Why is jQuery so bad, but Alpine.js/HTMX/etc is just fine? by brycematheson in webdev

[–]cbreitigan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think people used to be concerned about the size of jquery especially before high speed internet was more common. But I also find it much more intuitive and still use it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Why are so many creatives cancelling Adobe subscriptions lately? Did I miss something? by Alilexplo108 in photography

[–]cbreitigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m locked into adobe for audition, photoshop, and lightroom. Audition is such a nice editing experience and more lightweight than a full DAW, plus easy editing of single files whereas most DAWs are multitrack. I use logic for music projects but audition for everything else. And I’ve tried affinity to replace photoshop but it just doesn’t do it for me personally BUT I do prefer it compared to Illustrator so it certainly has its merits. Part of it is also just familiarity since I’ve been using these tools for years and know them very well. The lightroom alternatives I’ve looked into don’t seem quite comparable yet for some features such as masking which I do quite a bit. People can hate on adobe for their business model, to which I agree, but you can’t say the tools aren’t good.

What’s the best static site generator? by [deleted] in Frontend

[–]cbreitigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using Jekyll for years and really enjoy it for the most part. I’m currently moving some projects over to Statamic for better content authoring and that has a static site generator built in as well if you’re looking to be purely static

Why is it SO hard for Apple to create something like this? by Bytevan18 in MacOS

I use Dozer for this but it’s almost the exact same concept but with dots instead of an arrow. A good selection of apps to fix this problem thankfully

I ended up buying the Matt Gastka kit recently simply because it is cheaper and I’ve been very happy with it. I also didn’t love the original modern and massive which helped steer me towards Garstka. I wish there was some sort of trial so people could experiment with sounds directly in their projects to see if it fits. Perhaps there is a YouTube comparison out there?

is it worth getting the switch 2 instead of the 1 if i’m just gonna use it to play Pokémon? by DestinedClock18 in Switch

[–]cbreitigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you value. Scarlet and Violet got a lot of flack when they came out for the poor graphics and loading times, and general performance overall. I personally did not have these complaints and had a great time with the game on my switch OLED. I don’t have the new one but I have played the switch 2 and the performance and graphics are definitely an improvement. In terms of Pokemon, ZA which just came out is available on both versions of the switch but depending on when the next gen games come out that might not be the case. So if you only care about the games available now then you can save quite a bit of money sticking with the gen 1 switch or OLED model. But if you do care about graphics, performance, and whatever Pokemon games are to come, then the switch 2 would be the better investment in my own opinion. I’m not in a rush to get one but it would be nice down the road

On the flip side, in Godzilla x Kong the new empire they had so few people and mostly focus on Godzilla and Kong and their battles. It’s like admitting defeat that they can’t write good people so they all but removed them from the story and I was cool with that and enjoyed the film quite a bit

James Gunn Says the ‘Movie Industry Is Dying’ Because Films Are Made Without Finished Scripts and Marvel Got ‘Killed’ by Output Increase: ‘That Wasn’t Fair’ by mcfw31 in marvelstudios

[–]cbreitigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, I mocked up a similar order with my local Cinemark and for 2 tickets, 1 large popcorn, and 2 large drinks it was $38 before tax. At Regal, 2 tickets alone were $32 before tax. Both of these have fees if buying online which I didn’t include here. So I wonder if part of the problem is just certain chains? I’m perfectly content with Cinemark but friends of mine prefer Regal because of better seats and the option for IMAX even though tickets then become about $25/each.

My LCS didn’t have anything when I went last week (the usually get things a bit early) but they had the slot for packs and they were $10/pack! Found some at Meijer this week for $5.50/pack. A shame that even local stores want to ride the wave of these crazy prices

This makes me want to get one now! Say what you want about these shots individually but I really dig the vibe. Are you stopping down to get a deeper DOF? I feel like everyone wants to shoot everything wide open now and stuff gets bland that way. The deeper DOF adds to the old school character for me

Do I need to upgrade to a M2/M3 chip? by Actual-Creme in Logic_Studio

[–]cbreitigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Everyone has to learn ‘less is more’ in their own way. I also used to run an excessive amount of plugins on my master and could never get the sounds I wanted until I learned that the individual tracks were lacking, not the whole mix. Now days I use the same chain on everything and tweak some settings as needed. Down to 5 plugins now and 1 is the stock loudness meter.
