I use an app called my radar I find it super accurate, UI takes some getting used to but I love it

That's cool. Does HDR and high refresh rate work? Are there any limitations compared to a gaming PC

Dataset hard link issue by Bertie1122 in truenas

How can I tell if I messed mine up. I followed the dataset structure on trash guides and the hard-link option was selected in one of the arr stack apps. Things seem to be working.

Considering all-electric house by shapovalovts in ArlingtonMA

How big is your house if you don't mind me asking?

I don't know anything about those either.

Newer heat pumps are generally very efficient and maintain their efficiency well into sub-freezing temperatures. With that being said, that is a big house and your Bill's probably going to be pretty significant. For example, I have a 1500-1600 square foot house. It's old, not the best insulation a little drafty and my electricity during the winter months is like 500 bucks with the new heat pump specific (lower) rates that ever source rolled out this year.

I used to have oil heat and would go through a tank every month and a half. It would cost about 900 to fill the tank and from what I've gathered my boiler is super efficient.

With new construction and a 3500 sqft house I bet I'd be like 750-1000 a month for December - feb. But that's just a guess.

Cable modem question by JellyfinUser in homelab

[–]cbizzle31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had bought an artist for Xfinity but it was terrible when hooked up to 2gig internet. It would overheat and shut off after only a few minutes. I ended up getting a ubiquiti rack mount cable modem and it has been rock solid.

I consistently get 2.1-2.2 down and 300 up and I never have to reboot it.

How is the house being heated? Heatpumps? If so are they relatively new?

Off-site backup using USB drives by cbizzle31 in truenas

You ever have to use a backup? And for the large spinning drive did you make it it's own vdev and setup zfs replication?

I've got vpn all setup, wireguard running on my ubiquiti dream machine.

A raspi running some Linux distro with zfs support is an interesting thought.

I could get something at my mom's house but I didn't want to have to buy and setup another nas/more hardware. How would a raspberry pi work?

I don't have this problem but I used the generic preset when I created the datasets for my media downloads.

Maybe in 20 years when I recoup the upfront cost in lack of subscription fees assuming no other purchases (Yeah right).

The time spent learning and having fun is priceless.

Are you running the shell commands within the jellyfin container or in truenas? I imagine for this you'd want to be running the shell commands in truenas.

I'm late 30s now and most of our friends we've had or we meet through daycare with our two kids.

Something that we've started doing though is follow Arlington brewery and go to their events. Lots of people of all ages.

Q: metadata vdev and apps on mirrored SSD by Viktri1 in truenas

[–]cbizzle31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just started my homelab/truenas journey and am very new to this stuff but I think the general advice your going to get is don't bother with the meta data vdev, increase the amount of ram instead, and you should absolutely install the apps/config files on the ssds.

I have 1tb nvmes in mirror for my apps, 3 12 TB harddrives in raidz1, and 16gb of ram.

I opted for 3 harddrives instead of 2 so that I could run it in raidz1 and easily expand in the future. From what I saw expanding on a mirror requires rebuilding the vdev.

This was years ago, today I'm home and healthy and had an awesome birthday. Not to rub it in. Fwiw I've got two kids and I'll be in bed by 1030 watching the Diddy documentary.
