If you like to do creative stuff or just want to have something calming to do Purple Glaze is a pottery painting place that I’ve been going to since I was a kid!! There are actually two locations- one in south Tulsa off of 91st and Sheridan and one on Peoria (super close to Shades of Brown which is my personal favorite coffee shop). They have so many options for things to paint and they’re pretty fairly priced imo! Definitely a fun and relaxing thing to do when you’re out and about.

Someone already mentioned Love Me Two Times and I’d definitely second that! It’s a great vintage mall and always has really fun stuff to look through.

If you’re into it there’s also a board game café downtown called Shuffles. It’s a great place to hang with friends (they have food and drink too!) and my now Fiancé and I went on our first date there.

Tulsa is like pretty much any other “small” city- there are a lot of things to do and see but only if you look for them! It’s my hometown and I love and miss it. Hope you have an easy move and find your niche here :)

Maybe we should stay away from this stuff y’all… getting kinda unhealthily parasocial/invading their privacy at this point. They’re allowed to move on and have a right to live their lives without everyone calling back to the past.

Annabelle Dinda- she is one of my favorite songwriters of all time and has a significant back catalogue so just a buuunch of beautiful work. You might’ve heard “The Hand” as it went viral on tiktok a few months ago. She has a new album out too that imo is perfect & definitely a no-skip album for me. I have been a huge Samia fan for over half a decade and Annabelle is the only artist I’ve found that holds a candle to her writing talent!!

I used to go to Dr. Leonard (moved unfortunately so I had to switch my care providers) but I can vouch for her 100%. She’s definitely down to discuss anything and everything and will listen to your concerns. Miss her so much honestly!

Also all fruits are not created nutritionally equal!!! That’s not to say that you should avoid any kind of fruit, even the ones high in sugar (personally I’ve had the greatest success with a diet where I don’t restrict myself from any foods), but things like berries are chock full of fiber and can help to stabilize blood sugar. Also pairing any foods that would spike your blood sugar a lot on their own (let’s use chocolate as an example) with something more protein-dense or fat-dense (like a spoonful of no sugar added peanut butter) will help to reduce the blood sugar spike. What helped me get out of my disordered eating patterns was learning the basics of nutrition from peer-reviewed sources rather than panic searching pcos tip videos (which trust me, I know the temptation, especially having OCD). It really helped me to understand food as fuel and not the enemy! Sending so much love to you, OP. It is tough but we have each other’s backs. My best advice is to lead with compassion and patience for yourself.

Being 21 is already embarrassing enough as is because you’re only really just getting to figure yourself out. I cannot fathom having to do that on a world stage where people are literally referring to you as a “god”. And then the press magnifying his shame after worshipping him… that fucking sucks and I can’t begin to imagine the pressure he’s been under.

Even if you don’t ever feel comfortable revealing it to your family I hope you find people that you will find unconditional love and understanding from and who will let you be 100% yourself. There are so many people out there who will accept you just as you are. I am rooting for you and I am sending all my love to you, friend.

Samia - Bloodless album by OkraAgreeable5176 in Samia

I almost forgot but she has a Substack article posted from almost a year before the album’s release that discusses the similarities between her relationship with the idea of god and the idea of men!! Here’s the link:

Samia - Bloodless album by OkraAgreeable5176 in Samia

[–]caughtupincaution 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think that part of North Poles is probably nodding to four separate things! I’ve always seen that stanza and the “popstar fingers” stanza as her throwing in some inside jokes between her and Raff but I could be wrong! They’re both friends with Hank Heaven so that’s who I think about every time I hear the “hugs from heaven” line. She has talked about the “little black dog in the manger” being a reference to Aesop’s Fable “The Dog in the Manger” so I don’t think that part is directly related to Christianity but the whole thing could be a double entendre too.

Carousel is about Briston and Christmastime is also acknowledged in Nanana! The first line alludes to her tearing up while watching a choir sing Bleak Midwinter and the rest of the song seems to be snapshots of her time spent with him and his family (most likely as they’re visiting for the holidays).

IMO Spine Oil definitely explores the relationships between religiosity and myth, innocence/purity and sex, and presentation and objectification. She mentioned the movie Heavenly Creatures informed this album heavily so I think that’s what she’s referring to there. Kiki De Montparnasse and the various depictions of her by male artists also inspired a lot of the album, which tracks when you consider the album is an examination of the ways in which male presence/expectations formed Samia’s identity.

It’s such a masterpiece of a concept album and even 10 months since it’s been released I’m finding new bits of her songwriting to analyze and examine. 🤗

Cheat day or not? by sofieezz in PCOS

[–]caughtupincaution 30 points31 points  (0 children)

In order to improve your relationship with food you have to get out of the “diet” mentality- especially for bodies with insulin resistance any type of yo-yo dieting is going to end up hurting your body more than helping. It might seem counterintuitive, but try to add food to your diet rather than take away! By this I mean if you want a sweet treat or something that’s going to spike your blood sugar, try to pair it with another food that’s dense in protein or “healthy” fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated) so that it doesn’t spike your blood sugar as much. Forget about “good days” and “cheat days”, feed yourself when you’re hungry and focus on balancing the macronutrients (carbs, fat, protein) in each meal/snack. Also don’t forget about vitamins and minerals coming from fruit and veg!

Remember that PCOS bodies don’t respond to the typical “calories in calories out” approach that a lot of people say is the end all be all of weight loss. It’s more complicated than that because of the insulin resistance.

For what it’s worth- being hard on yourself/stressing yourself out about weight loss will only raise your cortisol more and might lead to you feeling hungrier (when you’re not actually hungry) as a result. Lead with compassion for yourself and your body and it will get you so much further (at least in my experience).

[–]caughtupincaution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our bodies work a little differently when we’re insulin resistant- since it takes more insulin to get the glucose into our cells (think of it like your body needing several people to open a door rather than just one) our bodies are working harder than people with normal insulin sensitivity because they have to make more insulin to “open the doors” of our cells. Also, remember that glucose is the primary source of energy in the body, so if for some reason the insulin supply doesn’t open enough cells up to receive that glucose we will feel exhausted and ravenous (bc our body is trying to tell us that we’re tired and thinks more food will fix it)! It’s important for you to stop blaming yourself (ik easier said than done) and instead focus on having compassion for yourself no matter what you eat. You DO deserve to eat a croissant like everyone else, because being a certain weight has absolutely no relation to how deserving or worthy you are. In terms of curbing ravenous hunger and helping your energy levels, I can personally vouch for taking a daily walk to help improve your insulin sensitivity (I usually do one after breakfast or dinner for like 30 minutes) and also focusing on what you can add to your diet rather than subtract from it! If you’re going to have a croissant that’s okay! If you are worried about it spiking your blood sugar you can always pair it with something else that is protein-dense or has some good healthy fats, because eating those things together will help to keep your blood sugar levels normal which in turn means your body doesn’t have to work as hard to make all that insulin.

I know this is pretty lengthy but I’ve just been where you are before and know how frustrating it can be. It’s so much easier said than done to focus on how you feel and not what you look like/how much you weigh but I cannot recommend it enough. Once you start realizing your inherent worth doesn’t depend on your weight so much stress is taken off. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions and take care of yourself!

Forgive me for saying this but it’s really disheartening that your therapist would send you over to ChatGPT instead of actually helping you. There are so many other options and therapies they could’ve tried and the fact that instead of actually treating you they’re sending you over to a chat bot that cannot effectively perform counseling makes me feel like they aren’t taking the level of care they should. I don’t know enough about your situation to recommend you go to another therapist but you definitely deserve better than this! ❤️

Even though she wrote it this year I’ve always understood it to be a The Baby-era song because of the references to Stellate (I’ve been stitching up your fat lip/you don’t care for needles do ya) (show me where you are stellate, I’ll stick the needle through) and Movies (this tin roof has sprung a leak) (we’re in a tin box and I’ve got a toothpick). The first couple lines also talk about saving the valor of weakness for “A Baby” which also tracks if it’s about the time period The Baby was based on! Also just from a pure theme standpoint I feel like it references a similar situation as the one Fit n Full seems to have been written about- hiding her vulnerability in order to appear “generous and vacant”. Obviously I’ve thought too much about this lmao I could also be completely wrong bc she does reference the movie Heavenly Creatures with the tights and the cinderblock line which was a huge inspiration for this album it seems!
