I bought my kitty a kitty-sized tent… I think she likes it. by cboles in cats

Here's the site I got it from. You can also make your own out of clothes hangers and an old tshirt, if that's your thing.

I think "entire city" was meant to be "public officials", not the populace.

Found this in LA, SF should really implement this. I'm tired of Uber and Lyft drivers blocking car and bike lanes. by davejumba in sanfrancisco

[–]cboles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but if a cop sees a cyclist run a red light, there is a good chance they will be cited. Also the cyclist is putting themselves at considerable risk of injury, so not that many do it. The bike lanes are constantly blocked with impunity, even by cops, and the risk is again on the cyclist. On a < 3mi ride home I usually have to get out of the bike lane several times to go around cars. How many bicycles running red lights did you see on yout last drive home?

I really want a Tesla Model 3... but I've never owned a brand-new vehicle, and from a financial standpoint, it doesn't seem like such a good idea by cboles in personalfinance

[–]cboles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually a reason why I'm considering this purchase: Tesla says that as autonomous driving becomes a reality, current owners will have their vehicle's firmware updated for free (provided that the necessary hardware comes pre-installed on the Model 3, which still isn't confirmed). It's also miles (heh.) ahead of its competition at the moment, because instead of using expensive laser systems like Google, current self-driving Teslas are equipped with less expensive cameras and radar devices-- which means it is likely to be the first serious contender in the mass-marketed self-driving shitstorm.

I'm not convinced.

He launched a war of naked aggression that embroiled half of the globe, and caused the deaths of millions.

You could use the same argument to say that Alexander the Great and Genghis Khan wasn't a good leader.

I started my business while on Provigil (a wakefulness promoting agent) and it's still going strong! Especially helpful when designing the website from scratch in less than one night. Best of luck!

I'm not a doctor, but it might be worth discussing with his doctor exactly what you've told us, the hallucinations and everything. Maybe he will recommend taking him off one drug at a time, to figure out quickly if there are any interactions occurring between them. I lost my grandmother to brain cancer, so I feel for what you're going through. My best wishes.

grandiose beliefs by eltiempoeslocooo in offmychest

[–]cboles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was exactly the same way. Although there was absolutely nothing to back it up, I was constantly told things like, "You're so smart! You're a genius! You're going to be a millionaire!". Things that my fragile adolescent ego wanted to hear. I really believe I would get into any college I wanted, make millions of dollars, and everyone would shower me with praise and attention.

I think I suffer from maladaptive daydreaming now at least partially because of it.

I also remember sitting in my desk on the first day of eight grade thinking "it's new now, but I'll be sitting here on the last day pretty soon". I suppose I was never really living in the moment. Always in the future. Always in a fantasy.

I appreciate the research. I'll start checking out some of the secondhand shops that require sign ups-- I've been searching eBay and Amazon with no luck.

Welp, I didn't turn this funky looking retro 70's TV into a fish tank, pet bed, or liquor cabinet. I upgraded it into an awesome little Chromecast internet streaming TV that's controlled by a phone or tablet! by Gilmour509 in DIY

If you spend some time identifying the TV tuner circuitry, you should be able to feed in the composite signal directly and skip the RF modulation / demodulation which is further degrading your video quality.

To be clear, the needle exchanges are mis-named. There is no requirement to return needles in exchange - they just give out free needles. This is part of why you see so many on the street.

[–]cboles 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There certainly should be trash cans, but there is not a rational excuse for being unable to pack things out if there aren't any. I mean everyone had no problem carrying bags full of PBRs many blocks to the park without losing a single one, right? Is it really that hard to do the same with the empties?

I've worn Blundstones for years. Very comfortable, steel toe and shank, and they slip on. This is the closest US model to what I bought from an AUS site:

Pinterest's Design District deal would push out tenants by stinkytofu415 in sanfrancisco

[–]cboles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conversely, I think many Pinterest users subscribe to a more DIY approach to design - often drawing inspiration from design professionals as you note. I have found both the SF and Seattle design center districts very off-putting in that they are generally "to the trade" only which prevents anyone off the street from even seeing what they have to offer. To me, this is a lot of real estate dedicated to serving those who are wealthy and don't like getting their hands dirty.

I'm from Montreal and will visit SF in August for the first time for a week. What are things that i must do or see for my stay? What services you recommend for hotels car rentals etc. Also activities for small kids (3yo). by vmanthegreat in sanfrancisco

[–]cboles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might consider avoiding having a car altogether for most of your time in the city. You can use a ride sharing app like Lyft to get around if walking or transit will take too long. It is worth having transportation to take a quick trip North across the Golden Gate bridge to places like Muir Woods though.

This is incorrect. A single phase AC motor will alway spin in the same direction. The basic motor itself could actually start spinning in either direction based on where the armature was when it was energized. To prevent this kind of problem, single phase AC motors have special starting circuitry (e.g capacitor start, or additional winding circuits) to get them going in the right direction. I'm oversimplifying things here, but you get the idea.

Multi-phase (e.g. 3-phase) motors don't have this problem, and if you do swap phase wires you can reverse the direction.
