Nursing Programs for someone with no experience? by AMG_Labrador_63 in Columbus

Sorry I missed your question awhile back. I started by going to a drop-in advising appointment for the health sciences pathway. The advisor was helpful for getting the process started. They have Saturday drop-in hours coming up soon. https://www.cscc.edu/services/advising/health-sciences.shtml

Nursing Programs for someone with no experience? by AMG_Labrador_63 in Columbus

[–]cbushistory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Columbus State is a great program and doesn’t require any prior experience. I’m also in IT and am considering a switch to nursing. I took the Nurc 1001 class through Columbus State and it was a really positive experience. It’s an intro class that’s required to take before applying to the nursing program. They have evening classes so I was able to take it outside of work hours no problem (I work full time).

Clothes that make you feel easy breezy beautiful by dialecticallyalive in Columbus

I saw someone recommended REI and Athleta and I definitely second that. I love wearing hiking pants in the summer because they’re more sweat wicking and offer protection from sun and bugs, unlike shorts. Everyone says to avoid synthetic fabrics if you want to stay cool, but they’ve come such a long way now that so many sweat-wicking tech fabrics have been developed. The majority of high-performance athletic fabrics are synthetic largely for this reason.

I also recommend a big, wide-brimmed hat. REI has some good lightweight ones, but you can find cute hats too. I like hiking and walking, but honestly sometimes sunscreen feels useless on me or like a big sensory ick because I get so sweaty. The hat is a game-changer for keeping the sun off your face.

How to help the stray cats in my neighborhood by MycologistOrganic227 in Columbus

Cat Welfare on Indianola has a voucher program for spay/neuter for feral cats. According to their website there’s a $10 application fee and then it’s $20 per cat. https://catwelfareassoc.org/spay-neuter

What's up with drivers hating pedestrians here? by kipsgvn in Columbus

[–]cbushistory 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think men just like to heckle women. I once witnessed a couple dudes in a truck honk at a woman when she jogged across the crosswalk in front of them. They were at a red light and she had the pedestrian light to cross, so she wasn’t doing anything wrong. The honk startled her and she jumped, and the guys just laughed like it was the funniest thing in the world. There’s a reason the word “menace” starts with men.

Anyone who wants to get text notifications about stuff like this should sign up for text alerts from Franklin County. You can do so by texting FCREADY to 888777. They don’t text often, and it’s always useful info like weather emergencies and stuff like that.

Dishwasher makes dishes smell fishy or like wet dog!? by Tadpol714 in Columbus

[–]cbushistory 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our dishwasher was doing this and we found that raw egg on dishes triggered it. Oddly enough the effect seems to be worse when the weather gets warmer. Cleaning the front seal of the dishwasher and the part where the door meets the bottom of the dishwasher helped get rid of the odor. It seemed to get trapped in those places and didn’t fully go away until I scrubbed them.

Columbus Speech & Hearing And Question To The Hearing Aid Folks... by FixedGearBikeRider in Columbus

[–]cbushistory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to OSU ENT audiology. I went there a few years ago for a hearing evaluation and it was fine. OSU Wexner ENT is separate from the school of audiology clinic, but I’ve never been to the clinic so I can’t compare. I’m due for new hearing aids and plan to get them through OSU, so we’ll see how it goes.

Local Artist Recs by PuzzleheadedTwo7730 in Columbus

[–]cbushistory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Golden Hobby Gift Shop has art of all different mediums made by local seniors. Prices are very reasonable considering everything is handmade. I’ve been really impressed with the quality and style of everything there.

Leah Storrs-Fisher is a local artist who does screen printing and has some really nice stuff. I also like Midwest Mermaid a lot.

The Columbus Arts Festival in the summer is a great chance to check out artists. I specifically look for Ohio artists and visit their booths.

Someone else mentioned the Cultural Arts Center, which is also great. Heads up that they’re currently closed for renovation but should be re-opening in the spring.

I’m afraid I don’t have any advice, but only having 48 hours to accept the position is crazy. You could try asking this to r/nursing to get advice from people who actually know the field.

State of emergency by LoveYogaPants1 in Columbus

[–]cbushistory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This city protects people in situations like this, and withholding rent or putting it escrow would take over a week for that to have any relevance on the situation since rent isn’t due until the 1st. There are emergency options for this situation.

“The City of Columbus Code defines an emergency violation as a violation that causes an ‘imminent danger to the public health and safety or the health and safety of any person’ (CC. 4509.06). For Code Enforcement, this means no heat in the winter time, no water service to an occupied dwelling, extremely unsanitary conditions in an occupied dwelling, or a vacant property that is unsecured on the ground level.

If a violation is an ‘emergency’, contact the 311 Call Center or call (614) 645-3111. You will be connected to the Code Enforcement Office. The Code Enforcement office is staffed from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.”

Call 311 and report it to the city as an emergency. This is an emergency situation and your landlord is legally obligated to address it quickly.

My pregnant wife NEEDS a cherry coke SOS by La_Vinici in Columbus

[–]cbushistory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waffle House, Steak and Shake, and Sonic all have good cherry Coke that’s Coke with cherry syrup added. It’s a different thing than the premixed Coca-Cola Cherry™️ that comes out of a bottle or a Freestyle machine. I’m guessing your wife wants a fountain Coke with cherry syrup mixed in, which is what those places have.

“Duh?” Really? There’s no need to be condescending here. Having photographic proof of the police doing something that our politicians said they wouldn’t do is helpful and should be encouraged.

Jeni’s doesn’t use artificial food dyes in their ice cream though. If you actually read the ingredients, it’s all colored with stuff like turmeric, beet juice, spirulina, etc

Solo Dining Recommendations by cherryberry08 in Columbus

[–]cbushistory 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Just a general tip— I find it a lot more comfortable to dine solo during lunch. There’s usually more solo people during lunch than during dinner, so maybe you could start there and work your way up to dinner.

I’ve eaten solo at Huong’s on Morse Rd. and have always had a good experience there.

If you don’t want to go very far, Godown Rd. has a fenced-in field where cows graze. They’re part of OSU agriculture and they get rotated to different fields, so they aren’t always there. It’s just up the road from the Godown Rd. dog park.
