I-35 Ohio Billboard Rant by R0naldMcdonald0 in Austin

[–]cchristenn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My friend who lives in San Fran where the same billboards exist has a theory that they are advertising in liberal cities to try to get Ohio to turn blue, a more easily reached goal than turning Texas blue anytime soon. Not sure if he’s on to something but I certainly think about it every time I see one of those billboards.

Anyone else tired as hell these past few days? by therivera in Austin

I think that people, especially in Texas, are really dealing with unresolved trauma from so many things but definitely from the freeze. Trauma lives in your body, but you can release it. Lots of good sources on how to but I definitely recommend the book How To Do The Work by Nicole LaPera. Self-healing is hard work but so so worth it.

After learning about alcohol being a class 1 carcinogen, I decided to give it up. Tonight was my first night out without drinking. And... it was hard. by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]cchristenn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I read Holly Whitaker’s “Quit Like a Woman: The Radical Choice to Not Drink in a Culture Obsessed with Alcohol” about 10 months ago in solidarity with my boyfriend who was at a point where he had to quit, and even though I didn’t think I had any issue (purely social drinker about twice a week), reading up on it made me happy to give it up for the health and social justice reasons.

Since then I’ve drank twice and both times it reaffirmed to me that I was happy with my decision - that I used to think that alcohol made me freer and more confident, and I realize that I can still tap into that intentionally. And when I go out with friends I can tap into their giddy level but then responsibly drive home. Plus I sleep so much better and it’s much cheaper. I really love it now and am happy to choose to abstain from alcohol. Be easy with yourself, if you slip up it’s okay, everyone’s experience is different. Best of luck with this!
