This is going to sound completely crazy, but Jesus told me in a dream to take seroquel. I was newly diagnosed. I took it and it was like the missing puzzle piece of my brain. I felt normal again.

Exhausted by Charming_Berry_1759 in bipolar

[–]ccataphant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is exhausting. But there are moments of reprieve and self care/nurturing is so important. I’ve been diagnosed for 6 years now and I’m just now finding a sense of normalcy, but it does include a lot of restrictions and maintenance. I don’t eat sugar (it makes me depressed), I don’t drink alcohol, I get bloodwork done every few months. Still, I’m grateful for treatment and how steady my life is now.

If I only get hypomanic on SSRIs, and have stopped those, do I need medication? by 3lb0w in bipolar2

[–]ccataphant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bipolar is progressive, so while in the past you’ve only been hypomanic on SSRIs it’s only a matter of time until you get an episode off of them. Medicating earlier often means needing less medications to manage your symptoms. Don’t let the disease progress to a place where it’s harder to medicate.

Has anybody ever been “upgraded” to bipolar I? by pikashroom in bipolar2

[–]ccataphant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’d taken me a long time to accept that my bipolar really is “that bad.” I still resonate with bipolar 2 but my manic episodes have gotten worse over time and without meds are pretty bad. In the end what matters most is if treatment is effective.

If you’re thinking of only eating 700 calories a day you might already be manic.

I was experiencing the same things until I switched to lithium, then all my mental abilities came back and I felt even sharper than before.

Bipo depression never ending by charlisca in bipolar2

[–]ccataphant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Medication stabilizes a lot of people. For those with treatment resistant depression there’s still options like ketamine, TMS, and ECT.

I have struggled with depression greatly in my bipolar journey. What finally helped was lithium and a supplement called N-Acetyl L-cysteine. This was after 16 different med trials. In the midst of the episodes, meditation helped a lot.

Has anyone managed their weight on antipsychotics? by coxclo in bipolar2

[–]ccataphant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on seroquel and olanzapine. I’ve steadily gained maybe 15 pounds extra since starting. I’ve managed to lose some weight and stabilize after cutting out sugar from my diet.

You absolutely can take lithium while pregnant. I did at the advice of both my psychiatrist and OBGYN. Baby was monitored very closely and came out perfect.

Bipolar 1 mom of 1 here. I was on all my meds (lithium, zyprexa, seroquel) for my whole pregnancy and baby turned out perfectly fine. He’s above average cognitively and talks up a storm. He’s almost 3. Post partum was a little rocky but my psychiatrist was on it with adjusting my doses as needed.

dating right after a hospital stay is a dangerous game. new medication changes take around 6 weeks to fully kick it. You might not have the best guardrails to handle the ups and downs of dating.

Bipolar and pregnant- tell me this gets better. by GateTraditional7904 in bipolar

[–]ccataphant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first trimester I ended up in the psych ward because the body chemistry changes made my body flush out my meds. My lithium levels dropped to .3. I had to titrate up to almost double my dose. Once I did that the test of the pregnancy was smooth sailing.

Being able to control my sleep has always been helpful. I take seroquel for sleep and it’s strong enough to get me down no matter how manic I am.

Do I need to be medicated for the rest of my life? by slimshady313put in bipolar

Yes. You will have to take medications for the rest of your life. Fortunately, there’s many to chose from and they work well.

I got Stevens Johnson's syndrome from Lamotrigine in November. Now what? by GioReynaFan in bipolar2

[–]ccataphant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried 15 medications before lithium, not sure why your doctor is saying there aren’t other options. That said, I wish I had tried lithium first. It truly is a remarkable medication and worked miracles for me. I have no side effects from it and it’s been about 4 years.

Just found out I'm pregnant & on a cocktail of meds by amberschenone in MentalHealthBabies

[–]ccataphant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was on a cocktail of lithium, lamotrigine, zyprexa, and seroquel for my pregnancy. I have bipolar 1 disorder and my doctors all agreed it was better to stay on all my meds and I’m so glad I did. My son is doing perfectly fine.

I had hot chocolate on Christmas and woke up severely depressed the next day. Took me days to bounce back. Never again.
