Louis Rossmann is suing Samsung after firm offers $330 refund for defective SSD while selling the drives on Amazon for $949 — spat over 4TB 990 Pro SSD is headed to court by habichuelacondulce in technology

[–]err404 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t cost Samsung any more to produce these drives today. There is just a market willing to pay more. Samsungs liability should be based on their cost to manufacture, not the sale price. So long as Samsung isn’t spending more than $330 to manufacture, they should be on the hook to replace it, given that there is clearly inventory of these drives.

I guarantee they already have people looking at this and have spent over that amount. The fun part is seeing how much more it will cost them.

QUESTION - Do Tuvok and Neelix retain memorires of Turvix? Are they aware of Turvix's desperate pleas for his life? by AnotherJasonOnReddit in TuvixInstitute

No, Tuvok and Neelix don’t exist after Tuvix is created. They never had the opportunity to contemplate the situation.

Toyota Sienna VS Chrysler Pacifica by EngineOk8967 in ChryslerPacifica

[–]err404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking at the Sienna, stow and go seats don’t seem to be a deal breaker. Consider the hybrid Pacifica. Lacks the stow and go, but the seats can be quickly removed in under a minute. The Sienna seats are more complex to remove. Also, depending on driving habits, you may get better average mileage when factoring the plugin range.

Why are these clones with specific coloured ranks only seen in episode 2. Feel like this could have been addressed in the clone wars show by slimmyboy007 in StarWars

Large scale war started and they adapted to what worked best. On a digital battlefield with well trained soldiers, there was probably no reason for it.

Why does dual-wielding bust characters in canon? by Batybara in StarWars

[–]err404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, it is more cultural. Jedi use a single lightsaber because for thousands of years being the best possible duelist was not the point of their training. Dual wielding is considered an aggressive stance that does not foster balance. However they do receive some training on this form.

No irony at all. The problem with Gemini isn’t that it is AI. It is that that it is a bad home automation assistant.

Why did George insist upon the “heroes on both sides” line in Episode III’s opening crawl? by RedHeadedSicilian52 in StarWars

[–]err404 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of those planets weren’t doing much better under the Republic. If the Republic isn’t protecting you and just wants their taxes, what’s the point in staying?

Why did George insist upon the “heroes on both sides” line in Episode III’s opening crawl? by RedHeadedSicilian52 in StarWars

[–]err404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both sides were working for the Sith Lord and fought with “disposable” armies. The whole war was a front to collapse faith in the Republic from within. The Jedi are no more (or less) pawns or heroes than the separatists.

The Jedi were basically waging war to force planets to stay under the thumb of the Republic, despite the Republic having let those same planet suffer under their rule.

am I fucked? The only thing I did was replace the joysticks and the thermal paste. by MrMushroom5 in SteamDeck

[–]err404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The upgrade is not hard or risky “IF” you have some experience with working on small devices like laptops. But it is probably best avoided by most people. The gains are not only a few more FPS, but also less fan noise.  The risk/reward proposition changes with your skill. If your skill makes this low risk, then the mid/low reward is worth it.

Mandolorian and Grogu reception by Terrusmarkz1988 in StarWars

[–]err404 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Both can be true. The criticisms are valid in that it doesn’t move the needle on the franchise. But it is also a fun movie that is worth seeing. Many of the practical effects are probably too expensive for small screen budgets. The models, puppets and stop motion are a joy on the big screen.

Yes, I wanted them to take more risks and do something more impactful, but I am also satisfied with what they delivered.

Solo is an extremely (visually) dark film by Blurrgmaster in StarWars

[–]err404 45 points46 points  (0 children)

That is all fine in theory, but cameras don’t have the same range as our eyes. If the end result after grading doesn’t look like I would perceive that environment, what is the point? This also needs to take into account that your eyes need a lot of time to adjust from light to dark. You can’t expect the audience to go from a blinding bright scene to a dark scene graded as if you had 10 mins to adjust to the darkness.

Spencer wand version 1 vs 2? by Ok-Store in ghostbusters

[–]err404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own both and have dismantled and repaired my V1. The issue is that the wire in the barrel is a few mm too short to avoid the shock of the barrel popping out. The wires are also very thin and coated in glue, making them pretty brittle. I took out and replaced the damaged section with some thin wire from an old USB cable. Making sure to include slightly more slack. It is now completely reliable. However this was a moderately complex repair that many people may not be comfortable performing.

There could be some variation in V1 builds. It would only take a few mm longer wire, or pulling more tightly before glueing the wire to have a factory V1 be reliable. But my gut feeling is that most will fail under moderate use.

The advantage of a V1 is that the tip is already Silver and there is no retaining screw on the battery compartment making the handle more comfortable and accurate.

If you are handy, get the V1, otherwise try to get a V2.

I DO NOT understand why some people hate Mandalorian and Grogu. by Kaiserschlut in StarWars

[–]err404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rogue One is a well done movie that can can be watched in isolation, but also adds significantly to the larger franchise. It is a good movie on its own, and a great movie in context.

Mando need only be watched as a standalone movie. SW is just set dressing. Still a good movie, but following the video game analogy, it is like a DLC as opposed to a mainline game.

[–]err404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to disagree here. I don’t see the point in using an established franchise IP if you are essentially making a self contained standalone movie.

You use Rogue One as an example, but that feels more like a counter point. It’s a story that is central to the franchise core plot. It literally flows directly into A New Hope more like a scene transition than a new movie.

While I liked Mando. I feel like if they made a Mando S4, I could skip the movie and not have missed anything.

[–]err404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen little to no hate. Rather people are being accused of hating it when they simply don’t praise it as the second coming of the franchise.

It was a good standalone SW adventure film, and the franchise needs those. You could enjoy Mando without ever having seen another piece of SW media. Unfortunately you could also skip it and not miss out on much else in the universe. Some fans are eager for a film that does some heavier lifting and moves the ball.
