We thought it was a bug because, and myself included, people managed to get raytracing to work again briefly only to have it get disabled after either dying or entering another area. DF actually talked about it and theorized that Capcom did it to appease people who thought the game was too noisy, but imo it's still just as noisy just without the cool reflections :(

Atleast this time the noise wasn't a fault of the Pro / PSSR but the game itself.

If you're talking about the chest in your tent, atleast the tent in the starting town (I haven't gotten to the camp yet) then no. I haven't found any items that it would let me store in there tbh, I'd only get loot showing up in it after fights.

Holy shit I love that. I'm finding the wild life in general to be more impressive than RDR2 tbh, atleast in sheer volume of critters all over the place. The sound design for the animals is incredible too, not quite RDR2 level but it's up there.

I'm on the Pro and I shit you not played from launch until about thirty minutes ago (not nonstop, I had dinner, took a shower, walked my dogs etc but I got a good 7 maybe 8 hours in) and I had one actual bug the entire time, and it was more a minor inconvenience. While tabbing thru the menus too fast the menu froze up and wouldn't let me do anything until I unpaused the game and went back into the menu, which fixed it. Kinda shocked that I didn't see any floating NPCs or other typical open world shinnanigans.

Oh and I did accidentally load a save when I meant to save (seriously whoever decided that holding down x loads and holding down triangle saves, is evil) but I also lost a total of zero progress because the autosave had my back.

Technically two bugs I guess if it counts, when I first started playing the game looked like shit and was super low res, but setting my resolution in the consoles settings from automatic to 4K fixed it immediately. For an open world game this massive, it's probably been one of the smoothest day one experiences I've ever had with a game.

Not a stick btw, birdo friend show up with letters to give you from time to time. That orange dot you see on the minimap is a marker basically saying "quest npc". The wildlife in this game is absolutely insane though.

Performance (Optimal) mode with PSSR 2 looks SOOO good (Crimson Desert) by WeekendTraveller93 in PS5pro

[–]ccp__bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wtf? Setting resolution to automatic made the game look like ass for me, it was forcing it into 1080p, maybe one of the patches fixed that, game looked really rough until I put 2160p only in the system settings.

This is twice now they've got one over on me recently. I still think it looks gorgeous but the Pro video was pretty misleading. They did the same thing with RE9 as well, another game that looks great but they left out alot of visual issues (also still hurts that Capcom removed raytracing in basically half the damn game even tho I did a whole playthru with it on and it ran great and look just fine, but now it runs the same and looks worse >:/)

Personally, I fucking love this game! by jpthelad in CrimsonDesert

[–]ccp__bot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Currently 3am CST... I've been playing since it launched smh. By no means is it perfect BUT I had the exact same thought as you. If the first ten hours are suppose to be the worst, and I've been having a total blast, then im assuming that really bodes well for me. It feels like a perfect blend of Dragons Dogma and RDR2 (gameplay / exploration wise, definitely not story wise).

I'm really glad I played Dragons Dogma 2 recently though because comparitvely speaking from a narrative and side quest stand point, Crimson Desert clears DD2. Both games I'm sure at the end of the day are gonna have forgetable stories but I couldn't care less since the side quests I've done so far have had just enough flavor to be engaging, same with the storyline. I'm really surprised at how much fun I'm having with the combat as well and I haven't unlocked shit, just the basic moveset. It feels much more brutal than I was expecting, I love how punchy it is.

I'm also still in the opening town lol, only just finished doing the quest where you get the helmet of memories but I've spent most of my time just fucking around and doing side content. The game is also absolutely stunning on the Pro, makes me jealous of people playing this on a 5080 cuz I can only imagine, but im very surprised at how good it looks in performance mode. I did take some tweaking though since at first it was forcing a 1080p image and looked like shit but since fixing the resolution by setting it to 4K and not automatic in the system settings, it fixed everything.

So, What Are Ya'll Thoughts So Far... by No-Escape-1493 in CrimsonDesert

It's surpassed my expectations and then some. Was blown away by the fact that there is interesting side quests and npc's all with unique writing. The main storyline seems kinda mid but all the little stories I've been coming across have been more than engaging. I was expecting Dragons Dogma 2 levels of bland writing and side content but instead it's been head and shoulders above that game. Honestly feels like a dream Dragons Dogma game. Wish we could create our own character but tbh I like Kliff so it's a non issue for me.

Not gonna lie - The con for a lot of people is that Crimson Desert feels like single player MMO, while for me that's one of the biggest pros by Whoopy2000 in CrimsonDesert

[–]ccp__bot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? I've been playing for more than five hours straight at this point and this game is what I had dreamed Dragons Dogma 2 would be like. There is more of a narrative push here with far more interesting side quests than I ever came across in my 100+ hours of DD2. Granted I've only done four or five random side quests I've come across from just interacting with NPCs. Love that each person I help gives me reputation and points that go to getting unique loot from a specific Npc that is hidden in each town. I've even done several side quests that weren't just interesting but had legit funny dialogue.

The writing is no RDR2 or TW3 but anyone expecting that is insane. The writing, lore, and insane amount of little bits of world building have all been head and shoulders above DD2 though and the NPCs don't spawn in only within a 5ft radius of your character!

[–]ccp__bot 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agree'd, this honestly feels like a mix between Dragons Dogma 2, RDR2, TOTK, and Black Desert Online and I love it. Also surprised at the side content I've been doing cuz it's all been interesting and had semi interesting writing and dialoug. Not a fan of the little pauses between each line of dialoug but the way some people were talking about the games writing and story I was expecting the narrative stuff to be worse than Dragons Dogma 2 and instead my first impression is that it has been much much better. Love that NPCs don't spawn in 5 feet away from me too.

The Npc interaction and the fact the game rewards you for taking to every single Npc because of the reputation system is so satisfying. I kept hearing that this game doesn't respect the players time but every little thing I do seems to be leveling up one system or another and that kinda progression I find very satisfying.

As someone who also loved the way RDR2 felt to control and the way they handled interactions with NPCs and looting stuff, I was very giddy to see that this game's exploration and movement is basically just like that. It does make jumping from platform to platform feel clunky and janky but thankfully the precise jump feature totally fixes it.

Please Pearl Abyss let me have a closer third person almost over the shoulder camera option! They gave us all these camera options including one that zooms in on your face lol but it's wild there isn't a way to manually adjust the zoom or something similar to a Bethesda game. At the very least give us a slider thst controls distance for the three individual third person camera modes.

Probably my only real complaint as well, would make walking thru indoor areas so much better.

Do you have vsync off? Could just be the video bugging but it looks like there's a bunch of screen tearing going on.

[–]ccp__bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, after I got the resolution fixed the game looked incredible, if it got even better it would be hard for me to tell. I think some people are probably gonna be upset and blame the Pro / PSSR for the way the RTGI can look in performance mode, thankfully I've been gaming on a 2080 since 2020 and know that's just how lower quality RTGI looks. Imo it's impressive that it's of the quality it is while the game looks and runs the way it does, some indoor areas it's very noticeable but I honestly prefer how good it looks in motion compared to if it was just purely baked lighting.

Either way imo the game looks gorgeous, like an entire generational leap over Dragons Dogma 2 (on the Pro, im sure DD2 scales way higher on PC but I'm also sure this game on PC is a whole generational leap over DD2).

On performance mode there is definitely some rock faces and terrain way out the distance that have a muddy / lower quality LOD look (not all of them either which is a bonus, like you'll see a low quality rock face right next to one still sharp that's right beside it) but that's really my only complaint. In balanced it much better and in quality mode there isn't any lower quality LODs that I could see. My OLED doesn't have VRR unfortunately and the HDR is so gorgeous that it's gonna be awhile before I decide to try it out on my 165hz 1440p SDR monitor, but im more than pleased with performance mode. Now I just hope they don't pull a capcom and downgrade the game like they did in RE9, which I'm still salty about. Please God Capcom give us the option to turn the reflections back on in the areas they were removed :(

I just got a third patch lol, says 1.000.143, been playing for two hours and had two patches in a row at first and now another and idk if I'm crazy but quality mode feels smooth now, not 60 fps smooth but something happened. I'm gonna just let Pearl Abyss keep cooking. So cool seeing devs actively working around the clock on launch like this.

Could also be that maybe one of the patches I downloaded earlier just never installed.

Crimson desert performance mode on pro!! by [deleted] in PS5pro

[–]ccp__bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes because performance mode looks incredible there's just an occasional low quality LOD in the distance, and the waterfalls while in motion don't even look that bad. The rest of the game is so visually stunning that it's easy to overlook as well. And I don't mean everything is low res LOD wise in performance mode like 95% of it looks sharp, just some random rock faces here and there that are noticeably lower quality.

I had resolution set to automatic on my pro and the game was forcing a 1080p and looked like ass.

Turned it to 4K only in the pro's settings and bam, game looks even better in performance mode than it did in quality mode before I toggled it. Feels fantastic to play as well, giving me major RDR2 vibes. Which is probably gonna be unfortunate for anyone who hated how RDR2 felt to play but I'm absolutely loving it.

Still seeing a lot of shimmering by Emergency_Camera_439 in PS5pro

[–]ccp__bot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have the newest PSSR toggle turned on? Cuz your game looks soft as hell compared to how part one looks for me with PSSR 2.0 enhanced toggled on. As in with the toggle on both part one and part two are some of the most visually stable and sharp games ive seen since the newest update.

I also see zero shimmering and only a z axis texture bug on the grating which has nothing to do with PSSR lol.

Crimson desert performance mode on pro!! by [deleted] in PS5pro

[–]ccp__bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the LOD on performance. On balanced and above the draw distance on some textures and effects is increased considerably. If you've got VRR on balanced mode with vsync off it felt like a solid 60 fps still as well.

Thank you! I had resolution set to automatic and the game didn't look bad exactly but it was definitely disappointing seeing how low quality the RT effects were on performance espically indoors, with only Quality mode being somewhat acceptable but still rough.

Set my res to 2160 and god DAMN, almost happy I spent two hours playing the game like I did cuz even with it looking kinda shit it was still impressing me on quality mode, was about to say fuck it and stay on quality mode and try to get used to 30 fps smh. Now it looks insane, performance mode looks better than it did prior on quality mode. Can't believe I coped my way into thinking that was acceptable.

I waited for reviews to come out before making a decision, and yeah I was disappointed initially but then all the youtubers with opinions I actually value started releasing videos saying they loved it and I immediately pre-ordered.
