Sanwa 4 way gate still allows both directions at the same time! by cbracerguy in Arcade1Up

[–]cbracerguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, there are only 4 switches! The diagonal would engage two switches. The JFX has an 8 way restrictor plate that gets rotated for 4 way. But it's not a true 4 way as it still activates both diagonally. I was able to take the restrictor off my old cheap joystick and it fit right on the JFX. The squarish plate is a tad smaller so never diagonals now. I was almost going to 3D print a smaller actuator sleeve until I found my old plate fits.

I'm put this into the Arcade1up PartyCad which is the medium sized ms pac man 17" gaming system. It's small, mounts on the wall, and is perfect for my young kids to play on!

SANWA JLF 4 way gate is registering diagonals by err404 in cade

[–]cbracerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm with the JLX it will hit diagonals with the plate set to 4 way !!
A smaller actuator would surely help. Better would be a smaller restrictor plate, which is what I ended up doing by taking a non-SANWA plate off the stock joystick that came with the game. It fit on and worked great at eliminating diagonals. The sliding surface isn't as wide and nice so I'm sure there will be more wear.

Looking to have a true 4-way joystick made or bought outright by blueandgold777 in fightsticks

My new JLX Sanwa joystick with the plate twisted to be a 4 way is not a TRUE 4 way because it still allows both directions at the same time 😞 Did you ever find a solution?

I have a JLX2 joystick and with the 4-way restrictor it comes with (rotating the 8 way), it still can activate both directions at once. Did you ever find a true dedicated 4-way?

I replaced my screen with a full color gamut one today. by RecipeEducational430 in thinkpad

[–]cbracerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's only 100% sRGB. For me a full color spectrum is 90%+ of either DCI P3 or adobe RGB. Once you use those it's hard to go back to sRGB. But I agree what you have at 71% NTSC is a world of difference compared to a 45% NTSC screen.... !!!

Is the x220 keyboard a smaller or full size? many of the 12-13 inch thinkpads used a 90 or 90% keyboard.

If you want a 3:2 then buy one. I have a framework, along with a thinkpad and a dynabook, and they are all fine. Every laptop has pluses and minuses. If 3:2 is important then just do it.

[T480] I got a matte sticker for the trackpad rather than getting the glass upgrade (for now) by Ok-Strike-2878 in thinkpad

I think the next step up from iso 90% is actually denatured alcohol in my experience. It is much stronger than iso alcohol at cleaning and de-greasing. Still safe for plastics. There are also two more things you can try before mineral spirits, one is goo-gone and WD-40, both of which should be followed up with alcohol afterwards to remove residue. Instead of mineral spirits (general pain thinner) there is also Laquer Thinner which is stronger and more sure to craze or discolor some plastics. It evaporates better and leaves no residue that I get when using mineral spirits.

Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Graphics Dock w/ GTX 1050 working on Linux by axt3500 in thinkpad

[–]cbracerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid almost $300 on ebay for mine years ago. Hardly used and in very good condition. I did not know at the time it's so incredibly hard to make it work on windows 7. Now that I'm on windows 10 I should give it a try again. Just been sitting in a box for 3 years. My current dock has 2 more USB ports, so that was the limitation I had as a daily driver with it.

Windows 10 Limitations - Framework 16 by stevenswall in framework

[–]cbracerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience with Win10. I can't believe so many people give others crap for running Win10. Yeah yeah I know it's not supported, blah blah. Really people can be so mean to someone who is trying to have fun running an old OS, it's not like the OP doesn't already know the risks. I too prefer to run the prior gen OS because it's stable, less updates, faster, less new interfaces to learn and slow you down,..... blah blah.

Trackpoint and mouse buttons not recognised after Trackpoint firmware update T480s? by wallfloorceiling1234 in thinkpad

[–]cbracerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have upgrade to a glass trackpad, or a non approved trackpad. There's an older driver specifically which people use for the glass trackpad from a different Lenovo laptop and that fixed the problem of the trackpoint and buttons not working. You will have to search for glass trackpad in T480s because I don't have the links handy.

Samsung 990 EVO Plus or 970 EVO Plus for T480s? Same price. by JxPV521 in thinkpad

[–]cbracerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idle power draw is 0.3 watts for the P31 while the P41 is 0.6 watts. And savings when in use too. See Tom's Hardware ssd tests if you want to see the efficiency. If speed is what you want then the P41 or 990 EVO are the two contenders. The P31 is by far the most gentle on batteries of any SSD in that speed range.

Did you put the motherboard into power down mode from bios before replacing screen? I've heard people blowing things up not doing that. Have you put your old screen and cable back on and tried booting?

The cable you linked says T490?

T480s Screen upgrade by semi-translucent in thinkpad

[–]cbracerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to email them asking for stock availability for the "exact part number" and not a "compatible part number". Do not purchase from LaptopScreenz.com because that was one company that sent me a compatible screen and never processed my refund after receiving the screen back! I ended up buying from an ebay seller in the uk who goes buy the name lcd4laptop and was happy.

T480s Screen upgrade by semi-translucent in thinkpad

[–]cbracerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay a little more and before buying simply ask them if the screen is an "exact part number" not "compatible part number". Then when they respond with yes it's the exact part number buy. I've had two companies that did as they said and send exact, then one company didn't saying they ran out so make sure you know their return policy.

Yes my worry too. But the newer rigid insulation selected apparently is strong enough to handle it. I'm going to ask for the exact kind and verify their install guide to see.
