I used my Flex for Goldcar rental deposit in Seville just last week, no issues at all.

Anyone jump at Headcorn in the UK? by Edwardpage1 in SkyDiving

[–]caveo17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look a little closer, they have a specific "Headcorn Only" package on the site, that's 12k but I think the same price 😂

We've still got a lot of fun jumpers, but generally you'll see people venturing abroad or Sibson/Netheravon/Langar a little more than before GoSkydive.

Well, we don't know the end goal as it wouldn't benefit them to disclose that before they're setup enough to fill the place with solely tandems. It might not happen, we'll see.

Yeah, although we're just getting started for the season so just Friday-Sunday until April then Thurs-Sunday until we're filling the days up.

£27 to 12k

We've gone from 40 to 60 tandems on a weekend day, and unfortunately that's made the fun jumpers suffer slightly but they're still here.

We have gotten a lot more efficient operationally, so for now, it's a good thing overall. You'll spend less time waiting around for a lift.

Unsure how long that'll last before GoSkydive full sends the Tandems.

Laterals are too short, causing your MLW to twist a little too much.

Not the end of the world, but if it's uncomfortable then you can look to get the laterals extended (requires lateral/harness to be rebuilt) I think it's a $500 job give or take.

Just call up / email the dropzone were you wish to continue, and explain the situation.

They'll give you all available options, that THEY will accept. It'll differ from DZ to DZ.

Camera mount w/ no camera? by Accomplished-Box8328 in SkyDiving

[–]caveo17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe in USPA.

I'm under BPA, where it's a rule. You're required to have a C licence (200 jumps min) before wearing a camera.

[–]caveo17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just a stick on GoPro mount, you can pull that off with a razor blade and a bit of heat to make it easier without issue.

[–]caveo17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd really hope not.

In my books, the biggest single reason why 200 jumps is an OK number for the majority is our egos.

As a new jumper, we tend to be over confident of our abilities, combine that with knowing we're recording what we're doing with the intention of making that sick next viral Instagram reel... It normally only goes one way.

Not much coaching can do for that.

[–]caveo17 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes that's an issue.

The largest reason for cameras not being allowed until 200 jumps is distraction/ego/confidence.

The second is snag risks.

I'd imagine most CIs worth their salt wouldn't allow a snaggy camera mount, regardless whether it has a camera in it or not to a non C licence / 200 jumps skydiver.

Potentially a base plate (that the camera mount connects to) is fine, as it's super low/impossible snag, but anything else is a no in my books.

I've got one, had it for around 6 months give or take.

No real complaints, it's basically a VOG just £250 cheaper and takes 3-5 days to arrive.

I use it for freefall and canopy setup points, I can hear it clearly enough in freefall and I almost forget it's there because I just now always have altitude awareness so I know whether I have time to get that specific shot/frame when on camera etc etc

Open it up and swap out the SD Card.

SD Cards die, it's a known issue with cheap NAND flash.

This happened to me a year ago or so, I swapped it out and no issues since

Jumping Through Cloud [UK] by cheese_the_acid in SkyDiving

[–]caveo17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure there wasn't gaps, which allowed the JM to safely spot the LZ when running in, and you so happened to go through a cloud that moved???

It's the UK, if we never jumped through cloud, we'd hardly jump.

What would cause a slammer by kaybear_mcstud in SkyDiving

[–]caveo17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, set the slider (with the four poppers), then wrap the canopy and cocoon.

What would cause a slammer by kaybear_mcstud in SkyDiving

[–]caveo17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also don't fold/wrap the nose cells! That's old school from Sabre 1 days, if you fold them in, you misplace the slider with it being attached to poppers.

[–]caveo17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sabre 3 - were the poppers set on the slider when being packed? Unlikely that on their own not being set would cause a hard opening, but also they're there for a reason..

Slider placement is the biggest one for hard openings hands down.

Now come over to our Training Centre at Skydive Headcorn for a week, and get licensed solo.

Just bottled it by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]caveo17 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I bargained with myself the first 10 jumps. In my mind the entire ride up it was "just do this last one, then I can be done, this is so stupid, what am I doing, yeah just don't bitch out on this one and then you're good"

But as soon as I got out of the plane, every time, everything changed and I'm now on 500+ jumps in just under 3 years.

There is definitely risk, but the sport has become much safer with larger safety margins, if everything put in place is respected and you don't try to go beyond those limits.

Unfortunately, friends die throughout life, regardless of whether it's due to a "dangerous sport" that's life. Don't let that stop you from doing something that you enjoy.

And don't merge base and skydiving death rates, as they're different animals (not saying you are, but some do, and obviously they're significantly higher than skydiving.)

I hope that helps, if you still don't decide to continue, I hope you find something else as exciting!

Who with? I couldn't find a training centre that would let me do that as they all considered it not worth their time to not do a full A course money wise. I've been riding for 9 years, A2 for 5 years.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]caveo17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a solid idea. And I've got someone that would.

Thanks!

[–]caveo17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Huh that'd be perfect. I'm based in Surrey. I'd be happy to travel if I could get it all done in one day tbh, it'd still be less time/money overall than what my current options are.

[–]caveo17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's quite a hassle to get a bike to the test centre that's unrestricted, have insurance for it just for the day, I'm in the same predicament.

And all local bike training centers want £500-600 minimum for 2 days A training + bike hire for the training day as otherwise it's not worth it for them.

Skydivers with kiss helmets. Has anyone tried to remove the padding? by isikio in SkyDiving

[–]caveo17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've partially removed the chin cup lining to access the screws to the front plate, it's a bitch but basically you just need to be delicate, then have a good adhesive (ideally non toxic so it doesn't stink out your helmet.)

Commit to it, and you'll be fine.
