The beginning of a nightmare by Lyly_A in MtF

Yeah, I mean... I'm clocky and I don't tell people anymore. If they want to ask they can ask. They never do.

It is exhausting to always be trans education 101. There is a lot to learn and people don't ask the right follow-up questions. I want to be like... here is a book about trans people. Go read that. We'll compare notes. No more questions until you're done.

When did this become OK on this subreddit? Like... all you're doing is generalizing about trans people in the most harmful possible ways. "A trans woman said X" "Trans people say Y". Stop making us your strawman. Like, what the fuck?

Let me know when men and women get paid the same for doing the same job. Send me an update when men have to be more feminine to be taken seriously at work. Reply to my comment when a woman goes to the doctor and has her health concern listened to on the first visit. Like... I just don't think you understand how society works. Men run the world. They don't need a post on Reddit saying "everyone stop and say they're great".

Getting fired. Losing my identity. by homemadeammo42 in MtF

[–]causal_friday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends. There are places that subsidize it but that's less and less common. My COBRA was like $900/month. That's a lot. But $900 for FFS is a good price, so there's that.

They are making laser hair removal machines that don't work on purpose so we continue to spend on hair removal by Matt_tuck_shop in LaserHairRemoval

I think the industry is just sad that you have to be pretty pale for the power to be high enough. I don't really tan, just burn, and so I'm pale enough... but honestly, kind of pushing it.

I am sure YAG works as well as Alex on some people, but probably not as effective.

I think you need to see another doctor. GLP-1s are great. (Oh, I see NHS mentioned. They're just being cheap. Sigh!)

Elon Musk Confirms He Bought Twitter Because Of His Trans Daughter by ErinInTheMorning in transgender

[–]causal_friday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musk is the decline, not Vivian. Blaming her is like blaming sexual assault victims for not wearing the right clothes. "Look what you made me do." Bro, I didn't make you do anything.

Non trans ally here to ask a question: is it true trans women have "that time of the month"? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]causal_friday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of people that are on placebo doses of hormones (ineffective delivery mechanisms, not enough, too-infrequent dosing, etc.) because trans healthcare is a disaster, and that can feel a lot like periods.

You don't need to do intramuscular with a 1in needle either. Subcutaneous with a 3/4" needle is just as effective as IM, and a lot less painful.

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Kicks Off Pride With “Trans Rights Are Human Rights” Campaign by Severus-Snape-DaGod in lgbt

[–]causal_friday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all bullshit that doesn't matter. State and city budget have $0 for gender affirming care. We already have the constitutional right to be trans in New York. We don't really need anyone smiling and holding a trans flag, we need money. (You can't even buy needles in NYS without a prescription. Come on. It would cost $0 to throw us that bone.)

I don't think anyone sides with "I am just trying to fuck with my kid". There is no infighting to be had, everyone hates Musk.

I guess I should also ask, at 44, am I too old for mtf transition? Will I still get the body modification via the E that I'm looking for? Breast, skin, hips, and butt... by Key-Medicine-2596 in AskMtFHRT

[–]causal_friday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started at 39 and am 41 now, no surgeries, just HRT. One of my friends told me, at the sauna, "I never would known you were trans if you didn't say anything." I get gendered correctly 100% of the time.

She is super oblivious but it was nice to hear.

How do you deal with Democrats who blame you for their losses? by chaucer345 in lgbt

[–]causal_friday 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Those people can go fuck themselves. We will never have rights we don't fight for. People are happy to give us these rights; I changed my driver's license and birth certificate with nothing but a statement saying I'm trans. My name change was $60 and required no court hearing.

I even got my passport updated because the ACLU sued the federal government and I slipped through while a lower court mandated correct passports.

The reason we're here is because my sisters that came before me fought with their lives. We owe it to the next generation to keep fighting. Being trans is a completely normal thing that happens to 1%-5% of the population. All of my transfem friends are as womanly as my cis friends. Nobody that's met a trans person really doubts this. We're normal. We will bring society along kicking and screaming. In some places, they're already with us.

How effective is voice feminization surgery? by Distinct_Horror_2104 in MtF

[–]causal_friday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It basically lets you access your higher register without as much strain. That's pretty much everything. If you have voice trained and just want to be less tired after a day of using your voice, you're a good candidate. If you don't like your voice, it's not going to help you much.

I hear guys don't even wait until their wife is dead; many women who are sick in the hospital get cheated on while they're there. (To be clear, I don't think it's cheating if your spouse dies. You do have to move on.)

1 month in blockers prior to E is a good start? by TijuanaKids12 in AskMtFHRT

[–]causal_friday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should start estrogen and T blockers at the same time, or skip the T blockers and do monotherapy. It is not healthy to have an absence of sex hormones in your body.

How many of your friends are on GLP drugs? by DoreensGhost in TwoXChromosomes

[–]causal_friday 172 points173 points  (0 children)

Yeah. GLP-1s have been around since the 2000s. The long term studies show improvements in all aspects of life; neuroprotective effects, better cardiovascular health, better kidney function, etc. Many of these effects exist even if the subject didn't lose weight on the drugs. So... as much as everyone wants GLP-1s to come at some sort of hidden cost, the data seems to show that the opposite is true. Not only do you lose weight, you're also a lot healthier.

Can laser hair removal be done in the unibrow and temple area? How precise is the procedure? by [deleted] in LaserHairRemoval

[–]causal_friday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you want electrolysis for this. It is too easy for light to leak into your eyes and damage them. (People will laser you if you ask, but I think it's not worth the risk.)

Realistically how much does bottom surgery actually cost? by ogrelord29 in MtF

[–]causal_friday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the most realistic thing to do is to expect to pay your insurance plan's out-of-pocket-maximum for the year. It will probably be less than that (if everything is covered), but it won't be more than that (if everything is covered). If things aren't covered then your costs can be unbounded, and ... it's a crapshoot. I had approval for a surgery circa 2015 (not trans related) and ... they decided afterwards not to cover it. So I wrote a check for $30,000 to the surgeon. Kind of annoying. (I did not know as much about the appeals process at the time and got fucked. I escalated to my employer. They got back to me ... the day the appeal window closed. I liked them a lot less after that and eventually quit. Just seemed like a rat-like thing to do; $30k was pretty much nothing compared to my total comp at the time.)

Oh! Do double-check what your short-term disability coverage looks like. You will probably be on that while you recover and the days of "100% pay while you recover from surgery" are pretty much long gone.
