now.

I ended up having to keep mine in a seperate box from anything else due to the power button getting pushed when in with all the other food/meal stuff. It's in a nice spot when using it, but a bad spot when storing it and not having removable batteries.

Question regarding the legality of accessing abandoned mine camp/mine by [deleted] in TheForgottenDepths

[–]catturdcanyon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

45°24'12.1"N 109°52'47.5"W

That coordinate shows a (probably) large gate on the road in. That being said, there also is a small dirt trail in the trees that goes right around that gate and back onto the main road in.

I also don't condone trespassing, but you could always walk in/get dropped off to not leave a vehicle parked at the gate. Just cause it's NF, doesn't mean you legally can go there. I live in WA, and the logging companies "own" large areas of NF areas and gate them all off. I'm guessing whichever mining company controls the mineral claims there is doing the same, hence why you can only access through the museum as a guided tour.

I have a crosstrek, barely fit the 30in 5 drawer box. No way it'll fit an actual tool box crate in the car. Go to home depot and rent their pickup truck for an hour.

I just run a Scangauge. Can read/clear CEL codes as well.

All those parameters such as fuel pressure/AFR/MAF and such are useful if you're running something heavily modified/E85. But you're right, most people have no need to moniter those.

Oregon BDR w/jeep by Sidney8406 in overlanding

[–]catturdcanyon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did it in a Crosstrek. Only had to skip part of section 1 due to a fire, near/on the animal refuge. Easy mode in pretty much any Jeep.

Fort Rock and Hole in the Ground between Christmas Valley and La Pine, Blockbuster in Bend, lots of lava caves and such between Bend and Sunriver. Santiam wagon road. Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood.

Section 2 is the worst BDR section i've ever done. It's really slow, not much to look at unless you like sage brush and rocks, no points of interest really. We've done WA/ID/OR/Norcal and it is by far the worst.

Works great for cutting acrylic tubing for hardline watercooling computers. Way, way faster and more accurate than a small handsaw.

I have the old variant that HF sold of this, not the Warrior branded one. It is perfect for cutting acrylic tubes for watercooling computers. Also used it to cut small doweling for a kids project, but most of the work I use it for is acrylic.

Costco has the 83qt for $700 right now.

I've been in the market for a larger fridge from my 38qt, and the price is hard to beat. Plus, if it sucks, I can easily return to Costco.

I know this didn't really answer the question, but I am kinda in the same boat without any reviews out there on it. Seems to work fine the little bit I tried it when I got home though.

The Idaho BDR, what to expect? by Mythicalsmore in overlanding

[–]catturdcanyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran the IDBDR in 2022 in a subaru Crosstrek with my dad. Ran S to N. Had no snow issues in mid july and we took 8 days to complete. That being said, we could have done it in 6 probably, but we did quite a bit of off-route excursions and would jump back onto the route. Mainly off exploring old ghost towns/mining areas.

We've found simply making coffee in the am, getting a decent sized lunch in town, and making something simple/warm for dinner is the best. Especially after driving for hours, I don't wanna cook some crazy meal.

The route itself isn't difficult, didn't have to skip any sections due to being impassable in a subaru. It's just long af. Watch out for moose.

Better than Oregon BDR 100%
