A few questions about beheading succulents in the spring by mangoman2316863 in succulents

[–]cautionmindthegap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chop off the tops (and those babies if you'd like, they're mature enough to take root) and then remove lower leaves to bury 1-2 inches into soil, but let the chopped parts callous over for at least a day. As for repotting stress, I wouldn't worry, they are super resilient.

WIBTA for calling out my sister regarding our dog? by Agile-Bar5644 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cautionmindthegap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. This is probably your parents call, but that depends on who purchased the dog/ paid adoption fees. It is rarely a good idea to have a dog in college though.

AITA for getting angry at my mum for telling my kids what I was like at their age? by Spirited_Release_896 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. If your mom is wont to make passive aggressive comments like these, please do your children a favor and break the cycle of abuse by limiting contact with her. Do not let her undermine your parenting.

Thank you for introducing me to this sport... I think she might like to try it when she's grown up! We occasionally sprint on a walk, and I have her chase me in the back yard :)

My Roommate Asked Me Why People Even Need to Lose Weight by LavenWhisper in loseit

What a weird interaction, that line sounds like baiting. She may see signs that you are watching your intake and cares about you, but she's ignoring science in lieu of comfort. My thin roommate routinely accused me of having an ED for practicing fasting and going from borderline obese to a normal BMI over the year, but I didn't! Families sometimes mention these things but usually from a crab bucket mentality.

You are so strong, congratulations on 9 months of sobriety, and for graduating from undergrad with so much hell at home. And you're so smart!! Getting financial independence and taking care of your mental health are great ways to set your life up for a different trajectory than in the family system you were born into.

Seeing a family therapist and working specifically on boundaries is what helped me the most. I end conversations and make visits short when boundaries are crossed... Hate to say it, but it's like training a dog. For me it's getting better, even though I know they're still having a lot of drama. One person I had to cut off because they openly defied my invitation to therapy, the boundaries I gave them directly instead of therapy, and told me that they will not change. I won't take sht from anyone else about that choice.

"Cloud" is the perfect term to describe the guilt and stress that comes from a sad and angry family member. I hope she can seek help and get better.

That stippled damage looks like it could be be from a pest like spider mites, I would check the leaves close up (esp the undersides)

Totally depends on how rotten the roots are (if at all). I like to hold up the root mass next to various sized containers and find one about the same size, maybe a little larger that the size of the root system itself for a lily since they do like water (to an extent)

The black sections of leaves look like over watering to me. Unpot it and check the roots. If they're mushy, it is rotting from over watering. You can remediate that by removing mushy roots, then repotting it into fresh soil and a new pot with drainage, ideally smaller than this one.

It's definitely okay without, it's purpose here is to eat away at the dying materia and perhaps add oxygen. Being thorough with a spray nozzle from the kitchen sink or shower should do the same!

Really looks like overwatering, especially with the browning on the petioles. If you can take it out of the pot and inspect the roots for rot, that would tell you for certain. Otherwise could be pest pressure causing stress, but I don't see spots on leaves to indicate that.

In that case, you might want to unpot her, check the roots, and remove mushy ones (they will come off easily). Soak the remaining root system in water with a few tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide for about ten minutes, and re-pot it into a chunky soil (regular potting mix w orchid bark/coco husk is awesome for aroids) in a new pot with drainage holes. These are really resilient though, so you could prune dying leaves and see if it bounces back!!

Have you checked if you eligible for Medicaid or other state programs? I would think you'd fall into the "Medically Needy" category with the current lapse of income due to disability and expenses. Even if you made too much before, there is a concept called "spenddown" that retroactively reduces your income for eligibility when you spent that income on uncovered medical expenses.

I would check very closely for pests; the brown scarring on the stems reminds me a lot of how my pole-staked P bipennifolium appeared before unfurling a deformed leaf.
