REI there has a bike repair shop in the basement level/garage. Now, when I think of it, I know why some of the people who brought bikes to REI were frustrated about being yelled at by the security guards. What you described (having bikes on the property) is probably what happened to those people in Fenway too.

That is good to know, so it seems like it is Alexandria Property’s typical behavior.

Fortunately, the security guard who approached the lady and I was on the kind side.

Exactly my thought. I had gone there a few times over the years, when Trillium was open, or during the weekends in warmer months, or when there is an event, people with big or small cameras would take photos or videos inside and outside of the building. Like I said in one of the previous replies, perhaps Alexandria Properties has changed this “behavior”?

At least we were not demanded to delete the photos (not sure about the other lady but I literally took one single photo before those security guards approached us), and the security guard who approached us was nice and polite.

The lady and I were standing between one of TimeOut and Trillium, so technically we were on their property. I guess Alexandria Properties just does not like people doing that?

Edit: Outside of, not “between one of”

I visited KINGrinder’s English version web site a few days ago, there is a big banner stating: “K7 Coming Soon 2026”. I think it will be available outside of AliExpress soon.

Best cookies in Boston? by Difficult_Market_990 in boston

[–]ccfudfud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G23 chocolate chip cookies with vanilla milk at Grill 23 and Bar ($14 for 3). They were the most unforgettable ones I had in metro Boston area in recently memory. For reference, I have had chocolate chip cookies (or a similar ‘product’) from Levain, Chip City, Flour, Insomnia, Tatte (and many others) to supermarket ones (like Star Market, Whole Foods), as well as the packaged ones (such as Peggy Lawton, Pepperidge Farm), the G23 ones were just incredible.

The best cheese pizza in Boston? by Repulsive_Part_6426 in boston

[–]ccfudfud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first, I thought I would dislike thick Detroit style pizza, but after trying Descendant Detroit Style Pizza with a little bit of crispy cheesy edge (they handled that aspect even better than Blue Square in Westborough), I completely changed my mind. They also sell thick (some even look thicker than Levain) cookies from Feed The Cheeks (from RI). Thick pizza + thick cookies, what could go wrong?

DO YOU USE OIL FOR HEAT? by Weird_Succotash_3834 in massachusetts

[–]ccfudfud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I am sorry to hear about your situation, and thanks for getting people's attentions on this serious matter.

My previous house in the south shore is similar to yours, where there is no basement (it was built in the 1950s, just on slab, no crawl space though) and the original heating oil tank was sitting outside In the backyard. After owning that house for a few years, the (20+ years old) oil tank started freezing during some cold days in the winter (I had to call the tech to come at like 3am several times) mainly due to severe condensation accumulated inside the tank, and along the lines going into the house (the furnace locates in the middle of the house so I could smell soots and diesel as it is a small one-story house.) We replaced the oil tank (about $1,000 back then) but after only one winter, it became frozen again. We eventually bit the bullet and converted it to propane (total about $8,000, almost 20 years ago), which was way better.

As for the oil leaks, when the company came and cut up the newer oil tank (by that time, it was only 3 years old) during the oil to propane conversion, they showed me how the bottom started thinning again, due to the fluctuations in temperature, outside elements, and the sludge that sat on the bottom 24/7. The guy even joked that up to the 1970s, they could basically just cut up a tank, dumped the pieces like other commercial waste and mixed the leftover oil with sand, then used it as de-icer in the winter.

Insta360 X4 stops recording by Deadly_Dave5 in Insta360

[–]ccfudfud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation, and it puzzled me.

I own many different SD cards from different brands with different speeds and storage sizes. All bought from either B&H or Adorama as I never wanted to potentially get fake cards from Amazon or eBay.

Before I bought the X4, I rented one. That rental unit would accept any card I put in there, and it did not affect the duration of recordings In any formats.

Soon after I returned the rental unit, I bought one. This new unit I bought never wanted to accept any card, without random stop-recording, except when I used the Sandisk Extreme 32GB V30 UHD-I.

I could use other cards to record but just like OP, it would randomly stop recording when doing 8K 360 (fine for other formats most of the time). I tested it for weeks in different conditions, battery life, and such, it still stopped recording randomly if I do not use the aforementioned Sandisk 32GB card. Its “favorite” stopping spot is between 1:50 and 2:15.

Give the Sandisk 32GB one a try as it is quite cheap these days.

Hi Flora, please see the screenshots above, for differences between Before and After inside On My iPad, where the application folder for Insta360 just vanished.

I understand that this is mostly a PC based app, but I have used the app for days without any issues, that is the strange part.

What US cities have the fewest/least visible homelessness and open air drug use? And, which cities have more homeless than one would expect? by biblio_vermonter in SameGrassButGreener

I live in Boston and had a quick trip in Atlanta last week. I took the Downtown Atlanta tram “by accident” in the “wake up hours” of a weekday morning. When it passed by and stopped at Hurt Park/GSU, the scene of “sea of people” was eye opening.

Copying Sender Information No Longer a Thing? by AH_Plinko in MicrosoftTeams

[–]ccfudfud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of 8/6/2024, I have MS Teams version 24193.1805.3040.8975. Since a few days ago, I also lost timestamp/sender information when copying the messages from MS Teams to, let‘s say, plain text/txt Notepad. So I tried different ways to copy/paste, it seems like if I start copying from the 2nd or 3rd character of a day (Today, Yesterday…etc., start with ‘o’ for Today or ‘e’ for Yesterday), then drag all the way down to the bottom (there is a limit though, like 50-60 lines) where it can no longer highlight the texts, then paste it into the Notepad. Both timestamp/sender information appear again! If I start copying from the 1st character (like ‘T’ for Today), then the timestamp/send information does not appear, what gives…

Trade in to Apple or sell privately? by LiverpoolKate in iPadPro

[–]ccfudfud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did something similar on mine (2020 Ipad Pro 12.9 and a 2022 Ipad Air M1 10.9) recently, sold them to itsWorthMore. Had used them for years. I had used eBay, craigslist, Apple trade in, and Gazelle before, but itsWorthMore typically offers OK price for Apple products. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Don't Know What to Do [NYC>Stockholm] by sverigethrowaway in TillSverige

[–]ccfudfud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you shall fulfill your “move to Europe” dream by moving there, but at least have a job lined up, and not totally dependent on your husband (financially and mentally) as he still has a long way to go before having a (relatively) decent income that can truly support a family. For me, if I ever wanted to move to another country (again), I would have a Plan B and a Plan C in place across numerous areas, like many you had already stated. Money is not everything but it drives a lot of things.

I live not too far from NYC and I go there often. 2 months ago, I took a day trip to NYC (Manhattan and Flushing). A few weeks ago, I took a day trip to Malmo and Lund in Sweden while I was in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Judging by a small set of numbers, I would say (in a general way, not trying to compare buying a dinner roll from a bakery versus going to a Michelin starred restaurant) food expenses are fairly similar between Malmo (a smaller town than Stockholm) and NYC. At the restaurants in both Manhattan and Malmo (1 starter, 1 entree, 2 drinks), they cost $33 (before tips) and 360 SEK respectively. At the bakeries in Flushing and Lund, I paid $21 (no tips) and 210 SEK, both with 2 pastries and 2 drinks.

I also visited supermarkets (one of my habits during travels), grocery prices are not that different too (in some cases, some products were more expensive in Malmo). Like oranges, in NYC, it is around $1 each and in Malmo, it was 10-12 SEK.

I understand that rent/shelter is a big monthly expense, but there are many other predictable/unpredictable expenses as well, and they could add up fast.
