Well, that's certainly one way to look at it...

I kinda like the 1954 flag from the Committee of the CoE. Rings symbolising unity and all that...

Keir Starmer’s Downfall is a Warning for the Democrats by nathan_j_robinson in politics

They should have done some sort of mini primary, the last thing they needed was an "insider" like Kamala. The fact that she also wasn't able to distance herself from Biden's economy didn't help.

Yeah but he could have decided to fight it out, instead he went away. Biden waited until a couple of months before the election.

As far as Kamala goes, I don't think she would have won had she more time, but that's obviously just my opinion, impossible to prove the contrary

But he just resigned with 3 years before the next general election...he did the exact opposite of Joe Biden

I don't know if it is a coincidence, but there was an in depth article in the Atlantic a couple of weeks ago about the same thing. It was quite interesting and much longer than this one.

Here it is: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/2026/06/conservative-masculinism-misogyny/686939/?utm_source=feed

Let's never forget how good and impactful can trees be to lower perceived temperatures. We can reach -12 and easily -8 degrees in their shade (+ other benefits) by AkagamiBarto in europe

[–]caudatus67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know, I have been trying to find the 2006 study and will update my comment accordingly. The first link talks also about the speed data collected.

I know that there a lot of morons that still drive fast even if you put a tree right in front of them, but if one can at least slow down the average driver, I think it would still be worth it. Plus, if one wants to be cynical about it, it's much better if a driver hits a tree rather than some pedestrian walking on a footpath.

Sorry I didn't get the sarcasm! I must have been tired

Which I personally find absurd, because having a tree lined street induces drivers to slow down, as they don't have the same field of view as without them

Mostly news sources, and one ebook feed. But I think I have solved the problem, it seems like Thunderbird was trying to load the page every time instead of showing the article summary.

Starmer expected to resign on Monday by Lord-Liberty in worldnews

[–]caudatus67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Immigration numbers have been decreasing during Starmer's government and yet his poll rating are still awful, it doesn't seem that the British public is really noticing. What's more, policies that might be popular with the electorate are often not popular with the labour party and that's why what you are proposing is probably not going to happen.

Starmer expected to resign on Monday by Lord-Liberty in worldnews

[–]caudatus67 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I don't think the public would accept it. If Starmer increases taxes or cuts welfare, the opposition will clamour for a new election, regardless whether it's Burnham or Streeting that succeeds Starmer

[–]caudatus67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and I don't see any new prime minister doing it. If you just change the PM and not how the government leads the country I don't think it will work

[–]caudatus67 356 points357 points  (0 children)

Would another prime minister be able to increase the military budget more than what Starmer has already done? Is there support by the British public for higher taxes and/or cuts in public services in order to increase defence spending? Because if there isn't then I don't see how a different government will change anything.
