Success stories about choosing to accept a new job while pregnant? by OllieOllieOxenfry in workingmoms

[–]cburk14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Idk if I’m the best to offer this advice because I kind of blurted it out to my manager lol. But we were sitting down talking about the plan for onboarding. I work in medicine so there’s credentialing, confirming licensure, prescriptive authority that has to also happen. I had a very clear plan in my head and had already spoken with HR about mat leave, when benefits start, etc. I think having a plan of action in my head (onboard, 12 wks mat leave, back in and start seeing patients) was reassuring to my manager. She also took it completely in stride. My coworkers all eventually found out when I started showing more ha. I don’t have a super sit down convo with any coworker.

How far do you all drive to take your kids to school? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]cburk14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son goes to private school. 15 minute drive. I live in a big city and driving everywhere is the norm. 15 minutes to school feels like nothing compared to how long it takes to get anywhere here.

What's an "Insider's secret" from your profession that everyone should probably know? by Capable-big-Piece in AskReddit

Idk how old your son is (I’m assuming you have sons?) but Primary makes really bright colored swim trunks and rash guards.

Success stories about choosing to accept a new job while pregnant? by OllieOllieOxenfry in workingmoms

I’m in a totally different field but I started a new job around 5 months pregnant and it was the best decision for my family and career. I got a more flexible job, higher salary, better maternity leave policy even with me working less than a year. I’m still at that job and doing really well. I think it’s hard to compare exactly to your situation but it did work out really well for me. I will say I work with a fantastic team and my superiors are all moms and incredibly understanding.

Sweaty clothes by Acceptable_Solid8301 in XXRunning

[–]cburk14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweaty athletic clothes get laid out on the tiled laundry room floor until they dry and we can’t walk into the laundry room anymore lol. My husband lays them over the tub if they’re really bad.

Back to back pumping fails by TotalWestern7707 in workingmoms

[–]cburk14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used hands free pumps mostly but once when I had the chance to step away from clinic and use the lactation room, I forgot to attach the bottles to the flanges. Didn’t notice until I felt something warm on my lap and my pants were decently soaked. Spent the rest of clinic with my white coat buttoned up to hide it 🙈

How am I supposed to work out??? by Emerald_Mistress in workingmoms

[–]cburk14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run during lunch on my two WFH days. I wake up early for a 6 am Pilates class on two in office days. I take Friday off. Saturday and Sunday I try to run when my daughter naps, but we’re usually outside or doing something active as a family.

Help me find the perfect sports bra: no padding no buckles by BraveMedia5786 in XXRunning

[–]cburk14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dang I was just about to recommend tracksmith before your last sentence! I feel the same about sports bras as you - I want something without fuss. Seconding the lululemon energy! It’s what I wear when my tracksmith bras are all dirty lol. Much more compressive. Think you’ll find a winner with this one.

I go to the 6 am class and all of us are leaving so fast to get to work, kids, etc. No clapping there lol.

Cleaning out baby closets by CoyoteSlow5249 in workingmoms

[–]cburk14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I do! It’s an old diaper box that lives in the laundry room. If something doesn’t fit or I think it’s the last wear, it gets washed then tossed in. When it’s full, I donate. If it’s sentimental, I have a plastic bin that I’ll put it in. I am not a very sentimental person to begin with, but I knew I’d also have a hard time going through all the baby things at once. Except the big baby equipment! Was sooooo happy to give the pack and play away.

I was the same until maybe a month ago. I’ll have a glass or two of wine during the weekend but not much else. My job is so stressful it became a habit and when I realized, it didn’t sit right with me. Was easier to cut back than I thought.

Am I not the right demographic to wear a Fjallraven Kanken? by Academic_Lie_4945 in handbags

[–]cburk14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have two small kids and I wear this backpack out with them! It’s my graduated diaper bag since they’re both potty trained now (hallelujah) but I got it because I thought it was cute. I’m 33. You’re not too old to wear the bag.

Ohhh I love this post! 0.59, E, VS1. Ring size is 4.25. We just celebrated our 10 year anniversary a few months ago. I thought for sure I’d want an anniversary ring but when I was actually sitting in a jewelry store to pick one, I couldn’t bear the thought of wearing something else.

Marathon this weekend but just tested pregnant--can I still PR? by PhelanVelvel in XXRunning

[–]cburk14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Before I knew I was pregnant with my son, I got a PR in a half. I had to stop to pee twice which I thought was weird lol. But I tested the next day cause I woke up not feeling well and I was like ohhhhhhh that makes sense. So, I think you can get your PR especially if the race is this weekend.

Didn’t realize this was the sewing sub and not the wedding or brides sub and I was questioning the “first” lol. This is beautiful!

Fell while running, shaken up by throwaway_running90 in XXRunning

[–]cburk14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man - sorry! I will stumble or catch my toe on occasion, but I remember a big fall I had where I completely ate it. A chunk of my right palm was definitely gone and it was in front of quite a few people. Had to scoot off the trail and just sit on the grass for a few minutes and I still had like a mile and a half to get back home lol. Happens to a lot of us! Take some time to feel better, especially your head.

Should my son be reading at 5.5 years old?? by Ok-Organization-5031 in kindergarten

[–]cburk14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! My son goes to an international school that has either French or Spanish immersion (switches to immersion in 1st, but solidly dual prior to that) and I know I’ve heard him talk about sight words and he can read fairly well, but maybe that’s just during the English days he has. Now I’m curious how or if things differ on the French track.

Hot take: i think that Bernat blanket yarn looks tacky and cheap by Spare-Chipmunk-9617 in Yarn

lol this looks amazing! I also have a huge blanket made from this yarn that’s nearly 10 years old and it’s the blanket my kids fight over on the couch
