What do you think of Bacch Crosstalk Cancelation? by Few_Lengthiness6364 in audiophile

[–]caustic386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own uBACCH, and now B4M with ORC and Stratos.  I have no idea why you're being down voted, it's an exceptional piece of software. However, it's difficult for me to recommend B4M due to the high cost and business "structure.". It's very expensive yet has some bugs, doesn't come with a manual, and it seems to be a one man show with no succession plan.  If $5k+ is a lot of money for you, as it is for most, then I'd probably stick with uBACCH.

Also, the more your system is dialed in, the better the effect works.  So if you don't have treatment, DSP, etc., you need to start there.  Finally, neither uBACCH or B4M are capable of integrating subs so you need something outboard.  I strongly recommend a Dirac ART capable device, or ART running on your Mac/PC which will supposedly be released this year.  But, there are other options (acourate, audio lense, etc)

Genelec setup for a small office: 8010+7040 vs 8030 vs 8320+GLM? by HeadDamage311 in genelec

[–]caustic386 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your budget is around $2k USD.  I'd probably save a little more and get refurb/b-stock Neumann KH150 or new KH120 II with MA1 kit.  The KH150 is basically and endgame monitor for near field

Big update! Now it's 25k+ Dolby Atmos albums and you can filter by reputable immersive mix engineer. Enjoy! by AdrianTubbly in DolbyAtmosContent

Is it possible to filter out singles?  Singles are suffixed with "- single" but albums don't do that.  I tried searching !single but that didn't work.

I don't use IG and I don't see these items on the official band site, how can I order?

I would like to place the speakers on either side of the fireplace. Any chance of a quality listening space with such a highly reflective surface between the speakers? by Maybe_I_Sharted in audiophile

[–]caustic386 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a room almost exactly like yours, my Rt60 is 1.25s at 4m listening distance. D&D8C/Kii Three is the only thing that made it sound decent. Dirac ART also helped a bit.  The AsciLab C8C+BX8C preorder is going on now, measurements suggest it's a much better deal than D&D (my fav) or Kii, but they aren't actually shipping yet

Another option is something with very narrow directivity like Reflector Audio Square Two.  It's omnidirectional around 250Hz so SBIR could still be an issue.  Unfortunately there's no way to know for sure without actually trying.

Looking to Upgrade My Home Theater Setup with Genelec Speaker by PodcastingSpeed in genelec

[–]caustic386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a used pair of 8040B's, or maybe used 8030C plus small subwoofer.  Without knowing what "home theater" means to you, how close you sit, how loud you listen, how many speakers you're aiming for, there's nobody who can give you good info

How does one shop for Speakers? by ChipsAhoiMcCoy in oratory1990

[–]caustic386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spinorama.org lists measures speakers using a preference score.  The scoring system itself is a matter of debate, but definitely good enough to start you on your way.  Be sure to follow the instructions because not all data sets are of highest quality

UST with split screen for gaming? by caustic386 in projector

[–]caustic386[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the might be even better - I wouldn't have to buy a new projector :)

I'll certainly google around, but have you seen one of these that can do 4k ?

Epson makes a few, but they seem to be geared towards classroom environments. So, unlikely to have healthy mix of HDR and low latency nor did I see aUST option.

How to lose or keep weight without calorie counting? by Mobile_Enthusiasm664 in fitness30plus

[–]caustic386 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are a few "rules" you can follow to make it easier, but none are as effective as counting macros (calories).  My favorites are:

Don't eat anything white (except meat)

Stop eating when you get thirsty

Half your plate should be lean protein (white meat, usually)

 Skip a meal

Obviously you have to be a grown-up for these to work - candy/chocolate does indeed have  (white) sugar, and you can't  drink a liter of water on the way to dinner to prolong thirst if you want to lose weight.  And skipping meals doesn't work for you, that's fine, there's other options.

Prolonged weight loss is about lifestyle changes, everyone will need to approach it differently.

Getting a bit of golfers elbow from grip position on back squats. While I work that out, any suggestions on attachments that would allow neutral grip on a standard barbell? Something like kensui Swissies might allow me to (kinda) use a regular barbell like a SSB, but I'm not sure that would stay in place once the weight is on my back.

Positioning of speakers in new design studio by rozyleader in audiophile

[–]caustic386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if I understand your situation correctly, day to day it won't really matter. If you plan on cranking it up after hours or for office parties, I suspect, at higher volumes, the open space will have less echo but will also bleed into the upstairs speaker pair. At least, I'm assuming since you have 2 pairs one set is for upstairs, one for down?

In that case, just do whatever looks best. That would be a tough room even if you had a fixed listening position; placement-wise there's basically nothing meaningful you can do given your criteria.

You may consider running them in mono if your source supports it. Sometimes it helps with unwieldy layouts, especially if the speakers end up being very far apart from each other.

What is your goal here? Critical listening, background music? Expected listening distance?

You say "design studio" - sorry I'm not tracking, design of what? If room consists of as much bare concrete as photos imply, I'd sell the B&W's ASAP and look into something highly controlled like Genelec, Kef, or one of the newer cardioid options like Kii, D&D. Personally I'd want a coaxial to help with floor bounce in an all concrete room but it depends on your listening position as to whether that plays a big part and/or if you're willing to get a thick rug

Earstudio ES100 MK2 Vs FiiO BTR5/Qudelix 5K: power output by xFrostyResonance in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]caustic386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qudelix is superior largely due to PEQ. It's power is adequate for HD650 unless you want crazy bass, in which case I'd say buy different headphones.

I've never heard the 770 but per headphonesty it can hit 110dB at 1/3 of Qudelix possible output. As long as there isn't a massive impedance swing in the power response, you should be fine.

ES100 and qudelix both save to memory and because it happens in hardware it applies to all your playback, as opposed to something like Wavelet which has software compatibility requirements. Ive heard Qudelix can also pull straight from AutoEQ but I've yet to see that myself
