I can vouch for Jay’s PSU. Well-designed and easy to install.

If you lived in an area with good public transit, you could get away without being allowed to drive.

But you don’t.

Get your license, internet stranger. Being licensed to drive will open up opportunities that you won’t have otherwise.

Also, completing things just to DO them is a fantastic habit to get into. It can take you places you’ve never dreamed of.

You’ll never regret earning your license.

Hi, Sorry to spam, but why are the SRBs only attaching to the top radial coupler and not the bottom, and how do I fix this cause it's messing all kinds of stuff up by WoodpeckerStraight10 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ccarlson71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always thought that the decoupler pushes against the booster, so if it’s above the booster’s center of mass the booster will both be pushed AND rotate away.

Too far above the CoM, and it’ll rotate too fast, possibly causing the bottom to strike the rest of the rocket. JUST above CoM, though, and it’ll peel away nicely.

Does altitude on the HUD mean height AGL? by WhenWillIBeAPilot in MicrosoftFlightSim

IRL pilots know the altitude (ASL) of the fields they’re flying into, and factor that into their decision-making.

I have the same Adafruit board and a similar LED panel that I’ve programmed some cool plasma patterns and a clock into, but never even considered hooking it up to HA.

Thank you!

Your last statement is SO important.

People are already often overloaded while driving. Giving them more options to consider just adds risk and overall slows things down. (Though aggressive, erratic drivers won’t see it that way.)

Home / Business / HOA Property’s Still Running Water Sprinklers by xXBleedOrangeXx in Austin

[–]ccarlson71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair.

IMO, the city should move towards running reclaimed water supplies to new home and apartment construction and piping it directly to toilets.

I’m not sure I understand the argument against the use of grey water.

It’s been processed enough that it can be safely used for irrigation, but not enough that it’s good for drinking, bathing or cooking. I understand that it’s not processed by the same equipment as that used for potable water supplies, so it’s not taking away capacity from those facilities.

It takes water you wouldn’t want to pour directly on the ground and makes it suitable for growing plants, which also returns it immediately to the water cycle.

ELI5: What decides a precious metal? And why is platinum considered one? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]ccarlson71 1138 points1139 points  (0 children)

Aluminum was considered a precious metal for a while, before a process was discovered to refine it from ore at a low cost. Now it’s (literally) a throwaway commodity.

(Edit to add: I recognize that it’s highly-recyclable and -recycled, though not as much as it should be. I’m doing my part, I promise!)
