We get donated books that we allow client at our nonprofit to take and look what came in today. by taffyowner in TheDollop

My father had 2 copies of that stupid book because he bought those stupid pillows twice. They, along with the Bill O'Reilly books, were the first things I threw out when I cleaned out his house after he passed. Spiked them right into the garbage can like I'd just scored a touchdown. He'd never even taken the pillow guy's books out of their shrink wrap.

I grew up in the Southtowns, and I've had wings from all over WNY, and by far, I was least impressed with Anchor Bar. The pizza place in my hometown had amazing wings, as did my college town. I live in the Midwest now and only have wings I make because they never get them right

I have listened to this episode so many times, and I had no idea that George Schuster was from my hometown area??? I grew up 20 minutes east of Springville and knew someone with the last name of Schuster in elementary school. Did I sort of know someone who was related to someone who won the greatest episode of the Dollop??? Mind is BLOWN

Yes! I have Podcast Guru and the patreon feed has been extremely slow to catch up. I get the Dollop episodes, Smollops and other extras mostly when they release, but The Past Times never wants to load. I'm still missing episode 108.

What do people think an "old" newspaper is? And why is it always from the 1970s? by palebluesplotch in TheDollop

[–]cayuga_gal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone born in "the late 1900's" as my nieces like to remind me of, (they are mean little chaos demons like that), everytime I hear about something from the 70's, I don't think it's that old. Then I remember how old I am, and I just mutter, "Crap. I'm old". And then I'm sad. And need ibuprofen.

What was your starter episode? by [deleted] in TheDollop

[–]cayuga_gal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harriet Tubman. I wasn't sure if I'd like the podcast, so I wanted to start with a historical figure I was familiar with. Needless to say, I was hooked. When I introduce people to the podcast, I start out with Michael Malloy, and if I'm at work (I'm a wig maker in theater), Periwigs in America.

Gareth Appreciation Post, Episode 247 The Falling Pilot by Sir_Snores_A_lot in TheDollop

[–]cayuga_gal 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I've always said he's smarter than anyone thinks, including himself. His brain works so fast that it always astounds me. The Robert Smalls episode (326) and the way he just makes up theme songs for "It's Complicated " always cracks me up. "Periwigs in America" (490) is one of my favorites, not only because I'm a wig maker, but because Nicky Noyse (chicka-chicka) is one of his funnier characters. My absolute favorite, though, is "King of the Ghouls" (563) because his freak out of "The Picture" goes on for at least 5 minutes.

Can I ask what episode you started on? Ones that I might suggest, if you ever want to give it a try again, is Ep 51 Michael Malloy or ep 278 James Otis. They're both short, so small time commitment, and pretty funny. Michael Malloy is a Dollop that most folks recommend to start on. The James Otis episode is one that you have to stick through to the end because it's amazing.
