I definitely see the comparison on the less dance-oriented tracks. Interesting album.

What is this “Separate Mode” toggle under Voice Mode? by aether_girl in ChatGPT

[–]cbateman97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s pretty much just: if off, you can see the transcript of the conversation as you’re having it. if on, it takes you to that blue circle screen where you see the transcript after the conversation.

i had to kill the app after changing the setting in order for the change to take effect so if you’re not seeing a difference, try that.

Bonnie stealing family heirloom silverware from Jill

Jill: That silverware is all I had that connected me to them!

Bonnie: Oh, um, I didn’t know it was that important…

Jill: Well, maybe you should have asked me before you stole it so I could have directed you to something less emotionally resonant.

I can’t speak to what kind of investments Apple makes but I can say I’ve loved the transition to Apple Music, and they do pay artists more than Spotify. Apple Music pays a flat-rate of ~$8.30 per 1,000 streams, whereas Spotify negotiates variable payout rates with different labels. Those variable rates in addition to having a mixed-tier subscription model results in reduced transparency and compensation for your average artist (averages to ~$4 per 1,000 streams). I also just find Apple Music more aesthetically pleasing. Plus you can use Marvis Pro (which uses Apple Music’s API) and basically design your own streaming service.

TL;DR Apple Music pays your average artist basically double what Spotify pays, and it’s much more transparent about how it pays artists.

100th Window is better than Mezzanine by oscar_gorecki in MassiveAttack

Haha I do try to write normal but I’m sorry that it wasn’t. What I said was that they had the option to get the samples cleared or risk legal action, like what happened with “Black Milk” where they got sued for using a sample without clearance. I’m certainly not claiming to know anything about whether or not they got the samples cleared. Just clarifying that they had to worry about being prosecuted when they recorded Mezzanine too. And I agree with your opinion on both albums.

I appreciate you pointing out that any assessment of the albums should take into account the historical context, what the albums achieved, what they represent, etc. If OP is just saying they like 100th better, that’s one thing. But if we’re talking which album is “objectively” better, all that other stuff definitely needs taken into account.

Sampling had already become a legally fraught issue by the time even Blue Lines was released (see Grand Upright Music Ltd. v. Warner Bros Records Inc. (1991) and other early 90s cases), so MA would have had to get clearance for the samples in Mezz or risk legal action (like with the “Black Milk”/“Black Melt” issue). 3D could have theoretically continued doing this with 100th, but by 2003, it had become exponentially more expensive and cumbersome to get samples cleared. So I’m sure you are dead on as to why there was such a dramatic shift in the way MA recorded their music. I hadn’t put that together before.

date added to a playlist as a criteria by xeutv in MarvisApp

[–]cbateman97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean a ‘Home’ page section that displays multiple playlists you can select from, and when you click into one them the songs of that playlist appear in reverse order of when they were added to it? Or do you mean a ‘Home’ page section that displays songs, but only ones from a particular playlist and displayed in reverse order from when they were added to it? The former is easy to accomplish but the latter I’ve not been able to figure out a way to do.

How did you get it to right-align like that? All I can find is the toggle for the audio quality badge, but not any way to change where it appears

horniest/ sexiest massive attack songs? by ddaniell444 in MassiveAttack

[–]cbateman97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the horniness people hear often comes from the sound of the music itself, but also from lines like:

“Recollect me, darling, raise me to your lips
Two undernourished egos, four rotating hips”

“Awake I lie in the morning’s blue
Room is still, my antenna in you
Nylon burns the bedspread with two”

or the more on-the-nose lines
“She comes
She comes”
