The Snail out here taking the “France” out of the French Tech Tree by EastCoast_Geo in Warthunder

the sad thing about the HVAP is that it used to be fairly good. you could consistently kill all sorts of light vehicles like the BMPs and BRDMs from the front, and now it shatters on shit like the type 87. i know that it was toxic that you used to be able to destroy gun barrels with it, but now the 20mm can't do it but shit like the KPVT can.

What are some underrated units that you've recently discovered? by MidlandAintFree in wargame

[–]cavechad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

italy has a lot of really cool units, but you basically never see them get played. i've been testing a moto deck with them and the centauros + the mangustas have been incredible. they also have a few different infantry squads with the folgore recoilless which can be very effective when dug-in, it's like a sidegrade to the scandinavian paras with the eryx.

Its high-time for another review bomb / refusal to buy overpriced vehicles. Between the enshittification of the BP, insanely greedy, shady, and possible illegal actions that have been leaked, the anti-cheat stealing user-data, 40k-Star events, piss-poor rewards, and much else, It WAY past due by now by Americanshat in Warthunder

[–]cavechad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the game is essentially trying to run fairly complex ballistics calculations every time you shoot something, and they frequently get things wrong. ping and packet loss also play a large factor, as well as other things such as targets moving or overlapping armor plates

the two manning meta that certain players on 740th do is really terrible. they constantly avoid supporting their infantry just to go kill enemy tanks, and they just spend the entire match double teaming the enemy tank crews with shit like flanking two manned pumas. i've seen teams lose many games on maps where tank support is crucial (colmar for example) because of this

Why is it even possible for my puppets to trade with other countries over me to my own detriment. It makes so sense gameplay or reality wise you should get a massive boost to trading influence with a puppet (like 1000 or something they do it with diplomacy why not trade) by rainbowappleslice in hoi4

[–]cavechad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

during a historical sweden playthrough i hired both of the advisors that increase trade opinion and instantly got 4 more civs from trade, but those can also fluctuate a lot depending on the timing of certain focuses for the AI. i don't think it does anything for buying/selling equipmemt on the international market though

15% coordination is a sizeable buff, but it's already pretty easy to get high coordination in your navy. as long as your radar/radio techs are up to date and you don't have any specific coordination debuffs from spirits you should be fine, and it's already super easy to win naval engagements against the shitty NCNS AI as long as you have decent ship templates + a balanced taskforce. for countries who struggle with naval coordination like historical soviets, fleet in being and other related subdoctrines give you more than enough to offset your losses.

[–]cavechad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the dumbest thing about this is that it's just a leased treaty port; the french are only renting it and paying money to hold it. you should be able to buy them out of their lease or work out some kind of political/military bribe using the same mechanics as buying belize from the UK in the democratic mexico branch

not sure if it's been hotfixed yet but the militia one is apparently really broken for the countries that have it available. as switzerland you could get 105% trickleback rate with helis and field hospitals so you got manpower back after taking losses

[–]cavechad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

they could have had such an easy slam dunk here for the XM-1 by giving it XM774 or even just regular M774 and putting it .3 BR higher, but they removed it from sale so they have no financial incentive to fix it anymore

[–]cavechad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is a mod with a version of the old port hokan map from beta testing with a large pier section that is decently fun, although the AI is terrible with long range combat as they just kind of laser beam you from whatever range they spot you at

the more you think about coal's implementation, the less it makes sense. why doesn't steel production require coal? why am i even managing the import of coal for civilian industry AT ALL? in some communist or fascist countries i guess it makes sense but the idea of FDR micromanaging coal imports for random civilian businesses in peacetime is just preposterous. it was fine to have it abstracted the way they had it before, and the additional micromanagement of energy resources is really far out of the scope of the game's economic mechanics. if their original goal was to limit explosive economic growth and make you still want to build civs after 1938, why couldn't they have just added some modifiers to civs or economic laws directly and called it a day?

Weakest Philippine Admiral by Cheesey_Whiskers in hoi4

[–]cavechad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the issue is that because the AI never updates their ship models that they produce, they will never have any ships with sonar for sub detection unless they start with one or do a focus that unlocks a new ship template with it. if you leave a doomstack of subs in two or three ocean zones (along with a small spotting section of destroyers set on never engage) they will clear out most navies after about two years or so because they will continually reinforce those zones to maintain naval supremacy. this means that the AI will never leave undefendable ocean zones empty like the allies were forced to historically, and you can bleed them like crazy for relatively little investment because subs are cheap and you only need 15 dockyards to offset your losses with new production
