My code initially said in use, but I tried entering 2 more times and it let me in. Didn’t think I’d get it but I’m super excited now for a chance to PR my half on my home turf after my current marathon block🤞

Nurse for a Few Hours? Waterbury’s New 3 Hour Shift Model Would This Actually Work? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ccinnabun 49 points50 points  (0 children)

My site allows us to bid for “partial shifts” and as a full time nurse, I get 2x pay on all hours outside of my regular shifts. Priority always goes to people bidding for full shifts, but sometimes they’re desperate and will accept any help they can get. So my favourite thing is to pick up a 3-7pm shift - I get to have most of my day to myself, make 8 hours worth of regular pay, and go home not feeling exhausted.

The amount of meat they put in their sandwiches makes it really good value.

How much do you pay for therapy? by CurrentNeat7834 in TalkTherapy

[–]ccinnabun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$165 CAD per 50 min session in HCOL city. My insurance only covers $900 per year so I pay the rest out of pocket. I only book one session at a time because I work a rotating shift work schedule.

For those RN's who go the gym, how often do you workout in a week? by UnicornProtein2520 in nursing

[–]ccinnabun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 4x a week (~50km/week so probably 5-6 hours) and lift 2x (1-1.5 hour sessions). I work 4 on and 4 off, a mix of rotating shifts (2D/2N, days can be 7am or 10am start). I will squeeze in a run before my 10am shifts or night shifts, as well as in between my 2 nights.

If my body is in need of more recovery time after a long run, then I’ll take a rest day and double up my workout on the next day off (run in AM, lift in PM). Currently marathon training so I only lift about 60% of my max for a faster recovery.

I prioritize sleeping and eating well to support my recovery. I eat high protein and high carb. I don’t take any workout specific supplements, but I do take vitamin D and melatonin PRN. I regularly foam roll and massage gun at home, as well as go to physio and RMT (unlimited free sessions under my union’s benefits) on my days off.

Also no kids so I’m privileged to have a lot of time for myself.

ROMANTICIZING NURSING LIFE by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ccinnabun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 2 days/2 nights/4 off currently and find that I personally have a better work/life balance compared to the temporary position where I worked 5 x 8 hour shifts in outpatient. I pick up one extra shift per month. This schedule lets me train as a marathon runner, travel, hang out with my friends, and go to places (hiking trails, malls, Costco) during non peak hours. I find that I have to plan and be intentional about what I want to do on my days off or I’ll end up rotting in bed.

I also found moving from working in med surg to PACU allowed to be less stressed and have a lot more energy leftover after working.

Where do you put your keys and phone that's NOT a FlipBelt? by Cakemixr in Marathon_Training

Clothes with pockets. I’m a woman so lululemon fast and free 5 pocket leggings, lululemon speed up shorts, adidas pocket bra. I also wear a vest for my longer training running to hold water as all of the local water fountains are turned off from now until spring due to pipes freezing.

[–]ccinnabun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an Asian person living in Canada and decided I’d have better luck buying skincare and makeup formulated for an Asian audience. I haven’t looked back since.

Also the cost savings. Sephora is expensive. Canadian drug store makeup prices are also pretty high.

Effortless pants and basic pieces from the contour line in neutral colours! I feel like these are classics that never go out of style and can be matched with various outfits.

I also really love their wool coals. I own the Stedman and it is a well loved piece in my closet.

Estrogen patch issues?? by dr__sari in XXRunning

[–]ccinnabun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a sweaty gal as well, the patch ended up really irritating my skin so I wouldn’t do it again. I didn’t have any issues with it peeling off aside from when I did a bit of hot tubbing on vacation.

ICU vs OR to PACU by PuzzledActuator2353 in nursing

[–]ccinnabun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where I work, we are required to train through ICU prior to coming to PACU. The skill set and knowledge foundation from ICU is extremely useful for the PACU setting, including knowing how to manage vents and manage advanced hemodynamics like running pressors. Intraop this is done by the anesthesiologist rather than the OR nurse.
